[edit]Hello Tarkus! How're you doing? Hey, i know you're busy but i need help in regards to Valis I. This issue of the Japanese MSX magazine states that the game was released on November (https://ia601205.us.archive.org/19/items/MSXMagazine-Japan/MsxMagazine198612.pdf), but since i don't know japanese i have a feeling that i might have screwed up the release date of the MSX version. Everybody says that the MSX, PC-88 and X1 versions were released simultaneously in December so, i seeked your help once more to see if that release date is erroneous or is correct. Roberth Martinez (talk) 02:01, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
- @KGRAMR: Hi, yes on page 161 it says 11月26日発売予定 which means "planned sale date 11/26". I suppose it's possible it could have been delayed, but I doubt it. TarkusABtalk/contrib 03:42, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
- @TarkusAB: Thanks! So, we basically have a Rayman 1 situation in our hands (i.e. the game was originally made for Jaguar before the PlayStation version was announced and released a week prior to the PlayStation version). Roberth Martinez (talk) 21:24, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
- @TarkusAB: Hey there, I hope you're doing well! Look, recently i've recently nominated Valis: The Fantasm Soldier into GA status so if you want to review that article to see what is needed to be reworked/fixed, then you're welcomed! Roberth Martinez (talk) 01:13, 30 April 2023 (UTC)

Hey Tarkus! How are you doing? Look, i started a draft for the Microcabin RPG Illusion City but i was wondering if after the Valis I GA review, you could help me with the Japanese reviews on the reception section for that potential article? I completed the release section and i can handle the development section, but any help with the reception section is appreciated! I hope you're having a good day :D Roberth Martinez (talk) 19:13, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
- @KGRAMR: Yes, I would love to help. Are there specific reviews you have all in the draft? TarkusABtalk/contrib 22:30, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
- @TarkusAB:These are the specific reviews that i have on my draft:
- https://archive.org/details/MSX_Magazine_1992-05_ASCII_JP/page/n21/mode/1up (MSX Turbo R review)
- https://retrocdn.net/index.php?title=File:BeepMD_JP_1993-06.pdf&page=24 (Sega Mega-CD review)
- https://retrocdn.net/index.php?title=File:DengekiMD_JP_03.pdf&page=32 (Sega Mega-CD review)

- https://archive.org/details/OhX1990-1995/Oh%21X_1993-07/page/n42/mode/1up (X68000 review)
- Those are pretty much the reviews that i need help with. Roberth Martinez (talk) 23:01, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
- @TarkusAB:Hey there! How're you doing pal? Look, since you finished the GA review for Valis, you can help me with the reviews for Illusion City at anytime. In the meantime, i'm currently working in my sandbox on a rewrite and expansion of the Brutal Sports Football article. Take care :D Roberth Martinez (talk) 01:21, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @KGRAMR:, these are quite long reviews. Translating them all in their entirety would be an immense task. What I can do is skim through them and translate any passages that seem interesting. Is that ok? TarkusABtalk/contrib 02:45, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
- @TarkusAB:Yeah, no problem! That works for me too :D Roberth Martinez (talk) 21:56, 18 May 2023 (UTC)

