You are right about German, but wrong about English. The word "man" can simply mean "member of the human race", and especially so in poetry written before 1970. Using "people," as a word of latin rather than germanic origin, looks wrong in this context.Robert A.West (Talk) 14:55, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
