Hello Apostropher

[edit]

I'll tolerate your changing my "differently to" to "differently from", this time. Because many people seem to prefer it that way. But the other is equally correct.

Your name makes you sound like a dangerous person to have around. Do you add them, take them away, or both? What we need is a blitz on semi-colons. People use them all the time to join completely separate sentences; do you know anything about semi-colons?

"Joan Bloggs was found shot through the head; the body of a dead crow was also found at the site."

Oh, and if you have a Royal appointment, I presume you are British. Many (perhaps most) articles are written in American English. If the article is about a British, European or Colonial subject, then it isn't (or probably isn't). Some people will diligently go around changing "colour" to "color" and removing the double letter from before the "ed" and "ing". The niceties of spelling and grammar are to be preserved, wherever appropriate.

Welcome

[edit]

Hi, The Apostropher Royal. This is NOT some automated message...it's from a real person. You can talk to me right now. Welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed you've just joined, and wanted to give you a few tips to get you started. If you have any questions, please talk to us. The tips below should help you to get started. Best of luck!  Chzz  ►  19:38, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ようこそ
  • You don't need to read anything - anybody can edit; just go to an article and edit it. Be Bold, but please don't put silly stuff in - it will be removed very quickly, and will annoy people.
  • Ask for help. Talk to us live, or edit this page, put {{helpme}} and describe what help you need. Someone will reply very quickly - usually within a few minutes.
  • Edit existing articles, before you make your own. Look at some subjects that you know about, and see if you can make them a bit better. For example, Wikipedia:Cleanup#2009.
  • When you're ready, read about Your first article. It should be about something well-known, and it will need references.

Good luck with editing; please drop me a line some time on my own talk page.

There's lots of information below. Once again, welcome to the fantastic world of Wikipedia!

How to reply on talk pages

[edit]

It's best to reply to messages below them, indented with :. Remember to sign at the end with ~~~~. Then you end up with a threaded conversation, like;

First message here chzz (talk) 00:01, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reply here The Apostropher Royal (talk) 00:10, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
More here chzz (talk) 00:20, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Then, to alert the other user that there is a message, go to their talk page, create a new section (called 'talkback' or someth), and put this in,

{{talkback|The Apostropher Royal}} ~~~~

...which will look like this;

Hello, The Apostropher Royal. You have new messages at The Apostropher Royal's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

England articles missing geocoordinate data

[edit]

Category:England articles missing geocoordinate data

Go to an article, then go to a related article (the town/city nearby etc - may be a link in the article?), click on the globe on that, then choose the Yahoo maps. Find where the place is; if you 'right click' it'll do the car journey to 'go there' and thus will show the coord where you r-clicked. That'll be the missing info then, so edit the one with the missing coord, and add this (with the lat/long);

{{coord|<lat>|<long>|display=title}}

And remove the {{coord missing|Greater Manchester}} or whatever it is.
