Question about editing
Hi,
I would like to ask if I can edit this article. I would like to fix the coordinates and remove the COI tag since it seems there is no discussion going on and I am a volunteer, not paid to edit. Would be ok to do so ?
Please let me know
Many thanks Saraino (talk) 21:57, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
- Hello @Saraino:! Removing the COI tag yourself would be inappropriate at this point. I have not extensively looked into this. @Vituzzu: was the one who placed the tag and can perhaps provide more insight. TheSandDoctor Talk 00:07, 1 February 2023 (UTC)
- Ok. Let's see what @Vituzzu says. Just to understand this kind of situations: If you find an error such has the wrong coordinates. Would be reccomended to suggest edits or is it also inappropriate? Saraino (talk) 02:05, 1 February 2023 (UTC)
- You're yet another sockpuppet of Sallustinus' (aka Giovanni Morassutti), the COI is quite blatant. Vituzzu (talk) 09:47, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
- Hi,
- I see your point, but the article was proposed at Articles for Creation and improved in order to be neutral and non-promotional providing independent viewpoints. Would suggesting some changes be appropriate to comply with WP:NPO to fix the problem and resolve the issue so that the tag can be removed? Thanks Saraino (talk) 12:15, 2 February 2023 (UTC)

Question from Jeff Johnson Scorcher (02:03, 4 February 2023)
Hi The Sand Doctor!
I am wanting to learn how to use my credible history from a band I was once in (Jason and the Scorchers), and create my own personal page under my own name. I have created and completed other projects such as solo records which have been release as well as working in the film industry.
Would appreciate any advice and or helpful suggestions you may have in reference to doing this.
Thank you Jeff --Jeff Johnson Scorcher (talk) 02:03, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
- Hello @Jeff Johnson Scorcher:! I would recommend reading this page and discourage you from creating a page about yourself or anything that you are involved in (e.g. employer, group you founded etc.) as it generates a significant conflict of interest, regardless of your intentions. If you decide to go ahead anyways despite this advice, please review WP:COIDISCLOSE/implement, read these guides (and this page) for writing an article and sourcing, and submit it through the Articles for Creation process. If you have any other questions, please feel free to let me know! TheSandDoctor Talk 06:39, 5 February 2023 (UTC)

Recent changes
- In the Vector 2022 skin, logged-out users using the full-width toggle will be able to see the setting of their choice even after refreshing pages or opening new ones. This only applies to wikis where Vector 2022 is the default. [1]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 7 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 8 February. It will be on all wikis from 9 February (calendar).
- Previously, we announced when some wikis would be in read-only for a few minutes because of a switch of their main database. These switches will not be announced any more, as the read-only time has become non-significant. Switches will continue to happen at 7AM UTC on Tuesdays and Thursdays. [2]
- Across all the wikis, in the Vector 2022 skin, logged-in users will see the page-related links such as "What links here" in a new side menu. It will be displayed on the other side of the screen. This change had previously been made on Czech, English, and Vietnamese Wikipedias. [3]
- Community Wishlist Survey 2023 will stop receiving new proposals on Monday, 6 February 2023, at 18:00 UTC. Proposers should complete any edits by then, to give time for translations and review. Voting will begin on Friday, 10 February.
Future changes
- Gadgets and user scripts will be changing to load on desktop and mobile sites. Previously they would only load on the desktop site. It is recommended that wiki administrators audit the gadget definitions prior to this change, and add
skins=…
for any gadgets which should not load on mobile. More details are available.

This newsletter includes two key updates about the Editing team's work:
- The Editing team will finish adding new features to the Talk pages project and deploy it.
- They are beginning a new project, Edit check.
Talk pages project
The Editing team is nearly finished with this first phase of the Talk pages project. Nearly all new features are available now in the Beta Feature for Discussion tools.
It will show information about how active a discussion is, such as the date of the most recent comment. There will soon be a new "Add topic" button. You will be able to turn them off at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing-discussion. Please tell them what you think.
An A/B test for Discussion tools on the mobile site has finished. Editors were more successful with Discussion tools. The Editing team is enabling these features for all editors on the mobile site.
New Project: Edit Check
The Editing team is beginning a project to help new editors of Wikipedia. It will help people identify some problems before they click "Publish changes". The first tool will encourage people to add references when they add new content. Please watch that page for more information. You can join a conference call on 3 March 2023 to learn more.

Question from Sarahadad20 (14:52, 25 February 2023)
Hey, a quick query. Am I allowed to delete the tags on the page when I've fixed the profile according to the tag's instructions? --Sarahadad20 (talk) 14:52, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Sarahadad20: In this case, yes, thank you for improving Wikipedia! .
- As a more nuanced answer not necessarily applicable here but worth the read for future FYI: yes, provided that you weren't the one that added the content that was objected to and that the issue is actually resolved. If you are the one that added the content it is generally best to defer to others to remove the tag. I took a look at this instance and it was actually this version that was tagged way back in 2016. The tag probably could've been removed some time ago, especially now that the source has been swapped out. Well done, Sarahadad20! TheSandDoctor Talk 18:39, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for the guidance. Sarahadad20 (talk) 18:59, 25 February 2023 (UTC)

Question from Sarahadad20 (20:12, 27 February 2023)
Lately, I've been working on some tricky pages like pages with UPI tags, close connection tags, and similar others. After I've made the edits for correction am I eligible to remove that template? --Sarahadad20 (talk) 20:12, 27 February 2023 (UTC)

Problems
- Last week, in some areas of the world, there were problems with loading pages for 20 minutes and saving edits for 55 minutes. These issues were caused by a problem with our caching servers due to unforseen events during a routine maintenance task. [13][14]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 28 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 1 March. It will be on all wikis from 2 March (calendar).
- All wikis will be read-only for a few minutes on March 1. This is planned for 14:00 UTC. [15]
