Link canvassing
[edit]Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. OhNoitsJamie Talk 05:03, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
I do not think any of the external links I added today were inappropriate! The artists in question were all Anthroposophically influenced and have some of their works at the Fine Arts Presentations site. This was not done for promotion -- the e.Gallery is part of a 501(c)(3) company -- but for informational purposes. Who better to do this work of updating information than someone who knows the information. If not me, then who should post the info or make the changes. I'm not fond of being falsely charged as a spammer. The elibrarian (talk) 05:35, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
- Regardless of the quality of the site, we don't permit link canvassing. The same rules would apply if someone created an account and started doing nothing but adding links to the Smithsonian. Links to the Smithsonian added as references by non-single-purpose accounts would not raise any eyebrows. OhNoitsJamie Talk 12:24, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of User:The elibrarian
[edit]A tag has been placed on your user page, User:The elibrarian, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Contested deletion
[edit]This page is not unambiguously promotional, because... after publishing changes to a page on Wikipedia, a page came up saying Wikipedia could not find a page with my username, and that I should create one telling about myself. That is what I did! Short and to the point, no allusions, no promotions ... just who I am! --The elibrarian (talk) 13:07, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
