Copy edit of Peter Settman
[edit]Thanks for your copy edit of Peter Settman. I looked over it and have a couple notes:
Ronny och Ragge was one of Settman's most prominent shows.
I was a little confused about this because it does not appear in the list of shows further down. (Also, titles of shows usually get italics.) An earlier version of the article had: "Ronny och Ragge" (Ronny and Ragge) were perhaps Settman's best-known characters. Perhaps BabbaQ could verify whether these are characters or a show.Gunnar Törnstrand and Marianne Settman, both of whom never married each other
. This may be a bit overly formal. Wikipedia likes to use plain English and so often shies away from "whom" (there is actually a movement to phase-out "whom" from the language). The earlier "who never married [each other]" may actually be more clear for most readers.at the age of ten [...] At age 21
. It can be a little tricky to tell when to use numerals and when to use words for numbers. The MOS says to put numbers from zero to nine in words, those which can be stated in one or two words as either words or numerals, and others as numerals (MOS:NUMERAL). However, whenever numbers may be compared, they should be in the same format (eg: 4 of 120 subjects not four of 120 subjects. Since ages are often compared, they tend to get numeral formatting even when they're not in the same sentence. With these two ages in adjacent sentences, I feel it'd be easier for the reader if the numbers are in the same format, and in this case numerals would generally be preferred.During the winter of 2013-2014
There should be an en-dash between the two years rather than a hyphen. Hyphens are used for conjunction (joining) while dashes are used for disjunction (separation). With numeric ranges, you can pretty much rely on an unspaced en dash (but be careful of the from-to or between-and ranges – see MOS:DASH). You can make an en dash with {{ndash}} or – if you don't have an easy keyboard shortcut. With years, in most cases you write out all four digits on both sides of the dash. But because a winter is a regular interval of less than a full calendar year, you could write it as 2013–14. (This also applies to fiscal years, sports seasons, television seasons, etc.)
The first point, which affects the meaning, is the most important. The rest is MOS minutia and possibly not essential for a C-class copy edit. Please consider signing up for the GOCE March copy-editing drive and submitting this copy edit (if you do, I make the wordcount at 363 words). – Reidgreg (talk) 14:55, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for your feedback Reidgreg. Consulting the IMDB page for Settman it appears that Ronny and Ragge are just characters and not eponymously named from a show. I will keep the drive in mind. 🙂 --Tenryuu (talk) 23:54, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
Copyedit for Mishmar HaEmek
[edit]Thanks for the review. I'll address the notes.
"The residents of Mishmar HaEmek represented the left-wing of the Israeli Labor Movement, which was more peace-seeking and humanistic towards the Arabs" compared to who? – compared to the rest of the Labour movement.- "British High Commissioner Arthur Grenfell Wauchope visited the kibbutz and armed 15 members he appointed as guards; however in August 1936 the situation worsened" Maybe elaborate a bit more – I'll see what I can do
"Since 1926" I'm assuming it's been agriculture-based since it was created – The aim of the sentence is to explain that for most of the kibbutz' history, its economy was based on agriculture, while today the plastic factory takes up a significant portion of its economy. It is explained this way because there isn't really a way of determining when exactly you can say that the kibbutz was based on agriculture, agriculture and manufacturing and manufacturing alone. So it says pretty much that "since it was established, it was based on agriculture, but today it is also based on manufacturing/plastic factory".
There is another note you've left which simply explained your edit, and I approve it so there is no need to bring it up here. Note that I've added another paragraph in the head of the Archaeology section, which is information that was drafted in my computer and I've forgotten to add it to the article. Also, please ping me with your reponse.--Bolter21 (talk to me) 15:50, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

