Arabian horse
Hi Taylor Lane, and welcome to Wikipedia. I have reverted your edits to the Arabian horse article for a few reasons. First, we are working on getting the article to WP:FA status, which means that everything has to be sourced. Second, you added the same wording in two different places in the article, which is duplicative and unnecessary. Third, buckskins are not generally mixed up with bays - they are completely different visually and genetically. Even if true, this is not really the place for this information - it is an article specifically on the Arabian horse, not on colors of horses, and the Arabian article is too long already. Please do not re-add this information to the article, and if you would like to continue further discussion on this topic, please post to the article talk page, rather than simply re-adding the information. If you have any questions, please let me know. Dana boomer (talk) 00:10, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
Article on Authentic
Hi Taylor, the number one thing is to show why the horse is WP:NOTABLE. After you cross that threshold, I find that copying the best of the best is a good way to do an article, especially clicking on "edit this page" and stealing the templates and syntax (but not screwing up the good article in the process). Or, sometimes, I model on the mediocre articles because it's easier! LOL! To that end, I suggest you compare your efforts against the following articles and use them as examples. 1) The best of the best, a featured article that has appeared on the main page, a biography of the Quarter Horse racehorse Go Man Go. A short, sketchy, but good enough article on a horse that competed at the olympics, Winsome Andante, or a middle of the road article, not great, but a bit more fleshed out, is Theodore O'Connor. Two I did that are also in the "middle of the road" category are Skowronek and Khemosabi, which are of some interest because I had to do fair use tags on copyrighted images, which is a bit more complicated than the usual "find something free on Commons" approach to images. Hope this helps! Montanabw(talk) 20:37, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia! I saw that you are up for adoption. I would be happy to adopt you and give you a helping hand. Would you like me to adopt you? The Arbiter★★★ 22:22, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, by the way, a while ago I created a userbox that you might be interested in. Try adding {{User:The Arbiter/UBX/Taylor Swift}} to your page. :) The Arbiter★★★ 22:24, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
thanks! yes please, i created a page called User: Taylor Lane/Authentic (horse) please help with that....thanks a lot!!
- Here's some advice. First of all, when posting on talk pages, always sign your messages with ~~~~. That's very important. Second, if you want to indent, you use colons. The more colons, the more indent. I'll take a look at the article! The Arbiter★★★ 22:42, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry, I'll get to that as soon as possible...been busy around the holiday season. The Arbiter★★★ 21:00, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Stuff to use in articles
Hi Taylor, the easiest way to learn to edit is to swipe formatting from good articles that do it right (click on "edit this page" and then copy the syntax to your sandbox -- without accidentally editing anything, of course!) To find out more info on Authentic, I put a whole bunch of sources down at the bottom of your sandbox page, I'd just start reading those and see what you can find. Also Googling the events themselves can get you info. Keep in mind that Authentic is a show jumper, not an eventer, so I presume he WASN'T at the Rolex, which is a three-day event, not a show jumping competition...
Ahem: To do simple references use the ref tags. <ref>Footnoted stuff between ref tags</ref> will automatically put the little footnote number into the text and also the full footnote at the bottom or wherever you stick a {{reflist}} tag. Citation can get pretty detailed on the top articles, see WP:CITE for details, but for the basics, just getting enough into in so that someone else can find the source is the minimum...title, author, a web link if there is one, etc... If you try a few, I can occasionally pop by and clean them up and you can just compare what was done. Montanabw(talk) 05:54, 25 December 2009 (UTC)
ok, so u said he wasnt in the Rolex. he was. Well, I copied this from the article on Beezie - During the 2008 Rolex Events in Las Vegas, Authentic threw Beezie into the jump, and later got disqualified from the entire event. Proof enough? *dream on*dance on* 21:40, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
- Taylor, Rolex is a watch company that sponsors a lot of stuff. THE "Rolex" is the 3-day event in Kentucky, see Rolex Kentucky Three Day. So here, they are referring to a different competition, also sponsored by Rolex, I presume the FEI Show Jumping World Cup, which is often held in Las Vegas and is currently also sponsored by Rolex (used to be sponsored by Volvo). It sounds like people are starting to also call the World Cup the "Rolex" also, though the 3-day has the longer history with the commercial sponsor. So best be careful to clarify the actual show and note the terminology you use. You are on the right track here, but you have to remember that there are a number of different international events out there, different types of competition. and Rolex sponsors a lot of horse stuff. Montanabw(talk) 21:54, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
ok, thank you.....I was thinking when it said events it meant eventing....*dream on*dance on* 21:56, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, it's tricky, because we so often refer to almost anything as an "event" (Lots of post-Christmas "sales events" right now, lol!), while in the horse world, Eventing is a specific "event." Lots of lingo to trip up a person. :-P But feel free to drop me a line any time you have other thoughts or questions, I'll try to point you at stuff you can use. Montanabw(talk) 22:33, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Taylor, to answer your question, see the bit of my earlier answer above I just broke out and expanded a bit. If that's not what you need to know, just drop me a more specific question (and don't forget to sign your posts using four tildes ( ~ ) Montanabw(talk) 21:18, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

