A tag has been placed on Draft:Darki Mohamed Abdellah, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Help me[edit]

Hi @Spiderone,

I am sorry to see that despite all the time I spent trying to make sure I understand how to edit a page in Wikepedia, I managed to get my first page on a speedy deletion nomination. Please, forgive my ignorance.

My goal isn't to advertise an issue but to inform on an issue that has an impact on all of us. Can you please help me work on my draft to remove whatever it was that raised a red flag for you? I don't need the draft Darki Mohamed Abdellah anymore. You can delete that one. I consolidated all my content under the page: The Case of Algerian Whistleblower Mohamed Abdellah - Terrorism and the Demise of Democracy. I hope I can still access that content. I spent a lot of time putting my thoughts down yesterday. I was up until 3 am trying to figure things out :(

I thought that decisions are only made after a page is submitted for review and I wasn't ready for the review yet. The Speedy deletion nomination came to me as a complete surprise. Now, I discovered that a page can be removed even before it goes through the review process. I definitely do need your help to do better.

I am sure you can appreciate how overwhelming it is for a new user to go through all the nested links in all the help pages. Can you please give me another chance and point me to specific sections that you had issues with. I will address all the comments.

Thanks a million for your help and sorry again for being a complete newbie on Wikipedia.

Tagging @Spiderone: so he sees it. Also closing the helpme template as that is for visibility to all users. I don't feel we can give specific advice having not seen what was on those pages. User:Sjb72 was the admin that deleted the pages. — IVORK Talk 02:38, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @Spiderone: for notifying me via email and sending me the link to this page. I could never have figured out on my own. Thanks @IVORK: for showing me how to properly tag. Between learning the source code for formatting, learning the rules for the content and learning how to ask for help, it is not easy for a newbie :( @Sjb72: please, do give me a chance to work on my page. I really want to learn how to be a good wikipedian. We can still resptore the page, right?

Thanks again! and please, do forgive my ignorance. I will try my best to learn this quick. Thisneedstostop (talk) 04:35, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The page is still here. I would read WP:YFA and WP:SOAPBOX from top to bottom before putting any more drafts or mainspace articles through the system. All articles should be written from a completely neutral view as per WP:NPOV, I appreciate that this is tricky when it's on a topic that you have strong feelings about but it is essential. As per WP:ADVOCACY, we as the community have a right to WP:G11 speedy delete any articles that are promotional either towards a product or a person or a cause or even a point of view. Thanks @Spiderone:. Yes. Got it. Can you point me to the latest version of the following page "The Case of Algerian Whistleblower Mohamed Abdellah - Terrorism and the Demise of Democracy" It's OK to delete [1] It is incorporated in the page I need. One lesson I learned from this is to only work on a sample page until the article is ready. Will go through the pointers you mentioned. Thanks again for bearing with newbies like me! Really appreciate it and really appreciate the work you are doing!

Unless you can provide evidence your article meets the requirements for Wikipedia, I won't be restoring it. You state elsewhere:

>My goal isn't to advertise an issue but to inform on an issue that has an impact on all of us.

The problem is you are describing Original Research, and Wikipedia is not the place for it. Also the entire tone of the article was not neutral, which is also an issue. Whilst tone can be edited to correct it, if the article is original research and being used as a platform to spread the word on a topic, it will be deleted. Articles like that are best for a personal blog or similar platform.
If you can demonstrate that the article you wish to write meets the requirements for Wikipedia, I will reconsider restoring it. For that it needs to be a notable topic which can cite multiple third party references (sources must also be notable; not, for example, a YouTube video). Also, you need to demonstrate you understand how to write in a neutral point of view. Until then, the article will remain deleted. Stephen! Coming... 13:05, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @Sjb72: I tried to combine multiple goals in one page as I was collecting my thoughts first. Now, with this experience, I know I need to decouple the issues first and only stick to the bigger theme that is notable in wikipedia. I will definitely do that. To help me, could you move the content of the latest page you deleted to a sample page in sandbox. I will revamp it. I just need what I already wrote down. I didn't save the draft :( A newbie on all fronts. So sorry :(. Thanks again for your help!

