[edit]

I noticed you were seeking to be adopted and I would love to have you as one of my adoptees. Contact me here. Meldshal42 12:37, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I received your note as well; I'd be happy to help you learn the wiki-markup and such, just leave a message on my talk page to confirm. David Fuchs (talk) 13:01, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay then. You mentioned wanting to learn wiki-markup... anything in particular? I'll go scrounging up some good tutorials and code for you... David Fuchs (talk) 23:39, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Getting Started

[edit]

Well, groups are easy. I've mentored a few people, but most don't stay very long... there are many possible reasons as to why, but part of it might be not finding a focus, a part of the Wiki that you can work on. So my question is what do you want to do? There is article writing of course; so find a subject that interests you, browse the articles in it, and see if you can add to them. In some cases, it's quite possible your subject is already beyond your helping- when I first came to Wikipedia, I wanted to work on dinosaur articles, but then I realized that the people editing the articles knew waaay more than I did; there wasn't much I could do there. But there's always stuff that needs to be done. Now, I work a lot on the Halo video game series, because video games and fictional character articles, etc. are often filled with cruft of all sorts, or are written in-universe, and generally need the most help on Wikipedia. But once you've found an area you can help with, see about joining a WikiProject. There's a ig long directory of projects you can browse to find collections of editors who are interested in the same things you are. Most projects are easy to join; just signing your name with four ~~~~'s is all you need to do. If there isn't a project on what you want to work on, you can always create one: no one is going to stop you from creating Wikipedia:TheDarknessIsInMe Project (well, if it was about you maybe they would. :P ) Hope that helps; if you have any more questions, leave it on me talk page. Happy editing, David Fuchs (talk) 12:53, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
