- Thank you, @Gerda Arendt:! Hard to believe it's been 6?!?! years already! TheSandDoctor Talk 03:18, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
July songs my story today - Let's believe ;) - Thank you today for Mick Jagger, "about Sir Michael Philip Jagger -- most commonly known by his stage name Mick Jagger. While studying to become an economist, he found success in a little known band he co-founded called the Rolling Stones in '62, which went on to be the most commercially successful band in history...with him at the helm. AllMusic and MSN have called him "one of the most popular and influential frontmen in the history of rock & roll" and Billboard has called him "the rock and roll frontman". He is best known for being the trailblazing lead singer of the Rolling Stones and half of the Jagger–Richards songwriting team, one of the most successful songwriting partnerships in history. According to Steven Van Zandt, Jagger's acceptance on pop radio "was a turning point in rock & roll. He broke open the door for everyone else." - "He received a knighthood in 2003, has been inducted into two music halls of fame (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and UK Music Hall of Fame), and even had a 19-million-year-old species of water nymph named after him. Jagger's style has been studied by academics and his vocal delivery and his sense of pitch and melody have baffled other singers. He has either directly or indirectly (through the Stones) served as inspiration for many artists, including Taylor Swift, Jack White, Steven Tyler, and Iggy Pop; in 2011, Maroon 5 released "Moves like Jagger", a song inspired by his unique dancing style. Despite all this (there is much more I didn't cover) and the immense success he has achieved in life, he didn't let the fame get to his head; the late Charlie Watts described him as "the least egotistical person" who would "do what's right for the band"."! - Do you take flowers also, as kind of "delicacy"? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:20, 26 July 2023 (UTC)

Gurbaksh Chahal
Hello @TheSandDoctor:, I wanted to bring to your attention that @Chisme: is once again engaging in disruptive edits on the Gurbaksh Chahal page. Despite receiving warnings from admins, including yourself in the past, @Chisme: continues to make these edits. The latest edits specifically pertain to adding increased remarks to a Domestic Violence case that occurred more than 10 years ago and are still visible on the page.
@Chisme:'s editorialized version:
Domestic violence and battery conviction Chahal was arrested in 2013 and charged with 45 felonies following an attack on his then-girlfriend. Video footage of the assault, taken by a camera in Chahal's bedroom ceiling, showed Chahal smothering the woman with a pillow and hitting and kicking her 117 times over a half hour period. In August 2013, the San Francisco District Attorney's Office (SFDA) charged Chahal with committing acts of domestic violence against his girlfriend. The video of the incident was ruled inadmissable in the case as there had been no warrant for its seizure. Chahal proclaimed his innocence but nevertheless entered into a no contest plea to one charge of domestic violence battery and one charge of battery. He was sentenced to three years' probation, ordered to pay a fine, and compelled to undergo a 52-week domestic violence training course along with 25 hours of community service. Subsequently, he was fired from his position as CEO of RadiumOne (Chahal alleged that his guilty plea was coerced by the board of RadiumOne). In 2016, after he committed acts of domestic violence against a second woman, the San Francisco County Superior Court found Chahal guilty of violating the terms of his September 2014 probation. The court sentenced him to one year in jail; he resigned from his position as CEO of Gravity4. The California State Appeals Court upheld the verdict in April 2018 and Chahal served six months in San Francisco County Jail.
The most recent version before the edits by @Crystallizedcarbon: at 19:21, July 31, 2022 was the status quo. @Crystallizedcarbon: has restored most of Chisme's disruptive edits, but this specific part still needs to be restored. I'm flagging it to your attention.

- Special:BlockedExternalDomains is a new tool that allows easier blocking of plain domains (and their subdomains). This is more easily searchable and is faster for the software to use than the existing MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. It does not support regex (for complex cases), URL path-matching, or the MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist. (T337431)
- The arbitration cases named Scottywong and AlisonW closed 10 July and 16 July respectively.
- The SmallCat dispute arbitration case is in the workshop phase.