Article restored[edit]

I have copied the text from the deleted page; this may be found here: User:Thisneedstostop/Sandbox. Please note the conditions of restoration I have placed at the top of the page. If you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them, but be aware I won't be on Wikipedia much over the coming week. It may be best in which case to ask at the Help Desk. Stephen! Thanks a million @Sjb72: @Stephen!: I really appreciate it!

I am concerned that there has been no activity on editing User:Thisneedstostop/Sandbox. Please can you either make changes to the article, or indicate below why there is a delay and when you expect to begin. My concern is that this may be used as an opinion piece and that there may be no intention to edit it.

I will be monitoring this page and the sandbox article for activity. If there are no edits, or you have not indicated when you will be editing, I will be deleting the article on or after the 14th October 2021, and I will not be restoring it again.

If you are after assistance with the editing or have questions about what needs doing, then please post a question on my talk page, or ask at the Help Desk. Stephen! Coming... 11:51, 30 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Sjb72:, I am editing the page on google drive for now because I am afraid you will remove it. I can move the changes to sandbox but I am not ready to publish yet. I haven't removed what you didn't like yet. I am adding more facts that address some of your concerns.

You really need to be doing this on Wikipedia. If draft pages are left untouched, they will eventually be deleted. If you are working on it, it is less likely to be deleted. If you would rather work on it on Google Drive, then so be it, but could I please ask that you update the sandbox version with where you are at the moment? That way it will at least demonstrate that you are addressing the issues and not just leaving it there as an opinion piece. I accept that it probably isn't anywhere near finished yet, and I won't delete it if I can see that it is being worked on.
Another reason to show where you are at is that you can invite other editors to critique your work; you can ask them to point out what needs addressing. Stephen! Coming... 12:01, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've seen that you have updated it, and there is a big improvement. However, there are still issues that need resolving. The biggest is that there is still a lot of original research that needs correcting. If you have reliable sources for your facts about the subject, then these need to be added into the text (see Citing sources). These references will also help the article meet the Biography of Living Persons requirements, the absence of which can be enough to get an article deleted very quickly. Please note that the references such as those you've listed (such as Facebook pages and YouTube videos) are not sufficient.
Another reason to add reliable sources is that the article needs several independent sources to establish that the topic is notable. If it isn't, then no amount of editing will allow it to make it onto Wikipedia. Have a read of the guidelines for notability
Another major issue is the tone of the article - it needs to be written with a neutral point of view. When you're writing about a topic you feel passionate about, it is all too easy to allow your feelings to make it into the text. Have a read of this article, which shows a number of examples of words and phrases you need to avoid.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Stephen! Coming... 06:54, 8 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's been about a month since you last updated the draft article, and I'm interested to see how you're progressing. I'm hopeful that you've also located suitable references to demonstrate that the topic is considered notable and that you also have references to meet the Biography of Living Persons requirement. Remember, if you do not have these, the article will not be accepted, and will be deleted.
Please could you update the article, ideally including as many references as you have, and we can use these to assess whether or not the article is likely to be suitable. Stephen! Coming... 12:41, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You should be aware that under the rules of Biography of Living Persons, articles will be deleted that do not show reliable sources. There is a bit more leeway for articles in draftspace, but they are still needed. Please can you add reliable sources to the article. I am concerned that you have not addressed this issue at all. At the moment, the draft article is legible for deletion, but I have held off because you have said you are working on it. However, I cannot hold off indefinitely if you do not show that you are making improvements to allow it to be put on the main page.
I will give you two weeks from today to add reliable sources to meet the Biography of Living Persons requirement. If no suitable references have been added, then I will be nominating it for deletion under Proposed deletion of biographies of living people, after which you will have seven days before it gets deleted. You should also be aware that others may come and look before that deadline is up, and someone else might nominate it for speedy deletion, as it is full of Original Research.
If you have any questions, please ask. But please do not ignore this. It would be nice if you can get your article so it can be put on Wikipedia, but at the moment it really is looking unlikely. Stephen! Coming... 12:59, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
