Replaceable fair use Image:Kara_Scott_publicity_photo.jpg

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Kara_Scott_publicity_photo.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice?Quadell (talk) (random) 17:05, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Image:Kara_Scott_publicity_photo.jpg

Hi.

I don't understand why an image that I uploaded (Image:Kara_Scott_publicity_photo.jpg) was deleted (apparently without discussion) on grounds that "it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information", when:-

  1. I contested its deletion
  2. As I pointed out on the {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}} tag, no free-use alternative exists.

Surely that was enough to have the image kept? --The Machine (talk) 15:51, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. Fair use images of living people are only allowed under very very special circumstances. See this page. Seeing as Kara Scott is alive and seems to be in the public eye a fair amount, it is reasonable for someone to take their own photo of her and release it under a free license. Melesse (talk) 03:11, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well as of yet, it would appear that no-one has done, and that page that you pointed me to has a {{historical}} tag on it, which says, "Either the page is no longer relevant or consensus has become unclear."
As the page is still relevant, I can only assume that that means that there is currently no consensus regarding the use of fair-use images of living people. --The Machine (talk) 16:33, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's in the policy, here, I just like to use that page because it gives the most detailed explanation as to why. Melesse (talk) 21:18, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was looking at the aforementioned article with a long title, and I noticed that you had added ouzo to the list of ingredients. If this was simply random nonsense, then you need do nothing further, as I have reverted it. However, if this was a good faith edit, then I would like to hear what your basis for it was. Please feel free to respond to this query on the article's talk page, as I have it on my watchlist. Many thanks. Atelaes (talk) 02:46, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have responded on the article's talk page. Atelaes (talk) 08:04, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

[edit]

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

WikiProject Professional wrestling newsletter message

[edit]

It has recently been brought to the attention of WP:PW that the newsletter is being to delivered to several users who have not been actively editing for several months. As a result, their talk pages have become increasingly large, unmanageable and slow to load due to a lack of archiving.
In response, this message is being sent to all editors listed in Category:WikiProject Professional wrestling participants to say that anyone who does not list their name at Wikipedia:WikiProject Professional wrestling/Newsletter/Active before May 16 will be automatically listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Professional wrestling/Newsletter/Nospam, and will no longer receive the newsletter or any notification of it. If you are added to Wikipedia:WikiProject Professional wrestling/Newsletter/Nospam, please feel free to remove your name if you desire.
If you wish to continue receiving the newsletter as normal, please add your name to Wikipedia:WikiProject Professional wrestling/Newsletter/Active. If you simply wish to receive notification of a new issue, but not have the full newsletter delivered to your talk page, please add your name to the notification only list.
If you have any queries please contact me at my talk page or leave a message at WT:PW. Thank you for your co-operation. ♥NiciVampireHeart00:36, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
