If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Tom Bates 101 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. —Largo Plazo (talk) 16:27, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Creating autobiographies

[edit]

Information icon Please do not write or add to an article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. —Largo Plazo (talk) 16:29, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The article's been deleted, but here's what I replied on its talk page before I realized it:
Hi. This being an encyclopedia, the criteria for inclusion are stronger than they will be in, say, IMDB. Please see WP:GNG and WP:NACTOR for, respectively, the general guidelines on notability required for inclusion in Wikipedia and guidelines specific to actors. In particular, notability, as defined on Wikipedia, doesn't flow from roles that you play. Playing Nelson Mandela or Adolf Hitler, notable themselves, isn't deemed to confer notability on the actor. If, however, the actor attracts significant coverage of the role in multiple reliable sources that are independent of the actor and the productions, that's a different story. Then the actor may meet the general guidelines.
Actors aren't likely to be known for roles in programs that haven't even been shown yet.
Please note what I related to you earlier about people being strongly discouraged from writing about themselves here. —Largo Plazo (talk) 16:51, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion

[edit]

This page should not be speedily deleted because... (your reason here) --TomBates101 (talk) 17:49, 1 April 2016 (UTC) Now you are trying to delete my user page??! Why?! Because I am trying to post source about an actor portraying one of America's most notorious stalkers..?! How dare you. I have found no less than a dozen actors with Wikipedia pages that are not famous in any way. Are there not more important actual articles to review for you than to bully me and my user page? sheesh.[reply]

Maybe those articles qualify for deletion as well. You might want to take a look at WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. On several occasions people have pointed out other articles that they felt the article they'd written was comparable to—and I wound up submitting those articles for deletion as well. On other occasions, there were clear reasons why the other articles, in contrast to the article at hand, did qualify for inclusion.
"Why?! Because I am trying to post source about an actor portraying one of America's most notorious stalkers..?!" I already covered that, twice now, and I've pointed you to the applicable guidelines.
"How dare you." Well ... I'm not actually "daring". Wikipedia provides for exactly the sort of role I'm playing here, and I patrol Wikipedia in this way all the time. Wikipedia has policies and guidelines, and I'm one of a good-sized group of people who help out with applying them.
Note that this is an encyclopedia, not a web host, blog, Facebook, LinkedIn, or other sort of site where people have free rein to post about themselves and things with which they are personally associated. For user page guidelines, see WP:User page. —Largo Plazo (talk) 17:56, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
