Welcome

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Take a look at the welcome page. To stay in Wikipedia, an article has to be about something notable, that is, of general interest. Click on Notability for an explanation of what that means, and on Notability (music) for more detail. Also, it must give independently verifiable sources. Articles that don't meet these requirements are likely to be deleted.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Antiques rogue show requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. JohnCD (talk) 15:37, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, please do not add promotional material to articles or other Wikipedia pages, as you did to Antiques rogue show. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" is strongly discouraged. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Toddst1 (talk) 22:45, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why your article was deleted

[edit]

I'm afraid Wikipedia is not very good at explaining in advance what it is and what it isn't - we are anxious not to put people off having a go, and that's good, but the problem is that people are disappointed after they come here thinking this is a place to get publicity for themselves, their bands, their companies or (in your case) their friends' good cause.

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and in order to be an encyclopedia rather than a sort of Myspace where people can write about anything, it has standards for what subjects are suitable for articles: they must be notable which is not a subjective opinion - it basically means that other people, independent of the subject, have thought them important or interesting enough to write about. This is all explained in more detail in the Welcome paragraph at the top of this page, and in the links from it. You can put the article in again if you think you can demonstrate notability, but unless you can confirm it from reliable independent sources the article is likely to be deleted again.