MSX Magazine
- The first two paragraphs are all about Microcabin and the MSX, nothing to do with the game.
- Reviewer says they've never seen an RPG of this size on the MSX, and comments that even the developer said "this game could only be made for the turbo R"
- Reviewer is impressed by the graphics, and gives an example about how this one time a character got into a car, and there was an animation to bring up a shot of the car interior onto the screen. The reviewer was impressed.
- It's the kind of game that will pick up a cult following
- Reviewer is concerned that there is a lot of small text that can appear on the screen that may be difficult to discern on some video monitors
Mega CD Fami
- directed like a movie
- lots of praise of graphics, character animations
- it's made to let you enjoy the store more than the battle system
- scenario is great, you'll enjoy getting involved more in the scenario than completing the objective(s). cool futuristic Hong Kong-like city.
- diagnoal movement smooth
- weak RPG elements
Beep MD (Mega CD)
- one reviewer had previously played it on the PC and remembered it being an engrossing setting, and felt that came into this version too. They did say that the battles and event scenes can be a little...unfriendly as it is a PC game. They recommended it to people who like Michitaka Kikuchi (a manga artist).
- One review didn't find the game very polished. And felt as a PC Game inherently, that it can't really be enjoyed for the general public
- Another review said that having seen Snatcher, this doesn't look so good in comparison. It's dated. The battle and movement screens are not so great. A lot of things are difficult to understand.
- It tries to break from conventional RPGs, but it's a little difficult to see and understand all the details on the screen. Scenario (story) is so-so. However, the game is cheap (price), so that's good.
Oh! X (X68000)
- This isn't so much a review as just an explanation of the game. He's playing the X68000 version and he does say it runs slower than the PC-9801 version. He says the text moves slower.
- The rating scores top to bottom are: story and setting, graphics, sound, game speed
Dengeki MD (Mega CD)
- Reviewers seem to really harp on the fact that the game was originally designed for PC and it shows. It doesn't translate well to console. There are lots of small details on the screen that are actually difficult to see and understand.
- More like an Adventure game than RPG. Big map, lots of searching for things and people in the environment instead of battling. Good story but it's a bit sluggish.
- A couple reviewers pointed out that the screen scrolling isn't smooth at all. Very jittery.
- @TarkusAB:Done with the MSX Magazine review! Roberth Martinez (talk) 00:58, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
- I am not finished. I will ping you when I finish. TarkusABtalk/contrib 01:01, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
- @KGRAMR: I think I'm finished. The biggest running them I was finding in the reviews were issues about the display and size of things on screen. A lot of reviewers were finding it difficult to read details on the screen, and keep track of everything going on, because there's quite a lot of small details on the screen. This can be understood watching YouTube playthroughs, it is quite obvious how small elements on the screen are. And if playing on some smaller resolution sets, I imagine it can be incredibly difficult to understand a lot of the text. Another thing was that the Mega CD reviewers really felt this was a PC game, and not really good for consoles. I think big reason of this was because of the interface and the size of text. PC games at this time tended to be more "complicated" and "detailed" than the more "casual" console games. However, most of these reviews were Mega CD. Hard to say if people had the same opinions about the PC version. TarkusABtalk/contrib
- @TarkusAB:So that's why the Mega CD version garnered mixed reviews from critics. Well, at least we know why. Thank you so much for your help buddy :D Roberth Martinez (talk) 21:48, 29 May 2023 (UTC)
- @TarkusAB:Hello there! How've you been lately? Look, sorry for bothering you in case you're busy but i recently started looking for articles about The Wing of Madoola for a possible rewrite in the future. So, i needed some help in determining what is this article about in this issue of Famimaga talking about the game (https://archive.org/details/family-computer-magazine-issue-24-december-5th-1986/Family%20Computer%20Magazine%20-%20Issue%2024%20-%20December%205th%201986%20%28Compressed%29/page/90/mode/1up) Is it a preview or a review? Thanks :D (P.S. - Also, can you determine what this article about Madoola is about too? https://archive.org/details/Action_Gameside_Vol.B/page/n91/mode/2up) Roberth Martinez (talk) 02:08, 14 August 2023 (UTC)
- @TarkusAB:Hello there! Hey, i hope you're safe where you life. I've seen the stuff about Hawaii and i hope you and your family are safe! I really mean it. I know it's very inappropiate asking you translation help given the situation where you are, but i need help with translating these reviews for Wing of Madoola: https://archive.org/details/no.-016-1987-02-06/page/n64/mode/1up & https://retrocdn.net/index.php?title=File:Famitsu_JP_014.pdf&page=11 I'm not asking for them right now, but only when the situation where you are is finally put down to rest. - @KGRAMR: Thank you for your kind wishes, Roberth. Thankfully I am on the island of Oʻahu so was not affected directly by the fires. If I find time to translate I will, but recently I have been busy with off-wiki stuff, and improving Joe Camel for a GAR, so I don't have time to translate at this time. What I can tell you is the first link in your previous message is a preview, but the second is a developer interview. TarkusABtalk/contrib 03:08, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
- @TarkusAB:Hey there comrade! How're you doing? Look, i was browsing this issue of Comptiq magazine (https://archive.org/details/comptiq-vol.-27-february-1987/Comptiq%20-%20Vol.%2027%20February%201987/page/n41/mode/2up) until i came across with this article about a game based on Gall Force, which includes the staff members. I don't know if you're available to translate their names but i would be cool to pinpoint who they are. I hope you're doing well. Take care :D Roberth Martinez (talk) 02:43, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
- @KGRAMR:It's hard to guess Japanese names. Names can have different spellings even with the same kanji. A few I could match up using Moby Games for reference were.
- First from left Masashi Kato (Microcabin)
- Third from left Hiroshi Imanishi (Hummingbird)
- Fifth from left Tatsuya Ishii (System Sacom)
- Sixth from left Masaharu Ono (Thinking Rabbit)
- The little messages next to their faces aren't of any importance. Just like "please enjoy the game" type stuff. Next to their names it says the company name. It seems there were a lot of developers who helped make this game, or maybe handled ports, because I see a lot of different companies represented here (Microcabin, System Sacom, Crystal Soft, Bothtech, BPS(?), System Soft) TarkusABtalk/contrib 17:56, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- @TarkusAB:Awesome! Those are certainly interesting names in the gaming industry. Thanks a lot! If their photos are missing at MobyGames, i'm gonna make sure to credit you for identifying them :D Roberth Martinez (talk) 21:53, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