The Dota2 discussion on Teahouse
[edit]Hey, I believe you are part of the gaming community as your user page describes. While you suggested that gamepedia is where I should be looking if I want something Encyclopedic regarding Dota2. Given Gamepedia isn't a part of the Wikimedia Foundation, how else do you think I can contribute? I am currently reading up about players who don't have pages currently. Is there anything else that you might suggest? TIA NotJuggerNot (talk) 18:00, 8 March 2020 (UTC)
- @NotJuggerNot: I'm not sure I understand you. The point that others were making in the Teahouse question was that Wikipedia does not need to be so detailed on the game if it isn't notable outside of its universe (as per WP:FANCRUFT). If anything, I'd just post the link to the Gamepedia in question on its page. Joining Gamepedia requires a free Twitch account, so why not contribute there?
- Do the players meet Wikipedia's notability standards? --Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝) 18:23, 8 March 2020 (UTC)
- @Tenryuu: Oh, now I understand. So, Gamepedia is a Wikimedia project too? Or is it an independent platform? I have done some surface level research and it does not. Just asking for some knowledge.
- @NotJuggerNot: Gamepedia is owned by Fandom, which uses wiki software, but is not affiliated with Wikimedia. They have different (less strict) standards than Wikipedia does. --Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝) 00:20, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
- @Tenryuu: Oh, now I understand. So, Gamepedia is a Wikimedia project too? Or is it an independent platform? I have done some surface level research and it does not. Just asking for some knowledge.
Regarding the players, some of them are notable enough to have stub-class drafts. There must be others who can have good articles written about them. I guess I will put myself up to some researching and get back to you. Lastly, is it okay if I stay in touch with you if I need help in writing drafts or anything? Please let me know when I am being bothersome. Thanks :-) NotJuggerNot (talk) 21:28, 8 March 2020 (UTC)
- @NotJuggerNot: If there are players that are notable or have made a notable event, such as TotalBiscuit or the Blitzchung controversy go for it. I'm not the best person to ask to review drafts; I generally work as a copyeditor for completed articles that need a bit of revising afterwards. Me and others at the WP:Guild of Copyeditors would be happy to take a look at any articles you feel could do with some copyediting, whether it be up for GA nomination, FA nominations, DYK nominations, or just because. --Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝) 00:20, 9 March 2020 (UTC)

Someone mentioned about Dota 2
[edit]Hey Tenryuu, How are you? I have been playing Dota 2 from about 10 years now and started from Warcraft - Reign of chaos which later became Frozen Throne. Anyways, I would like to follow you. Can you please help me with my first article. I am afraid I would end up getting a penalty so its best if I get a mentor like you to help me with my first article. Thank you. - Junaidbusn170, you won't be penalised for proposing a draft for submission. The most that will happen is that your draft will be declined and/or rejected if it doesn't meet Wikipedia standards. I've continued our conversation at the Teahouse. --Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝) 21:56, 10 March 2020 (UTC)

rather than clutter up the Teahouse, Ill post here. I looked at your changes and the text that is in comments. I am a little surprised of how much is considered fluff. For example, that she is bilingual and bicultural is important because it allows her to organize such projects as she works with local authorities, masons, but the bulk of the donations and volunteer labor comes from the foreign population. Maybe the way I wrote it was not clear? I tagged the copyeditors' page. Thank youHicksW (talk) 20:35, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hi HicksW. The question (that uninvolved editors would answer best) is it important enough to be noted? Reading the source it's from it barely covers two or three sentences. It's a fine balance between deciding how much detail is too much detail for the article.
- Also, a word of caution: be really careful in paraphrasing, as checking the same source as above made me realise that a few lines were taken (or mildly paraphrased) from it, something that Wikipedia is sensitive to as it can potentially violate any copyrights the source holds. For more information see WP:PARAPHRASE. -- Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝) 21:09, 16 March 2020 (UTC)

Important message
[edit]Hi Tenryuu, thanks for the decision by not putting a specific building. Anyways, I was extremely crying over COVID-19 and I stay at since Wednesday. I have question for do you want to take a break editing Wikipedia over COVID-19? It's for you online safety. If you say yes to take a break from editing watch 24-hour cable news for the moment until an urgent breaking news story on new content surronding the pandemic. "If you say "no" to take a break, are you sure to continue editing? If you're sure to continue keep editing Wikipedia a hard as you can and when you log out use the anti-bacterial wipes to clean the mouse and the keyboard as well. I am giving you my own editing tips to make online safer. Thank you and good luck to you. 2001:569:74D2:A800:9514:1D74:AEDD:C8B7 (talk) 23:30, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