Soft block?
Hi, are you really sure this user Ching chong 8964 (talk · contribs) only need a soft block? This is an offensive username and only used for vandalism. -Lemonaka 07:50, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Lemonaka: I'm sorry for the delay in responding. I got distracted and this slipped through the cracks until now. I took a look at the account's sole edit and while it was misguided with regard to the purpose of the list, I didn't take it to be "vandalism" so much as just inexperience; I didn't think that it rose to that bar. If another admin disagrees and wants to harden the block, I wouldn't interfere/object. TheSandDoctor Talk 06:37, 13 August 2023 (UTC)
Question from Sadko
Hello TheSandDoctor, I hope that you are doing well.
Since I know you are an experienced bot operator, I have a request for your help. Namely, some time ago, on Wikipedia in the Serbian language, we replaced the form of the portal exclusively with the form of the portal bar, by wide consensus of Wikipedia editors. We did this work using my colleague's bot. @Milicevic01: However, a new problem arose on one part of the articles. The old form for the portal was massively placed in the wrong part of the article. Which is to say, now we have the portal bar placed in the wrong place, above the categories, instead of at the very bottom of the article. Our editors do not know how to massively, with the help of a bot, move this line of code to the bottom of the article. Could you help us and explain to our colleague how to do the much needed changes? Thanks in advance. — Sadko (words are wind) 01:31, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Sadko: So you're saying that the bot Milicevic01 created is functioning correctly but that the template was misplaced by humans on a number of articles, correct? Working off of that assumption, that is definitely an interesting conundrum. I do not know how this bot is coded, but presumably you could remove the portal's template from those articles and just re-append it after all of the page text/content? This would assume that it does not have any per-page parameters, though those could probably also be copied out -- perhaps with a regular expression. TheSandDoctor Talk 06:07, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
- No it cant be re-appended because per-page parameters, regex is probably only option. I use Pywikibot. Examples {{Портал бар|Хемија}}, {{Портал бар|Биологија}} etc.
- Regards Milicevic01 (talk) 07:39, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
- Exactly, human error, and the problem is present on 1/6 of all of our articles. I hope that there is some good way to go forward. Thanks for your comment. — Sadko (words are wind) 17:11, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Milicevic01 and Sadko: you might be able to get some inspiration off of the template work I did with TweetBot; the convert() function probably does something similar to what you're looking at, at least for collecting the parameters/their content and how to remove templates. I would look into using pywikibot in conjunction with mwparserfromhell. TheSandDoctor Talk 18:34, 15 August 2023 (UTC)

Recent changes
- As part of the changes for the better diff handling of paragraph splits, improved detection of splits is being rolled out. Over the last two weeks, we deployed this support to group0 and group1 wikis. This week it will be deployed to group2 wikis. [19]
- All Special:Contributions pages now show the user's local edit count and the account's creation date. [20]
- Wikisource users can now use the
prpbengalicurrency
label to denote Bengali currency characters as page numbers inside the<pagelist>
tag. [21] - Two preferences have been relocated. The preference "Enable the visual editor" is now shown on the "Editing" tab at all wikis. Previously it was shown on the "Beta features" tab at some wikis. The preference "Use the wikitext mode inside the visual editor, instead of a different wikitext editor" is now also shown on the "Editing" tab at all wikis, instead of the "Beta features" tab. - The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 29 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 30 August. It will be on all wikis from 31 August (calendar).
- New signups for a Wikimedia developer account will start being pushed towards idm.wikimedia.org, rather than going via Wikitech. Further information about the new system is available.
- All right-to-left language wikis, plus Korean, Armenian, Ukrainian, Russian, and Bulgarian Wikipedias, will have a link in the sidebar that provides a short URL of that page, using the Wikimedia URL Shortener. This feature will come to more wikis in future weeks. [24]
Future changes
- The removal of the DoubleWiki extension is being discussed. This extension currently allows Wikisource users to view articles from multiple language versions side by side when the

symbol next to a specific language edition is selected. Comments on this are welcomed at the phabricator task. - A proposal has been made to merge the second hidden-categories list (which appears below the wikitext editing form) with the main list of categories (which is further down the page). More information is available on Phabricator; feedback is welcome!
