Instructor feedback for article draft

[edit]

The draft is a good first start overall. I encourage you to move your work into the existing Conflict Management Style Wikipedia article after you do some revisions. Here are some suggestions as you work on revising your article.

The lead section has some good overall ideas, such as managing conflict is crucial to organizations. However, given that this is a relational communication course, I encourage you to focus your article on conflict management in close relationships. The source in this first paragraph is from "Radiology Management." I suggest using sources within the field of communication studies. The lead section also needs to define and describe what conflict management styles are. There is no description of what the concept is, which is key for the lead section of a Wiki article.

The background section needs to be narrowed to focus just on conflict management styles, not the general concept of conflict management. The information in this section is to broad to be useful. Look into who were some of the theorists and developers of conflict styles (Thomas and Kilmann are a place to start).

The styles of conflict management section has good content, but the examples and descriptions should be referencing conflict styles in close relationships rather than in organizations.

The steps to managing conflict section needs elaboration and a grounding in communication studies theory and research. Also, this section deviates a bit from the topic of conflict styles. Remember that these Wiki articles are fairly narrowly focused. It might be better to replace this section with a discussion of the various models for conflict styles. There are quite a few.

The studies section could shift in focus to close relationships research within in the field of communication studies. There is a lot to draw from. I think rather than summarizing each study from one study to another, try to synthesize findings across studies and organize by topic area, such as cross-cultural studies, specific relational phenomena, etc.

The critique section provides some good examples about how using certain conflict styles may or may not be effective for solving a particular conflict. However, the focus of the critique should be directed at conflict styles theorizing and research. For example, are conflict styles more trait-like or state-like? What are the implications of taking each perspective? Remember to use proper APA style throughout. The references are not in accurate APA style. You will likely need to manually edit the citations as opposed to using Wikipedia's citation tool to automatically cite a source. Jrpederson (talk) 14:18, 10 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
