Bot operator's barnstar

[edit]
Bot Operator's Barnstar
Zippybonzo and I would like to award this to you, for updating the bot to count redirects, as well as altering the code to consider the patrol log (in addition to the curation log), during the NPP May 2023 Redirect backlog drive. Thank you. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:14, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, @MPGuy2824 and @Zippybonzo! It's much appreciated. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 12:26, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

biography of a new web application framework

[edit]

Dear mentor, i want to write a biography about my new upcoming framework. im looking foward to a few guidelines i need to achieve this. Also point me towards the step by step process of creating such article. G9857931 (talk) 10:43, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@G9857931, welcome to Wikipedia! If you would like to write a new article, you can find some guidelines for doing so here. It seems that you may have a conflict of interest with the topic, though; I would strongly suggest you also read these additional guidelines for editing with a conflict of interest. Please let me know if you have any further questions! Tol (talk | contribs) @ 14:04, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from DamianoBrigo2 (13:06, 21 May 2023)

[edit]

Hello Tol, I am grateful for any feedback you could give me as an experienced Editor and Mentor.

  1. To get started with something I'm very familiar with, I took a first stab at the article on stochastic differential equations, trying to help. I work on the topic as an academic and I updated it, adding the requested inline references to remove the banner that was pointing out the need for more inline references, and adding further material that I considered essential and saw missing. If by any chance this is within your range of interests I would welcome any feedback.
  2. Are we supposed to work only on pages on which we are experts or can we also do edits on other pages if we see something we know by chance that is not correct or missing, even if we are not experts in that area?
  3. The other point I would like to ask you is about the page on myself. It was created years ago with some mistakes and I reduced it and corrected the mistakes in the far past. Then in 2014 I did some minor edits to update it. Now it is definitely out of date again and I requested an edit in the talk page of Damiano Brigo but I saw there are 119 requests pending and I realize this might take a while. I proposed the edit myself, already done, in the talk page, to minimize the work of the Editor as they would have a ready template to modify. I'd like the feedback of an experienced Editor on the way I framed the request, so if you could take a look at the talk page and tell me if the request format is ok (without entering the edit itself, just the format) it would be helpful.
  4. Final question, do you know whether the edit requests are done first come first served or whether they are served randomly depending on availability of the relevant editors?

Thank you in advance for your time and feedback, and glad to have you as a mentor. --DamianoBrigo2 (talk) 13:06, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, DamianoBrigo2; thanks for the questions!
  1. I only have fairly introductory knowledge on differential equations, and don't know much at all about stochastic processes, but your edits appear quite good! The only thing that I would recommend is that you use citation templates (in your case, probably primarily Template:Cite book and Template:Cite journal) to format your references, as they allow for citations to be formatted uniformly and add metadata for computers to parse the citations.
  2. Anyone can edit in any subject area! If you see something missing, feel free to add it (just make sure it's cited).
  3. For the format of the edit request, I think you've made it very clear what you're requesting, but I would recommend against using actual section headers (because this creates new talk page sections), while making sure to place your edit request in a new section. I'll fix the format of the request and tidy up the talk page.
  4. It's the latter — edit request response times are a very mixed bag, because editors answer them based on availability and interests. Especially for COI edit requests, they can often remain unanswered for a quite long time.

Thank you very much, Tol, very helpful and much appreciated. DamianoBrigo2 (talk) 06:07, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome! Tol (talk | contribs) @ 19:20, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Tol. sorry for the further question, a doubt I have. I noticed a couple improvements I could do to my edit request under COI in the talk page you kindly reorganized and tidied up for me. My doubt is this: if I edit my original request, editing two minor details in the proposed edited page in the Talk page and adding perhaps one reference, will this push me to the bottom of the list of COI edit requests or will I maintain my position in the list? Thank you. DamianoBrigo2 (talk) 15:19, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, @DamianoBrigo2! You can edit the request without any penalty; just don't remove the {{request edit}} template at the top. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 21:18, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Tol, much appreciated. DamianoBrigo2 (talk) 05:35, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Thepencardiologist (23:41, 11 June 2023)

[edit]

What are the major sub -topics that can be featured in an article based on content creation? --Thepencardiologist (talk) 23:41, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Thepencardiologist, welcome to Wikipedia! I'm not sure exactly what you're referring to — could you please provide some more context? Tol (talk | contribs) @ 21:00, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023

[edit]

Hello Tol/Archives/2023,

New Page Review queue April to June 2023

Backlog

Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.

Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.

Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.

You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.

Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

Question from Mili Radumilo (15:39, 19 June 2023)

[edit]

Hi! I think I published a page for "Philip Waley" from the Sandbox. Can you please guide me through the next steps?

Thank you! --Mili Radumilo (talk) 15:39, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, @Mili Radumilo, and welcome to Wikipedia! The draft you submitted, Draft:Philip Waley, was declined, as the draft does not show how the subject is notable. In addition, there are some issues with neutrality. You can read the reviewer's comments, and instructions on how to resubmit the draft after editing it to resolve these issues, at the top of the draft. TolBot

[edit]

Not that I'm planning a backlog drive, but I'm curious that if I needed to plan a combined one for patrolling articles and redirects, would TolBot be able to calculate them as a combined leaderboard? Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 06:23, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Zippybonzo: Currently, the code is set up to only do one or the other, but the adjustments needed to do both would be minimal. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 19:06, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not going to ask that of you now, I was just wondering whether it was possible without making you have to rewrite the bot, as I feel a backlog drive will be needed relatively soon.... Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 19:10, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Zippybonzo: Got it. It would probably require changing about 5 lines; it wouldn't be an inconvenience at all. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 19:15, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I'll let you know if I need that doing. I think there may be a mop in your future. Thank you, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 19:25, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Zippybonzo: Alright; no problem! I'd be reluctant to take on the mop, but I appreciate your comment. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 21:06, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Akonasu1 (02:10, 29 June 2023)

[edit]

Can I edit my username? --Akonasu1 (talk) 02:10, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @Akonasu1 Yes you can, you can go to Special:GlobalRenameRequest and follow the instructions there. Thanks, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 06:46, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
