Talk:ROC
I didn't know my previous IP was block because I'm not behind a static IP address. I thought you were only questioning about Chipmunkdavis' comment. I didn't know I have effectively got around a block. I didn't mean it and please don't regard this as an intentional evasion. On the other hand, since you have taken a strong position towards moving comments, would you please take a look at Talk:Republic of China? There was only one single section for the votes. Users like Eraserhead1 later broke it down into three subsections, Support, Oppose, and Others. As a result the votes were moved around and the remarks that refer to earlier votes are broken. I have posted a note to request the closing admins to take this into consideration. Would you enforce the same standard to those users who moved the votes around? Thanks in advance. Meanwhile, may I know if it was a green light to HiLo48's foul languages and personal attacks? Will there be any action taken against such incivility? 202.189.98.134 (talk) 15:36, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
- Surreal...simply surreal. Intentional evasion...unintentional evasion; I don't see the distinction. You were told your actions were disruptive and, instead of altering your behavior, you continued. I cannot accept that you have the level of difficulty with the English language that you are exhibiting. There must be a different answer. Fortunately, I am not obsessed with discovering the answer. I'll have some lunch and watch some TV... Tiderolls 17:32, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
- There have been quite a few disruptive IP addresses (many of whom are likely this one person) at the ROC talk page over the last several months I've been watching it (and probably longer), and many of them have been blocked. This person seems intimately familiar with Wikipedia policies and practices, and has been frustrating the many good faith editors on that talk page (HiLo is the one who usually verbalizes this frustration..). Due to the relative ease of obtaining a new IP address, blocking has no effect; so Wikipedia appears to be powerless to stop the disruption.. sigh. Mlm42 (talk) 18:24, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
- It's my understanding that courtesy of this particular editor, a soft range block has been put in place for almost all of the university's 202.189.98 range. Wikipedia is perhaps not entirely powerless to stop the disruption, though it's a shame that this editor's crusade will now affect every other student at the university unless they register an account. It's plainly clear that he knows what he's doing and that he knows what he's doing is wrong. – NULL ‹talk›

Re: Reviewer Permission
Dear Tide rolls;
I have a rather strange request for you I really can not get answered out in the open. A while back I was a well respected editor of the en-Wikipedia, when my account was compromised and was used over time to tarnish the quality of the project and generally be seen as a sleeper vandal. During that time, I had earned the privilege of the role "Reviewer". Some years later, I am coming back and once again desire to be nothing but a positive contributor. I am active in the RecentPages vandal fighting. However, I see the proposal at WP:Reviewer failed and nobody is being considered to be granted upon the title. I was wondering, if you would not mind, since
- a) No actual permission is granted with the flag, and
- b) The practice is no longer regulated,
if, for sentiments sake, you could please reinstate me as a reviewer. I have heard all about why this is not necessary, but if you could please consider it for my sake, I would be greatly and forever appreciative. Thank you for your time.
Best Regards; —An Illusive Man— (Contact) 00:15, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- Hi, AIM. I am hesitant to change user rights that have no utility. This is no comment on you or your contributions, but until Pending Changes is reconsidered reviewer flags are of no use. Regards Tiderolls 05:11, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

I'm really upset right now
Hello, I really need your help. I am angry with User:Acps110 for leaving me a rude message. I am no going out of my way to vandalize any New York City Subway articles as well as Wikipedia. B service does operate during weekdays but it doesn't operate full time like most of the other trains. C train operates during the daytime hours only and the Z train operates during rush hours, peak direction on weekdays. I guess I made some mistakes, I was trying to work on a way to see if some other trains do not operate full time like the B train before being rudely insulted by that stubborn unhelpful user Acps110 who accuses me of making everything up whatever edits I made to the articles. And I told him that just because you don't agree with someone and think they're up to no good does not make me a vandalizes. This is the second time that user Acps makes degrading remarks on me just for trying to help improve the articles! I understand that I made a mistake and I should have look through first, but I am no always wrong and I am not trying to do any damage to Wikipedia as Acps is accusing me for. 68.194.58.106 (talk) 20:56, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- (sorry for interjecting here) I'm not sure you are in a position to complain about rude messages when you leave ones like these for the person you are complaining about. You both need to calm it down. QU TalkQu 21:43, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- Hello, 68.194.58.106 (I really detest addressing people as numbers, please consider creating an account). The post that User:QuiteUnusual refers to is quite unacceptable. I understand frustration can lead one to act out of character, but if you expect to continue to edit here you will have find another way to handle these situations. I will not be injecting myself into the content disputes that are the basis of the friction between you and User:Acps110. I will try to help by explaining how dispute resolution is conducted here. The first stage is article talk page discussion. I know you are aware of this as you have shown a willingness to engage on article talk pages. If talk page participation does not address issues with article content or the good faith editing of a particular editor, the next step is to bring other editors into the discussion. There are a few different ways to accomplish this and I can direct you to them if you are interested. Regards Tiderolls 22:55, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- I followed a trail and found this message. Just FYI, the person behind that IP has been making edits like that for a couple of years now, and after reading a message from another editor on my talk today, I blocked the IP for evasion. I've got details, if you're interested, but I figured a quick note was in order. Cheers —DoRD (talk) 00:05, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

Unblocking user
Hi TR, I'm unblocking User:Mwilli56 based on the appeal request here - it seems more of a WP:BITE than anything else. As far as I can tell the user was just trying to create a page. Whether or not it's a page meeting notability criteria is a separate issue, but I don't think there was any intent for harm here, so I'm going to refer him to WP:AFC instead. German language alphabet eszett
Why are YOU changing MY edit?
I have previously read MS and NC regarding referenced and no consensus had been arrived at, nor any decision made, although i detected a definite trend in articles showed preference for "ss" just from browsing. That is as should be since eszett is not part of ENGLISH ALPHABET, and literally 99.9% of all English speakers have no idea that it represents untranliterated "ss".
I really doubt MS and NC now sanction eszett over "ss" but if they do you are the knowledgable editor and it would be easier for you to copy and paste citaion for you case than for me to plow through them (again).
You know who Gauss was, right? Hess? Several Strausses, and the list goes on and on. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.35.96.144 (talk) 23:34, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
- See WP:UEIA "When the native name is written in a non-Latin alphabet this representation should be included along with Latin alphabet transliteration." Tiderolls 23:43, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
"Should be", not "must be" and in any case apply only to article the introductory sentence but every other use should be "ss" as per article on the mathematitian Gauss. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.35.96.144 (talk) 23:57, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
- That's one interpretation. However, the Gauss comparison doesn't really apply as the eszett is not used in the article title. If you are in favor of an article move, there are processes in place to accommodate you. Tiderolls 00:02, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
The Gauss comparison does apply. Eszett should never be used in article titles because almost no English speakers would have any idea what the transliteration is. It should be used, as in the Gauss and numerous other analagous articles, only parenthetically in the in the introductory sentence. There is no need to it elswhere in an English encyclopedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.35.96.144 (talk) 00:46, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
- Thus my directing you to the MOS and Naming conventions. A consensus has been reached regarding this issue that does not match your opinion. Consensus is a dynamic entity and you are welcome to approach other editors at those venues with your view. However, unilaterally making the changes you have been against the accepted guidelines and convention could be construed as disruptive. I would suggest more discussion on your part and re-reading the guidelines; there is apparently some misunderstanding on your part. Tiderolls 00:54, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

I'm sorry to bother you, but I thought I should let an administrator know about this. I would encourage you to contact the editor and make any inquiries you deem necessary. Your reversion is completely acceptable. I would suggest that in future you employ an edit summary to let any editors coming along afterwards what motivated your edit.
