Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, The Tea Set, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! 331dot (talk) 08:38, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I really appreciate this information you are the first person who has reasonable viewpoint and I completely understand conflict of interest a nd I would,d be happy for some one to read a draft The Tea Set (talk) 15:03, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

You claimed the image on your user page as your own work. This would mean that you took the image in 1978, is that true? 331dot (talk) 08:39, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why have I been permanently blocked!! thats seems to be a bit extreme, you never even gave me a chance to look into what you are saying, I've been on here chatting the whole time, it honestly is not worth it, especially if you have no patience for somebody who is trying to get to grips with how this works, unbelievable and so why is it different for other bands to have a page. All you needed to do was let me know what exactly the conflict of interest is, you expect people to know every nuance The Tea Set (talk) 08:59, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Bands do not "have pages" here. Wikipedia has articles about bands, typically written by independent editors wholly unconnected with the topic. If you are associated with the band, that is the conflict of interest. Please see the conflict of interest policy. You are not "permanently blocked", you are blocked without an end date. This is not permanent and only lasts until you can convince an admin to remove it. You are confused about many things here, and dived in without understanding them. We are willing to help you understand, but you need to follow the instructions provided(such as proposing a new, individualistic username). 331dot (talk) 09:05, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That is a lot to contemplate, I have set up a wikipedia page before, in fact I appear in quite a few. When I set up a previous page I was guided through everything by a Wiki person step by step The Tea Set (talk) 09:14, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Did you do this under another account? You've only had this one a week. The preferred term for the content of the encyclopedia is article, not the broader "page". 331dot (talk) 09:57, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page.

I think that you confused creating an article with creating an account. You edited "User:The Tea Set", which is the user page for this account, it is not article space("The Tea Set" which is currently a redirect to a Pink Floyd album). The article about the Rolling Stones is located at The Rolling Stones, not "User:The Rolling Stones".

Wikipedia is not social media necessarily meant to be easy to use. This is a project to write an encyclopedia, and there is indeed a learning curve. We usually recommend that new editors not dive right in to creating articles- the most difficult task to perform here- and start small by editing existing articles in areas that interest them, to get a feel for how Wikipedia operates. We're willing to answer your questions, but there are some actions that needed to be taken. 331dot (talk) 09:00, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

OK I understand the issue about the band existing between 1978 and 1981, Cleopatra released a best of album in 2019, but the band no longer exist, I thought by publishing that, that it was proof of existence as it is difficult to get permissions from 1981. I know what an encyclopedia is and I respect your definition of what it is, but instead of being helpful, you just ban me from even correcting the page The Tea Set (talk) 09:05, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Do you understand what I've said about your user page? 331dot (talk) 09:06, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No I dont, Ive been hit with so much stuff over a couple of paragraphs my head is spinning. A user is myself creating a page about something I am involved with? an article is.... I havent got a clue The Tea Set (talk) 09:11, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You edited your user page, User:The Tea Set, note the "User:" in the title. Your user page is not a place to write an article. Take my user page, User:331dot as an example. It is not an article about 331dot(me), it is a place where I tell the Wikipedia community about myself. It is not a part of the encyclopedia. What you are attempting to do is create an article about your band; if it existed, it would be located at The Tea Set (note the lack of "User:" in the title). It't currently occupied by a redirect to another article, but let's leave that aside for now. As I said, you have confused creating an article with creating an account. What you did was create your account. It should have a username that reflects the fact that you, the person sitting at the computer or holding the device, is the operator of the account. My username is 331dot, which represents me personally. You need to please tell us a more individualistic username we can rename this account to. I think that once that is done, things may get clearer for you and the rest will start to fall into place. You do not need to tell us your real name or use it as a username; 331dot is certainly not my real name. What would you like us to rename this account to? 331dot (talk) 09:17, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
