Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:HanlonLees1979.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 21:00, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:HanlonLees1979.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:HanlonLees1979.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:16, 22 February 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 12:16, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, you used the {{helpme}} tag but you did not post a question. Please write out your question and when you are done, place back the tag. I or someone else will be along to help. Alternatively, you can join the #wikipedia-en-help IRC help channel to get real-time assistance. (Click here for instant access). {{helpme}} OK, let's try this again (assuming that this is where I should be typing my question...): Why am I having such a hard time understanding the copyright restrictions on image use (or conveying the simple fact that the photos I'm uploading are either permissible for such use or created by me personally, or both)? I've tried inputting relevant data such as "promotional photo, OK for reference use" and so forth, but my images are consistently (and constantly) deleted by the photo police. Is there no easy way to type "I HAVE PERMISSION TO USE THIS @#$%!! PHOTO, LEAVE IT ALONE" in an obvious place to prevent its "speedy deletion" by overzealous martinets? (*Hrmph.*) Thank you. (Whoops! Forgot to sign it again: Thegreek147 (talk) 01:20, 27 February 2009 (UTC))[reply]

  • Okay. First of all, if it's a promotional picture of a living person, it generally shouldn't be used. There are exceptions, though. If you did indeed take the photo yourself, you should be able to select something that says "I made this image". Then in the upload wizard, after you upload the file there should be a menu that allows you to select a license. One of them should say "I own this image and release it into the public domain" or somesuch. This license should only be used if you yourself own the image. If it's a promotional image, it's probably going to get deleted anyway. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 01:25, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

{{helpme}} OK, thanks for the speedy reply. So even an image created for the sole purpose of promotion (i.e., an actor's headshot) is unsuitable for use in an article? In other words, a headshot I personally took of my brother is no good, but a snapshot of him (also taken by me) is OK, so long as I relinquish all rights to that particular image? How does ANY image remain on Wikipedia with such stringent guidelines? Also, the "I made this image myself" part isn't easy; I tried it with a scan of a 30-year-old pricetag and it was STILL removed because I apparently did not enter the correct information. Whomever is in charge of such things should really try to make it at least slightly accessible to the common folk by replacing the enigmatic "sandbox" entry form with pushbuttons or something... (P.S. My apologies if this no longer qualifies as a "help me" topic, but I'm not sure how else to respond. Thanks for your patience and assistance. All my best to the otters.) Thegreek147 (talk) 01:33, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Much obliged. Thegreek147 (talk) 01:40, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I used admin privileges to look at the deleted revisions of the other images you'd uploaded, and the problem was that you didn't specify any license. That's all. DS (talk) 01:47, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

So as long as I continue to type in this area, someone will read my posts and respond if they so choose? I tried to specify license info (particularly with the "Dart Drugstore" price tag scan) and was unable to enter the proper information into the little blank box, hence its deletion. Is there perhaps a page that simplifies the image-license-information-inputting process? Thegreek147 (talk) 05:35, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind, I think I found it... Thegreek147 (talk) 05:37, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Taso-zorro.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Taso-zorro.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — neuro(talk) 06:07, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that one's another boilerplate message that was probably left automatically. I'll have a look, see what I can do. DS (talk) 16:46, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Taso-zorro.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{Non-free fair use}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Deletion discussion about Christian Stavrakis

[edit]

Hello, Thegreek147,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Christian Stavrakis should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Christian Stavrakis .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks, Sulfurboy (talk) 03:46, 29 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hello, Thegreek147. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Christian Stavrakis".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. – Fayenatic London 06:42, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

File source problem with File:Hanlon-lees.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Hanlon-lees.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. plicit 09:39, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