GOCE March newsletter
[edit]Guild of Copy Editors March 2020 Newsletter
Hello and welcome to the March newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since December 2019. All being well, we're planning to issue these quarterly in 2020, balancing the need to communicate widely with the avoidance of filling up talk pages. Don't forget you can unsubscribe at any time; see below. Election results: There was little changeover in the roster of Guild Coordinators, with Miniapolis stepping down with distinction as a coordinator emeritus while Jonesey95 returned as lead coordinator. The next election is scheduled for June 2020 and all Wikipedians in good standing may participate. January Drive: Thanks to everyone for the splendid work, completing 215 copy edits including 56 articles from the Requests page and 116 backlog articles from the target months of June to August 2019. At the conclusion of the drive there was a record low of 323 articles in the copy editing backlog. Of the 27 editors who signed up for the drive, 21 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. February Blitz: Of the 15 editors who signed up for this one-week blitz, 13 completed at least one copy edit. A total of 32 articles were copy edited, evenly split between the twin goals of requests and the oldest articles from the copy-editing backlog. Full results are here. March Drive: Currently underway, this event is targeting requests and backlog articles from September to November 2019. As of 18 March, the backlog stands at a record low of 253 articles and is expected to drop further as the drive progresses. Awards will be given to everyone who copyedits at least one article from the backlog. Help set a new record and sign up now! Progress report: As of 18 March, GOCE copyeditors have completed 161 requests in 2020 and there was a net reduction of 385 articles from the copy-editing backlog – a 60% decrease from the beginning of the year. Well done and thank you everyone! Election reminder: It may only be March but don't forget our mid-year Election of Coordinators opens for nominations on 1 June. Coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought of helping out at the Guild, or know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here. Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Baffle gab1978, Reidgreg, Tdslk and Twofingered Typist To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

Question:
[edit]- Dear Tenryuu,
I have one question. How can I change (or edit, so to speak) the thing at the top page? There are some things on there I would like to edit, and frankly, I don't know how to. I tried to just edit it, like you would with anything normal, but it doesn't work. Could you help, or direct me to someone who could? All it says is "talk page cool," all one word.
Thanks, and one other thing, there is a person who is being somewhat rude to me, I feel like, and i'm not sure if I should just delete what he wrote, or what? Could you give me some direction? Thanks,
Shadowblade08 (talk) 15:44, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- Shadowblade08, you can't change it as is because it's a template. You can always type in the search bar (
Template:Talkpagecool
), go to the template's source code, copy it over to your page, and tweak it. Do not edit the template code itself. - As to your second point, I suggest talking with that person on their talk page to work things out. Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝) 16:37, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks so much, Tenryuu. I did, but the only problem is that now its at the bottom of the page. Could you delete the one at the top of the page, and then make the one at the bottom of the page go to the top? If that doesn't make sense, then ask me for what you should do. I appreciate your help, so much. Thanks again!
- Shadowblade08 (talk) 23:33, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- Shadowblade08, just delete the template at the top and cut the code at the bottom and paste it up to the top. Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝) 23:48, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- Shadowblade08 (talk) 23:33, 2 April 2020 (UTC)

New Question
[edit]- Dear Tenryuu,
Thanks so much for all you've helped me with. I have a new question, and it is also on the topic of my talk page. Is it possible to take away the "show" and "hide" buttons at the top of the page? I read through the coding, and I couldn't find anything that matched up with either show or hide

CO-VID 19 question from Teahouse
[edit]Hi Tenryuu,
thanks for your quick reply on teahouse. (not sure how to reply to you on teahouse) so I am writing you directly here.
Are you suggesting that I should add my content as a subsection of the COVID-19 page? (Say section "COVID-19 Stats") Or should I start a new page and refer to it from within COVID-19 page?
Thanks for your help. Camille — Preceding unsigned comment added by Camillebatarekh (talk • contribs) 15:55, 3 April 2020 (UTC)

By convention, to show you're directly replying to someone you indent your comment with colons like I did here (additional colons indent more). - My question to you on the Teahouse was asked because the WikiProject I linked you to already has a page for reputable sources. Editing news 2020 #1 – Discussion tools
[edit]Read this in another language • Subscription list
The Editing team has been working on the talk pages project. The goal of the talk pages project is to help contributors communicate on wiki more easily. This project is the result of the Talk pages consultation 2019.
The team is building a new tool for replying to comments now. This early version can sign and indent comments automatically. Please test the new Reply tool.
- On 31 March 2020, the new reply tool was offered as a Beta Feature editors at four Wikipedias: Arabic, Dutch, French, and Hungarian. If your community also wants early access to the new tool, contact User:Whatamidoing (WMF).
- The team is planning some upcoming changes. Please review the proposed design and share your thoughts on the talk page. The team will test features such as:
- an easy way to mention another editor ("pinging"),
- a rich-text visual editing option, and
- other features identified through user testing or recommended by editors.
To hear more about Editing Team updates, please add your name to the "Get involved" section of the project page. You can also watch these pages: the main project page, Updates, Replying, and User testing.

