Welcome!

Hello, Thomanq, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, like Iain Tyrrell Benson, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for page creation, and may soon be deleted.

You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

A tag has been placed on Iain Tyrrell Benson requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. • I have declined the speedy deletion nomination for this article, but I am not convinced that it demonstrates notability, a requirement to have a Wikipedia article, which is not a matter of subjective opinion but needs to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." As far as I can see, only one of the four references you cite actually mentions Mr. Benson, and that is a CV on the website of an employer, which would not be considered independent. There is more detail in WP:Notability (people) and WP:Notability (academics), and good general advice in the links from the Welcome paragraph above, especially WP:Your first article. Thank you -- I will work on adding the required citations.

Your submission at Articles for creation

[edit]

Thank you for submitting an article to Wikipedia. Your submission has been reviewed and has been put on hold pending clarification or improvements from you or other editors. Please take a look and respond if possible. You can find it at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Iain Benson. If there is no response within twenty-four hours the request may be declined; if this happens feel free to continue to work on the article. You can resubmit it (by adding the text {{subst:AFC submission/submit}} to the top of the article) when you believe the concerns have been addressed. Thank you. fetch·comms 23:43, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! I've made some changes but am still uncertain whether I'm in conformity with Wiki guidelines. Specifically, I've created footnotes and deleted most of the long lists involved -- I've kept one list because I think it demonstrates the global importance of Mr. Benson's work. If there is a better way to get this across, I'd love to learn about it. Thanks! 174.92.10.234 (talk) 13:04, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
