Great, please add to your userpage, this will help identify that you have been adopted. Now, the first thing to know is your interests. Find a few WP:Wikiprojects that fit your interest. A list can be found here. After getting experience editing the article space, you can move to more behind the scenes work such as WP:CSD, WP:AFD, fighting Wikipedia:Vandalism and voting at WP:RFA! Great job so far, but remeber to use the edit summary box to briefly describe your changes. This will let other editors know what you did even without seeing the dif. Also, try using Wikipedia:RefToolbar to help create references. TO enable it, go to Preferences/Gadgets/Editing gadgets and check off refTools. Then, the next time you need to write a ref click on the button above the editing box with {{Cite}} on it and it will give you choices. Pick the write one and fill as much information as possible. Currently, when I create a reference, I use this method : [1]. But may I ask if there any other ways of doing this? and also, what is the difference between a reference, a source and a note? TheObsidianFriar (talk) 07:28, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The only way to make refs are with the <ref></ref> tags. There different types of references such as cite web, cite news and cite book. Those are specific references for a specific type of source and are avaliable with the RefTool. General, references are a section when all the sources are websites or news. Notes are used when no link can be found for a term or to explain something complicated without having to take up space in the main article. In different articles, sources and references are used differently. If you look at an article I wrote, [[Into the Wild {warriors)]], you will that the references is used without a sources section. In that article, I used RefTools to generate the citation and kept letting the citation direct back to the references section. Bit confusing now. Meanwhile, in Edmund Evans, refernces section only has the citations down and the use of the citation go to the Sources section. Generally, IMO, Sources are for when books are used so the information can be found on a specific page instead of just citing the whole book as the source. References are for websites that only contain one page of information. This is confusing so ask more question if neccassary! Derild4921 13:04, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly, unless the image fall under Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria. If you click upload file which is under toolbox on the left side, bullets 6-9 fall under the criteria. Derild4921 22:55, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Guestbook linkage trouble

Just so you know, you accidentally linked your guestbook incorrectly when adding it to Bydand's list. You linked it as User:TheObsidianFriar/Guest book when on your main page you say User:TheObsidianFriar/Guestbook. There is one signature on each page. What are you going to do; which one do you want to delete? Why did you undue a number of contributions I made to the article on unequal treaties with out any discussion? Are you aware this violates Wikipedia policy, that there is a 3 strikes limit on such changes? All of my changes were referenced against either recognized authoritative textbooks, or where available, established newspaper & scholarly publications on-line, can I ask what sources you have at hand to discount them? I have not made any violation of Wikipedia policy in my removal of irrelevant and biased additions to the Unequal treaty article which do not meet Wikipedia standards. I hope that you are aware of the Wikipedia Ignore all rules policy, which dictates that using common sense is a fundamental principle above any policy. Below are examples of your contributions that led me to manually revert the article back to a previous version. →″By the 20th Century, China could no longer pretend to superiority, and many modern Chinese just hoped to be considered an equal among nations for the time being.″— This is the starting sentence for the second paragraph that you added under the Overview section for the Unequal Treaty article. As you can see, it is not written from a neutral point of view. It is opinionated and leads readers to none of what is expected in the overview of an article. It does not prepare the reader for the selected list of unequal treaties that comes right after, nor does it cover over anything that is important and pertaining to the subject matter in general. →″Ignoring nearly 2000 years of unequal treaties and unwritten agreements between Hegemonic China and tributary Korea[2]″— This was taken from around line 24 under your edit of the overview section. This is again, a starting sentence that you added to a paragraph. You referenced http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/List_of_tributaries_of_Imperial_China which is another Wikipedia article. Understand that in reverting your contributions, I am following Wikipedia guidelines and I am only trying to improve the article itself. I am not going against your viewpoints or attacking you or your contributions in any way. Wikipedia has a standard that cannot be ignored. If a contribution is seen to be inadequate and unfit for an article, it will be speedily edited (whether by me or another editor). Please know that all of your contributions can and will be mercilessly edited if they are seen as unfit for the article. Please see the Five Pillars of Wikipedia and you will understand.
In addition, most of, if not all of the topics that you have brought in, are covered by other articles. In short, the majority of your edits do not progress the article in the direction of the subject matter and therefore do not belong in the Unequal treaty article. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge!