- Good for you! I tossed in the edits I had made in the sandbox after you went live...I went ahead and kept two external links, one because it's to Iron Spring Farm, and the other because we may later need to add it, who knows...one or two won't hurt anything. About your signature
Taylor, it is important that in your signature, you have a link to your user page and one to your talk page. That way, people know who you are. That's also why SineBot has been giving you those messages. I have modified it, so please use this as your signature.
[[user:Taylor Lane|*dream on*]][[user talk:Taylor Lane|dance on*]]
This will create this: *dream on*dance on*
The reason "dance on" is black and bold is because it links to your talk page, which is the page you are on. It is VERY important that you use a signature that links to your page. If you want to make your sig look cooler, you can find a tutorial here. Cheers, The Arbiter★★★ 00:49, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Authentic
Not a bad start for an article. Here's what I think. You definitely need more info, but I think you know that... If you integrate some of the information from the links given you, I think you have a possibly decent article. When you want to move it to the mainspace, ask me to check it again. Keep up the good work! The Arbiter★★★ 22:42, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

- Taylor, I did some tweaking on your page, if you can't figure out what I did, just ask. I left a note there. I'd say that with a touch more cleanup, the article is probably close to prime time (good work on the pedigree!), but ask Arbiter to look it over too. You may want to incorporate the articles from The Horse to add more info, but there probably isn't a lot more you can do at this point, as Authentic is a gelding and still has some good years left to compete. Don't know if you can find anything about his sire or dam that is of interest, or if he has famous relatives, the only other thing I can think to add is if there is any kind of special drama about him -- overcoming an injury, saving children from a burning barn (LOL), jumping over the Empire State Building (LOL again) etc... I don't know of anything offhand, he's probably had a pretty normal life for a champion show jumper! (grin) Montanabw(talk) 06:40, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
- It isn't required, but one other thing to do is to see if you can find a FREE (i.e. not copyrighted) image of Authentic to use. It may be tough to find one that isn't copyrighted. But first look in Wikimedia commons (if something is there, it's already been determined to be free to use on wikipedia). What you are looking for are NOT photos from newspapers or web sites with copyright, but rather stuff like an amateur photo someone took of Beezie and Authentic at a competition and uploaded somewhere like Flickr. Finding free images is a pain in the behind, and there are some ways to get around the rule, but look first for stuff that is identified with a copyright that is "public domain", "creative commons" (abbreviated "cc" with a number after it, like "cc-2.0") or "GDFL". If you find something you think you can use, drop me a note with the URL to the image and I'll let you know if it's OK. (Wikipedia is pretty anal-retentive about images, so it will probably be a challenge...) Montanabw(talk) 06:40, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
Follow up: I found some rather poor quality images on Commons, one was of Authentic and Beezie and I stuck it into the article. There are some better ones on Flickr at this search, but they are not released for commercial use, so could not be uploaded to commons. They MIGHT fall under the exception for upload onto Wikipedia, but I'm not certain and perhaps Arbiter could help you with this... good luck. Montanabw(talk) 07:39, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
thanks for the pic....ill look 4 more, but i have a feeling thats the best im gonna get!! thanks for the help, i tossed the acheivements section. it was pretty redundant.....so do you have anything in The Horse article you think I should include?? Im reading in now and I dont see any different stuff, maybe should I include some info on like what he got in the Olympics and stuff........not sure where Id put that though....anyway, I think I'll add it as an article soon as I get some input from the Arbiter, do you think it's ready? Thanks SO much for all the priceless help!! I REALLY appreciate it!!! Thanx! *dream on*dance on* 02:44, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
- Basically, because of the publisher's reputation, anything out of The Horse is going to be considered more credible than stuff from equisearch (which tends to be sort of ad-driven), so where is duplicates, I'd cite to The Horse. There are at least 6 or 7 articles in that search link I provided that may contain useful tidbits. I'll do a little surfing and see if there are things to add, if you like what you see, feel free to dig a little more. I think the article can go live any time now, and nothing will keep us from editing it more once it's out of the sandbox. Montanabw(talk) 05:25, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
i went live!! *dream on*dance on* 05:36, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
i got a pic off flickr.......it said - copyright: some rights reserved....and that means what?? ☆dream on☆dance on☆ 00:05, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
- That means Commons won't take it, but you sometimes can use it on wikipedia itself, read WP:IMAGE. The copyright stuff is a total pain in the butt to sort out. Montanabw(talk) 20:06, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
Meanie...