Let's clean up the COVID-19 Current Consensus Items!
[edit]Hey Tenryuu, the new {{Current COVID-19 Project Consensus}} template is now live. Let's ensure the items in the template are in great shape so we don't spread confusion in all pages.
There are a couple of discussions on items of the list that need more editors to reach consensus quickly (they shouldn't be too contentious but we need more votes):
- Wikipedia talk:WikiProject COVID-19#Proposed change to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject COVID-19/Current consensus regarding the use of Current
- Wikipedia talk:WikiProject COVID-19#SARS-CoV-2 naming convention
Hope you can express your opinion for those changes!

Question
[edit]How is it possible to move a EMOJI thing to the middle of my talk page? Thanks.
Shadowblade08 (talk) 22:19, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
- Shadowblade08, you'll have to be more specific with what you want. Emoji are generally Unicode characters that can be inserted inline like this: 😗. There are browser extensions that allow users to copy and paste emoji into text. Wikipedia also has a template, {{Smiley}} (click on the link for its documentation and how to use it), which offers a set of smilies for editors to use. I will put a note of caution here by saying use them sparingly, as overuse can be seen as disruptive to other editors. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 22:48, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
OK, thanks, I guess I don't really mean the EMOJI. I mean, I have a sign thing on my talk page that says:
- "Please sign your posts with four tildes"
Or something like that. Anyway, all the other stuff on that page is in the center, and its off to the left, so I was wondering if I could move it into the center, so it wouldn't look weird.

- OK, i'll get rid of my small tags. What i'm trying to say, is that I have a sign that is a reminder... this is what it is:

OK, sorry, it was in a old tab that I accidentally closed before signing my name. And what do you mean by "Please refrain from adding a space before a new line because it creates a code line that isn't desired by many editors."? Sorry, but I don't know what you mean when you say "adding a space before a new line". Sorry.

[edit]I've been copying over articles that are on the military.wikia onto here and then a person named "Reguyla" told me how he was banned and so on and how he noticed that I was copying over articles onto Wikipedia. He then asked me to submit the articles that have been copied over to the AfD. I can tell you the exact words but I wanted to check with you if it was appropriate for this to be spoken here. - LucasA04, I was not here for the Reguyla debacle and would prefer not to open that can of worms. As far as I can tell, Fandom's licencing touches on attribution:
As a contributor, you agree that being attributed in any of the following fashions satisfies the attribution requirements of the license applicable to your contribution to a wiki: a) attribution through a hyperlink (where possible) or URL to the article or articles you contributed to, b) attribution through a hyperlink (where possible) or URL to an alternative, stable online copy which is freely accessible, which conforms with the license, and which provides credit to the authors in a manner equivalent to the credit given on this website, or c) attribution through a list of all authors. Any list of authors may be filtered to exclude very small or irrelevant contributions.
- and using Fandom content externally:

When re-using Fandom text that has been posted subject to a Creative Commons license, you must provide attribution to the authors using one of the attribution methods described in the section above titled “Attribution.”
Attribution example when re-using Fandom content on your own website:

[edit]Hi Tenryuu, I recently completed copy editing the article Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush and removed the copy edit, since this is the first time I'm participating in a drive I dont know how can I count the total words, are there any scripts which helps to count the total words? Antila (✉) 07:08, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
- Antila, thanks for taking part in the backlog drive! Yes, many editors use the Wikipedia:Prosesize gadget, which you can find in your Preferences under "Browsing"; it will appear in your sidebar as "Page size". We also take the count from before you start editing the article, so I'd go through the article's history to right before you started copy editing and click "Page size". —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 07:15, 13 May 2020 (UTC)

