Your contributed article, Alice (mango)

[edit]

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Alice (mango). First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Haden (mango). Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Haden (mango) - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. WWGB (talk) 08:22, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How does X work?

[edit]

{{helpme}} Your question. --Langra (talk) 08:43, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I need in excess of 100 pages to write about that many varieties of mangoes (one page per variety). It is imperative that the format of all the pages be the same. Based on that assumption, i started with Alice (mango) by copying the format from Haden (mango), and then I was going to edit/change/replace the features of Haden mango with those of Alice mango. And then repeat the process for rest of the mangoes.

I'm new in Wikipedia as you had already noticed. If I had violated any established rules, then it was with no malicious intent.

Please advise the most efficient way to achieve my objective.

Thank you for your understanding. Langra (talk) 09:00, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'd suggest creating a userspace draft. Go to Help:Userspace draft and follow the instructions there to create an article in your userspace. Once the article is done, you can use the "move" function to place it in article space. If for some reason this doesn't work, let me know and I'll create the userpage for you. Grondemar 09:04, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Just noticed you aren't autoconfirmed yet. I created the page you need at User:Langra/Drafts/Alice (mango). Grondemar 09:06, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed you moved the userspace draft I created for you to article space. I have to warn you, unless you add content to it very soon it will likely be deleted. I had to remove my request to not delete the page as it does not apply when it is not in userspace. Grondemar 01:31, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Brahm Kai Meu (mango) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. Hello

[edit]

Hi, I have received your message. Not sure why your new articles were deleted though. Making articles here is relatively easy but if you would like me to make them for you using your phoitographs I can do it.Squam256 (talk) 20:25, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Cushman (mango), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing no content to the reader. Please note that external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article don't count as content. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Hello again

[edit]

Are you the same poster from the 2ndlight forum who takes all the pics of mangos?

If you want to start an article you need to make sure it has references so it doesn't get targeted for deletion. You can insert a reference by clicking the last icon aty the top of the page editing toolbar. Squam256 (talk) 15:31, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Squam

[edit]

Yes, I'm the same poster. I take pictures of not only mangoes but of any tropical fruit. Do you post in 2nd Light too?

Thanks for your suggestion about using the ref. I tried but didn't work because I do not think I understand it yet. I'm still struggling, as you can see.

I had posted 22 mango images so far. Would you please use the ref on one and demonstrate how it is done? That would be appreciated very much. Thanks. Langra (talk) 01:57, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

hi

[edit]

Well I have tried to join the 2nd light forum in the past because I liked the gardening section but for some reason they would never send me a confirmation email. I may create a forum devoted to mangoes this summer when I have the time. I always enjoy seeing your pics of mangos on that site and I like the site you have made where you trace the lineage of the different cultivars.

For a reference you need a legitimate source of information, such as the articles published by the FSHS on mangoes. I have used those in the past as a source for the articles I've written. I'll take a look at the pictures you have uploaded here and try to make an article with them to show you how its done. You can follow the edits by clicking on "history" at the top of each article. new article

[edit]

Ok, I am going to make an article for the Dot mango and type what I am doing here so that you know how it works. First, i searched "Dot mango" on the wikipedia search, to make sure there is no existing article. Above the result you will see a phrase that says "You may create the page "Dot mango", but consider checking the search results below to see whether it is already covered."

In this case, I click on the word "Dot mango" which is in red text. Red text links are links that lead to an article that has yet to be created.

When I click, it bring me to a page that says "editing dot mango". I then begin by typing an opening statement:

A Dot mango is a mango cultivar that was developed in South Florida. The cultivar has limited to no commercial plantings but is sold as nursery stock as a dooryard tree in Florida.

Always hilight the subject name in the opening statement and click the B icon (first icon on the toolbar) to make it bold.

I then start a level 2 headline by clicking the big A, 4th icon from the left on the toolbar. This is the History section of the article, which will contain the references which are crucial to preventing the article from being deleted. To insert a reference, simply click the reference tab at the end of the toolbar. Paste the link to your reference in between the reference code. For the mango articles, I like to use the PDF articles posted on the FSHS website that are either from the old Florida mango forum or have been written more recently by Dr. Richard Campbell. I also use the Florida Mango Pedigree study PDF as a reference for most articles.

next

[edit]

at the end of the article, I add an additional level 2 headline titled "References". Preview the new article, and it will ask you to add a reference code, which you can paste below the references section, which results in the references being listed.

Mangos / Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden

[edit]

Langra - I see you really like mangos and have added pictures of them to the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden article. Since this really has nothing to do with the garden and it duplicates your work on List of mango cultivars I have deleted them from the Fairchild article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by GroveGuy (talkcontribs) 05:03, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I see that you are adding a bunch of photos to this page, and wanted to warn you that they might be removed. There is a policy that galleries should be in commons.wikimedia, not in wikipedia itself. It certainly seems appropriate to add a photo of the fruit to the page, and perhaps you'd like to choose your favourite to be a representative one. Hi,

Notice

The article Bennet Alphonso has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The article is a 13 year old stub that has had no references since it was created. There's also an element of original research to it.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
