Signature

[edit]

I was looking at a formatting problem at Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Rollback, and I think it is caused by your signature - it starts with a "div" and a "font", and ends with "/div" and "/div". This is going to cause formatting problems on every page that you sign. I have fixed it.

Please also look at Wikipedia:Signatures. Your signature contravenes the instructions in the "Transclusion of templates" section on that page. This needs fixing for the reasons explained there. -- John of Reading (talk) 20:02, 12 October 2011 (UTC) revised 06:33, 13 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your goals

[edit]

Your userpage says "I am trying to get my edit-count larger so I can try to get a higher level of rights."

That's not how it works, Tom. You're assigned higher levels of rights on the basis that you're considered to need them, and to show that you can be trusted with them. Simply 'having a high edit-count' is not a criterion. DS (talk) 14:00, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

User:DragonflySixtyseven, most levels of rights do require a certain number of edits, because last time I saw Administrator was 2500+.
Here's an analogy. To be eligible to be President of the United States, you must be at least 35 years old. But being 35 doesn't mean you have a significantly increased chance of becoming President, and carefully counting how many days left until your 35th birthday so you can get elected... that's just stupid. Yes, the analogy is flawed - "President of the United States" is much more important than "Wikipedia admin", for one thing, and you can't artificially increase your age the way you can increase your edit count. But I hope you get the point. Don't edit to increase your edit count. Edit because it needs to be done. Edit because it bothers you that a detail is wrong or that a sentence is badly worded. Edit because you see a way that a page can be made better. That's the only real point. DS (talk) 18:04, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