About the quality of edits
[edit]Hi Tenryuu, how are you? Sorry, I was down with fever and couldn't respond to the Teahouse discussion about good vs. okay edits in time before it was archived. I agree with you that it is easier to edit subsections, often long paragraphs, rather than the whole article. That's what I usually try to do. For smaller articles, I try to save different kind of edits separately - wikilinking, referencing, image inclusions, and so on. This brings me back to the original question: is referencing and article expansion considered better than, say, wikilinking? NawJee (talk) 23:30, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
- NawJee, good to hear from you again and I hope that you are feeling better. In regards to your question, I believe it depends on context: ideally the subject should be supported by external references, as we don't circularly cite other Wikipedia articles. I think of wikilinking as providing more context to the article that would take up too much space on its own. Is there a particular article you had in mind? —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 23:43, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you, I am much better now. No particular article in mind. But, I try to spend some time at the Community Portal and I was hoping to spend more of it where it matters the most. NawJee (talk) 00:28, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

Yuva Unstoppable
[edit]FYi I had placed the UPE template as they disclosed May 22, but edited Yuva Unstoppable a lot before then. I imagine you have checked the page so I'll leave your edit alone. Thanks.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 00:38, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
- ThatMontrealIP, I took a brief glance at the page, yes. I'm not familiar with protocol as to when UPE should be removed; I take it to mean that once all connected editors (paid or otherwise) have disclosed their affiliations/clients (and the template with links to their disclosure are provided is added to the talk page), the tag can be removed, and if another editor is suspected of being paid/connected without disclosing, the tag can be re-added. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 00:42, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
- tag says "UPE...page may need clean up", so it's an indicator of possible page quality issues as a result of UPE bias. It's not what you are saying. Think about it: if someone edits a page for a while, then we find out that they are UPE and they disclose, there is still the issue of checking the page to see if it is neutral. If we just remove the tag once they disclose, then the page may still have the problems that need checking. Just my 2 cents.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 00:47, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
- ThatMontrealIP, I see your point, but wouldn't the slew of multiple issues underneath such as {{advert}} and {{COI}} cover the finer details already? —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 00:50, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

D&D Comment
[edit]Hey Tenryuu,
The problem I have with the updates is The Cleric, Priest, or Bishop is a character class in Dungeons & Dragons and other fantasy role-playing games. The cleric is a healer, but is also very capable with fighting with domains like zeal or war. They are usually a priest and a holy warrior, and were originally modeled on or inspired by the Military Orders. Clerics are usually members of religious orders, with the original intent being to portray soldiers of sacred orders who have magical abilities, although this role was later taken more clearly by the paladin. Most clerics have powers to heal wounds, protect their allies and sometimes resurrect the dead, as well as summon, manipulate and banish undead.
I feel it should be:

- @Galendalia: Your suggestion for the sentence with domains is good, but not the sentence right after. The focus is on the class referred to as Cleric, not priest (per 5e lingo) or holy warrior, notwithstanding the unnecessary comma in the middle. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 19:25, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Tenryuu, Whew! I had to go to youtube to learn how to post this message! I hope you will be kind and read the comments Sam-2727 left on my submission. In your Teahouse reply, you agreed I should use "depict" but what I want to know is, is there language other than "explores the topic of environmental racism and its effects on poor people living in the South," that should be changed? If so, please point it out so I can get it all in this next submission. I appreciate your help.Draft:Najee_DorseyClairCarol (talk) 20:40, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
- ClairCarol, hello again. Reading Sam-2727's comment I agree partially with their evaluation, as there are some areas that read like something one would find in a brochure. I would be careful of your list in the Career section:
His art combines [...] socioeconomic conditions of the South.
- Replace the comma in
[...] provides access and exposure to black art and artists, facilitating connections [...]
with "and". "Facilitating" should become "facilitates" to reflect the change. - An alternative to "explores the topic" in the sentence you quoted is "focuses on the theme" for a more specific descriptor. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 23:13, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Hello Tenryuu, is it possible to talk to just one host in wikipedia, it's so confusing to talk to few people at the same time, I have included many sources for Bahman Tavoosi including IMBD and many festivals and interviews, why the new edit is not approved and why subject to deletion then? - @Joyab: Generally, no, unless you're posting on their talk page like this (though this doesn't stop some friendly page watchers from responding). If you're looking for someone to discuss this with it's better to try asking one of the other Teahouse hosts, as although I know the basics about notability and acceptable reliable sources, I'm much more focused on copy editing and tone policing. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 03:18, 30 May 2020 (UTC).
