Sorry, but first time to deal with something factually incorrect -- and there is no real way to edit it when it simply does not exist. I believed I had given an appropriate reason -- the "series" is made up and we are having to respond to online media reports that are giving this inaccurate Wiki page as their "proof" TheWABACmachine (talk) 21:25, 8 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's not how things work on Wikipedia; we always work towards a consensus. You should bring up the issue on the article's talk page, and if a consensus cannot be reached there, at the Dispute Resolution Noticeboard. Do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive until the dispute is resolved through consensus. As such, please read WP:NOPR before attempting any more edits to any ASU-related articles or content. First and foremost, however, I'm a graduate of ULM (Northeast when I attended) and born and raised in Monroe, La. While this came to my attention in my role here at A-State, I'm being very frank -- growing up in high school in Monroe, never heard this. As a student and then graduate student at NLU, never heard it. I just reached out today to some more former athletes from eras before and after my time at NLU that are associated with A-State. News to them. If you have a source that supports this, if there is some traveling trophy between the schools, please cite it. Justification for the edits on "Trail of Tears Classic" and commentary on "Paid Professional"

For the record of those who might bounce around to this page, I want to put down -- in my own self-interest -- that the above edits came to pass. The "Trail of Tears Classic" was a hoax, and it did indeed cause a small amount of harm by bringing into question the two universities involved as being insensitive to Native American issues. This is no small accusation when considering both had to change their mascots, and both remain under a level of monitoring from the NCAA to not allow the "promotion" of their old mascot names.

I came to this thread and was very up front -- I work these days for A-State -- but I am also a native of Monroe, graduate of NLU and former employee there. What I found shocking and quite disturbing was the ad hominem attack on me because I was a "WP-PR".

This wasn't about shading, spinning or other PR. This was about the truth. What was there was wrong. Inaccurate. And because I work in the field, I am now a sub-human?

Excuse a moment's rant here, but I am insulted. With a PhD in American history and a considerable background in Division I sports, I think I can speak with authority about both sourcing -- which was non-existent at the level of encyclopedia justification -- and the subject matter. As I said in my responses, it wasn't personal to the person who posted it. It was simply wrong.

I will admit to not understanding the system better for a correction, and now that I have seen how it works, I am more disturbed. I happen to be THE source if something is wrong about certain institutions. Am I not allowed to correct a factual error on behalf of Arkansas State University? Or wait days, if not weeks, for an error to be vetted?

Is there no better way? Frustrating to know that -- motivations not questioned here -- one person can post something as fact here, it becomes the source for another person's media account and off we go. TheWABACmachine (talk) 16:54, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Otusandbillclinton.jpg, which you've attributed to Michael Storey. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included.
