Timelines

I was wondering if you are still considering doing a timeline for BBC 6 Music and for Bauer Radio, and what are your thoughts about a timeline for the World Service?

I decided not to add any further channel launches to the cable TV timeline and am still not convinced of the need for a timeline for Channel 5. Rillington (talk) 16:58, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

I still have them both in mind, but real world stuff keeps getting in the way. Not sure about Channel 5. Perhaps we need to wait a few more years before there's enough to justify an article. This is Paul (talk) 19:42, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Good point re Channel 5 as I think we're both not sure that there's enough for a timeline despite the station now being more than 20 years old. I'd say it's 50/50.

And a timeline of the BBC World Service has now been created although most of the entries concern the launch and, where applicable, the closure of the World Service language services. This is not ideal but it's a good starting point for the timeline. Rillington (talk) 15:32, 8 September 2018 (UTC)

I agree we should do that if we can, but not too sure where to look. I've just had a look on BBC Genome and they only seems to carry details of World Service programming from 31 July 1987. From August 1987 the Radio Times provided a monthly summary of World Service programmes and started providing daily listings a few years later. Rillington (talk) 17:15, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

I think that the only major commercial radio stations without a timeline are Talk Radio/Talksport and LBC. Regarding the BBC, in addition to 6 Music, there is also the BBC Asian Network, and maybe the major BBC Local Radio stations such as BBC Radio London and possibly BBC Radios Scotland, Wales/Cymru and Ulster. 1Xtra, like 6 Music, would almost entirely consist of schedule changes and presenter comings and goings. Hadn't thought of the local stations, but they could be worth a look. I remember BBC Radio London used to be quite diverse at one time, with programming for different cultures on different evenings, but looking at the schedule just now it seems to be pretty much like all the others. Similarly BBC WM used to have East in West and various other Asian themed programmes, but I guess BBC Asian Network took over all of that. BBC Wales had English and Welsh language versions (I don't know what the current situation is). So they'd all make for interesting articles. ~~

I think realistically the only BBC Local Radio station that could have a timeline created would be BBC Radio London as there isn't enough information out there on any other BBC local station to be able to justify a timeline right now and the only local or national radio station that Genome currently lists is BBC Radio London and then only from 1970 until 1981. He along with Kayamkulam Kochunni are the most popular bandits of Kerala and legends on them are part of the local folklore. Ithikkara Pakki 2

Somebody recently asked me to create an article about this person, who was a 19th Century outlaw in British India. He's not someone I'm familiar with, and because of the surname (which is very similar to a word used as a pejorative term and ethnic slur in the UK) I wasn't sure whether to take the request seriously. But I Googled the name and found that there is someone of that name from that particular period of history. I don't feel I'm familiar enough with the topic to write an article, and my quick search didn't find all that much information online, but if anyone else reads this and wants to do it then please go for it. Timelines for BBC1 and BBC2

I was wondering if BBC1 and BBC2 should have their own timelines. There are now timelines for most BBC radio stations and to a major extent BBC television is covered to an extent in the Timeline of the BBC article but individual timelines would chart the channels' development even more clearly. Funnily enough I was thinking about that a couple of days ago. We've got them for the BBC Radio networks, and for the main independent channels so it would be a useful resource. I've been adding stuff to the years in television articles, mostly from BBC Genome, so I know there's a lot of information that could be included. I guess they would both start at 1964 as before BBC Two started there was only the BBC Television Service, which is something different. It would probably be much easier to compile as well, as we've both already done much of the groundwork in other television list articles. This is Paul (talk) 19:46, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

Great minds think alike!! I'd noticed that you'd added some excellent information to the year in television articles and it would be easy to put these timelines together from those articles like I did when I compiled the various radio timelines. Also, it would take some pressure off the BBC timeline article and would allow more channel-specific information to be added.

I also agree that 1964 should be the start date for both because it was then that the channels launched, in the same way that I chose 1967 as the start date of the BBC radio station timelines because they are timelines of those stations, and not of their predecessors. It's always a tough call as to whether what we add might end up being seen by others as not notable but my view is to over-add rather than under-add and your additions are excellent additions to the timelines and years-in TV and radio articles. Rillington (talk) 20:03, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

Can you create Timeline of BBC Two

Hi and thanks, I'm glad you like it. The answer is yes. I'm planning to do one for BBC Two once I've finished the BBC One timeline. There's about a third of that left to do, but I may leave continuing with it till the weekend. I'm afraid I overdid it with the editing on Sunday and ended up with a humongous headache so I should take it easy for a few days and keep my wiki activity to a minimum. In the meantime though, if you want to add anything to the BBC One timeline then please feel free. I stopped at the end of 2001 so there's a few more years to add. Re the other BBC TV channels, I will if there's enough information about them but I think a BBC Three and BBC Four timeline could be quite small. I suppose Timeline of BBC digital channels is an option, though to be fair they've all been digital channels since 2012. This is Paul (talk) 13:27, 7 November 2018 (UTC)

I don't think that we can justify timelines for the BBC digital channels on an individual basis but a timeline covering all of the digital channels from when digital was first being considered in the mid-1990s might be an idea and it would feature all of the BBC's television channels, past and present, apart from BBC One and BBC Two.

Regarding its content, I think it would probably have to take a different format to the BBC One and BBC Two timelines by not including individual programmes by following the format of the other UK television timelines to prevent a BBC Digital TV timeline getting too complicated to follow.