@KGRAMR:
- Masashi Kato (Microcabin)
- ? (Bothtech)
- Hiroshi Imanishi (Humming Bird)
- Kazuya Takahashi (BPS i.e. Bullet-Proof Software Inc.)
- Tatsuya Ishii (System Sacom)
- Masaharu Ono (Thinking Rabbit)
- Osamu Onodera (Bothtech)
- Chihiro Fujioka (Xtalsoft)
- ? (System Sacom)
- ? (Xtalsoft)
- ? (System Soft)
- Kimio Kamata (Microcabin)
This is as confident as I could get. The others I couldn't match up to anyone in Moby Games, and Japanese names can be spelled several different ways. If you're looking for these people at Moby Games, you need to make sure you pick the right person because there are many people with the same names as these. Just check their companies. - @TarkusAB:Good evening. I hope you're doing well! I noticed your (quite frankly) excellent work on WikiProject VG's Reference library. I was going to rework the page of homebrew games for the Atari Jaguar but i could lend some help by adding some more magazines i've used through the years into the library. What do you think? :) Roberth Martinez (talk) 19:30, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- @KGRAMR: Yes, feel free to add more magazines to the list. I still need to go back and add links on each row to RetroCDN, Amiga Magazine Rack, SMS Power, etc. I also need to add a lot of missing magazines like Saturn magazines, PC Engine Fan, stuff like that. You do not need to create the subpages (e.g.(like this one) e.g. unless you want to list out the individual games/reviews found in each issue. You can just do what I did with Neo Geo Freak. Regarding a potential Valis GA review
[edit]@TarkusAB:Hey there! How have you been these days? Look sorry for bothering your right now in case you're busy but i wanted to let you know that i plan to nominate Valis II to be a potential GA in the future. I'll do it once i'm done with some Jaguar articles like Cybermorph and BattleSphere, among others articles i have in the pipeline to make so if you are interested in reviewing it, i'll let you know beforehand. Have a great day! Roberth Martinez (talk) 00:24, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- @KGRAMR: yes if I am available at the time you nominate it, I can review it. Hope you are doing well. TarkusABtalk/contrib 00:35, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- @TarkusAB:Cool! Hey, speaking of GA candidates, are you interested in doing a GA review an Atari Jaguar game? I recently finished my work on BattleSphere and i plan to make a GA nomination for it. If you're interested then let me know :D Roberth Martinez (talk) 19:55, 29 July 2023 (UTC)
- @TarkusAB:Hey there! I finally submitted BattleSphere for GA so if you're interested, the nomination is open :) Roberth Martinez (talk) 17:20, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
- @TarkusAB:Hello, i hope you're doing well? Look, i'm currently working on rewriting The Wing of Madoola article on my personal sandbox. I don't know if you're interested it, but i plan to take it to GA status so, let me know if you're interested in reviewing it once i'm done with the rewrite. Take care :D Roberth Martinez (talk) 23:36, 1 September 2023 (UTC)
- @KGRAMR: Hi Roberth. If I have time when it is complete, I will review. I can't make any promises as I have competing priorities in real life, but I do check WP:GAN#VG periodically to see if there is anything available I am interested in reviewing. If it's listed and I can review, I will, otherwise I'm sure someone else will pick it up. However, I will give you this one tip. If you ever are working on multiple article drafts at a time, you can create your own user subpages to work on the drafts, instead of always relying on the sandbox. I have found this very useful. For example, you could work on The Wing of Madoola at User:KGRAMR/Madoola until you are finished. When you're done, just copy/paste the source code over the live article. You can then choose to either keep the draft page around if you want, or delete it by just tagging it with {{Db-u1}}. I have found this to be convenient when working on drafts for multiple articles at the same time. TarkusABtalk/contrib 00:11, 2 September 2023 (UTC)
- @TarkusAB:OK then. Thanks for the advice though! It will serve me well with my other future Jaguar rewrites :D Roberth Martinez (talk) 00:13, 2 September 2023 (UTC)

Re: Clockwise
[edit]Just want to point out that clockwise captions are not standard. The two choices for "island" style captions are to use terms such as above, below, top, bottom, left, right, OR clockwise. Since it wasn't originally setup as clockwise, it's unusual that it was changed to clockwise. Default practice is to stick with the first design choice, but I have no preference. However, I don't examine images in a clockwise manner anywhere on Wikipedia, and in books, when the image island caption design is used, it rarely uses the clockwise format. Just my observation. - @Viriditas: You can change it. The last edit I made was only because the caption said the descriptions were in clockwise order, but alas they were not. TarkusABtalk/contrib 02:51, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
- No need. Someone changed it to clockwise. I thought it might have been you. I’m actually more curious about the graphic design question in general than I am in how it is used in the article. I get curious like that. Viriditas (talk) 02:58, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Viriditas: I set it to clockwise when I changed out the image collage that was there before with the current multi-image template. What I find it that the options other than clockwise are not that great. You'd have to say "From top to bottom, left to right", though that doesn't make the order super clear. Or label each description "top-left", "bottom-left", etc. Or you could say "Top Row: (L) image a (R) image b" followed by "Bottom Row: (L) image c (R) image d", but those options are all more words. Clockwise is the most succinct and the order is explicit. Also I was going to make it 6 images, which clockwise is really the only good choice, but ended up with 4 and didn't bother changing the caption. TarkusABtalk/contrib 04:13, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
- It makes sense to me, but I'm hoping you can add this material to a MOS or essay on captions. Not sure where it would go since I couldn't find anything. If you don't want to do that, maybe I could figure something out and you could sign off on it? Otherwise, have at it. There should be a way to document this somewhere so that if it comes up again, we can point people to it. Viriditas (talk) 09:08, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
