Greetings from the little community of Roebuck, South Carolina! I am very new to wiki-editing. I am interested in learning about taking an active role in the Wiki-communities. I don't get easily offended and welcome advise. For the present, I am interested in working specifically with South Carolina projects. I have been looking around the cite and reading but I'll confess, it does not seem very novice-friendly but hey, I am patient enough to continue studying and seeking out advice. Thanks...btw, you may call me Buddy. That is my actual family nickname as well as what close friends and church members refer to me as.

Hello to you!

[edit]

Hi, and welcome!

I am pretty new to Wikipedia too (well about 2 years editing, but very sporadically..), and have only just found the tea house.

I recommend you jump in and start editing pages. I started by coming back from a trip to Spain, and then being unimpressed with the pages about the various sites I visited. Maybe you can expand on your corner of SC? Or you could lay your hands on some reference book - at home, local library, at your church? - and add some references to things that are currently unreferenced. Another good thing is rewording things that are poorly worded, bad grammar etc. Well, they are just some thoughts. Over time you might write whole sections or full articles (I have only ever written one full article, quite recently)

I think people on Wikipedia develop a passion for a particular area which they research, write, maintain free from vandalism etc. and it is often not an area that they had much prior contact with. A great way to learn.

Well have fun, and as one baptist to another, I hope you have a great time contributing to Wikipedia. Mozzy66 (talk) 10:47, 4 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

2019 US Banknote Contest

[edit]
US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here