I was gonna compliment you on your article, but then you had to get all practical jokey on me and make me think I had a message so now you're just a jerk... JK nice work kid. - unfortunately, no. I think someone's already removed it. The Arbiter★★★ 01:54, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
Arbiter is correct. You may not use copyrighted imagery outside of the article namespace. See WP:NFCC #9. --Hammersoft (talk) 14:01, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
ok ☆dream on☆dance on☆ 18:54, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
- And with that, welcome to the minefield of WP:IMAGES. :-P There is a whole separate art to it. Short version: If it's in Commons, it's OK. If you took it all by yourself and uploaded to commons (and they didn't toss it), it's also OK. Everything else is more complicated. Not always impossible, but more complicated! Montanabw(talk) 20:20, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
this sounds dumb, but are the commons?? Ive tried to find them, but i cant. or is it not a thing, but just uploading to anything is considered "commons". im confused. Sorry, I'm dumb!!! ☆dream on☆dance on☆ 02:27, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
- Not a dumb question! Wikimedia Commons ( http://commons.wikimedia.org ) is an affiliated project, the repository for photos, video and sound clips that can be used in any other wikimedia foundation project (like wikis in other languages as well as here in English wiki.) It's best to upload stuff there so it can be used all over the world, not just on English wiki. However, they are also the fussiest about making sure an image placed there is really a free image with no copyright restrictions. The good news is any image you find there is already "legal" for wikipedia. The bad news is that if you find a cool image that you didn't take yourself and are trying to upload it to commons (from someplace like Flickr, for example), it's a real pain to find images that have the proper copyright release already...heck, I even got in trouble for a photo I DID take myself because it was of a license plate (which had copyrighted art, sigh), and I wound up only able to use it on wikipedia as a Fair Use image ( file:AppyPlate.jpg if you care). But on the other hand, I have used my own camera to take a lot of photos for illustrations where there was one needed (for example, File:HooksAndBootjack.jpg or File:3_Bosals.jpg ) Montanabw(talk) 04:20, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, the copyright rules here are pretty crazy and confusing… The Arbiter★★★ 17:47, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Survey
Hi Taylor Lane!
I have put together a survey for female editors of Wikipedia (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!
It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!
Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!
Any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or stop by my user talk page. Also, feel free to share this any other female Wikimedians you may know. It is in English, but any language Wikimedia participants are encouraged to participate. I appreciate your contributions - to the survey and to Wikipedia! Thank you! Re: TwiHards
Well what you need is some notable sources. Sounds like you have some, but you'll need to add them into the article before I can really tell if the page will stand up on its own. It might not be enough for its own page, but should instead be incorporated into a section on the Twilight (series) page. Too soon to tell. If I were you, I would probably use the Harry Potter fandom article as a reference point for fandom-based pages (though that article needs some cleanup). I will keep an eye on your page if you continue adding to it, and I could even make minor edits to it if you don't mind. Andrea (talk) 23:48, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
Yes, I would appreciate you keeping an eye on it!! I haven't really done anything to it, I've only got like one paragraph! haha... I'll find sources, don't worry... I've written articles before, I wrote this one... Thanks again!!! (:--TaylorLanebore me 20:54, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
