Bonjour

Merci beaucoup (exhausts French...) I start the day by rolling through the autobiography and large unwikified filters, then CSD-spam. Always good for a few pre-breakfast indefs and deletes (: 07:11, 15 November 2012 (UTC)— Preceding unsigned comment added by Jimfbleak (talkcontribs)

Indeed! I find copyvios to be the most fun myself, in terms of single criteria, but the best are the weird combinations - yesterday I gave an A10/G3, A1/G10, and A1/G11 for three very weird articles. You deleted the A1/G11, actually! (As you can see, I get kind of creepily nerdy about CSDs. I've been thinking of writing an essay on proper CSD tagging.)Francophonie&Androphilie (Je vous invite à me parler) 07:21, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
I like the articles which are copyright and spam written under a company username so I can throw in an indef block too Jimfbleak - talk to me? 10:29, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
I gotta say, COI-usernames are, for whatever reason, quite possibly the field in which one can expect the quickest admin responses. Generally if I shoot a user a warning for it, check their contributions for any other self-promotion, refresh the article once for good measure, and then check my watchlist, the first entry is a block log notification.Francophonie&Androphilie (Je vous invite à me parler) 10:36, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

Haha yes, it could easily be misconstrued if someone doesn't read the message, just the title. James086Talk 12:41, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

G1 declined

Hey, F&A! Just wanted to let you know that I've declined the G1 (patent nonsense) tag you put on Instalacion configuracion ardence 4.1. I don't have an excellent command of Spanish myself, but with a little help from Google Translate, it looks like a coherent how-to guide for setting up a computer program. Patent nonsense is generally only for random strings of letters or words (as in word salad, not just poorly-written prose), and definitely doesn't include foreign-language articles. CSD is generally narrowly interpreted, so when in doubt, it's better to not use a speedy deletion tag.

No worries, though! It definitely is a candidate for deletion, since Wikipedia doesn't do how-to guides, so I took off your tag and put a PROD tag on with that concern. No big deal; just wanted to let you know for future reference. Thanks! Writ Keeper 16:06, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

As I noted on the talk page, the G1 was more for the fact that it seemed utterly nonsensical, but I'll confess it seems I didn't take as good a look at the Google Translate results as I should have. So thanks for keeping my overkill in check, though, really, it's times like this where I feel like we need another CSD, though I'm not sure what it should be - the French Wikipedia modified A2 to apply to all foreign-language articles, and I can see the rationale there à la WP:CIR, perhaps.
Sorry. I'm rambling. More importantly, our Spanish friend has unPRODded, and I've, in response, put it up for AfD. Be sure to endorse!Francophonie&Androphilie (Je vous invite à me parler) 16:15, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
Yep, I saw; I actually edit-conflicted with you nominating it for deletion, which made a whole mess. :P Anyway, I went to the real thing and !voted. I don't know about the French Wikipedia, but I think the logic about foreign-language articles is that, given how big enwiki is, and how spread-out the userbase is, there's a pretty good chance that we have people that can translate the article. Obviously not important in this case, but I think that's the logic for not having a general foreign-language criterion. Anyway, like I said, it's not a big deal either way; AfD will run its course, and no real harm done. :) Writ Keeper 16:32, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
Quite so. Wasn't saying we necessarily should adopt that criterion. Just an interesting idea. And haha, yes, I noticed. Same thing happened to me the other day, actually. Twinkle... such a love/hate relationship. My fault, though, for having dawdled in my response... though no harm done in this case, either, of course, and nothing like the occasional edit conflict to keep the blood pumping!Francophonie&Androphilie (Je vous invite à me parler) 16:37, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

Unwarranted accusation of vandalism

You reverted my edit of David_Suzuki:_The_Autobiography with the notation that it was vandalism. The edits consisted of inserting a space between No. and a numeral, removal of a redundant template, and a spelling change of "labeled" to "labelled". If this constitutes vandalism then I'm a horned toad with pig lips. Your notaion may have been accidental, but certainly not appreciated. Modal Jig (talk) 23:19, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

  • Hello Modal Jig. From what I see Francophonie&Androphilie was trying to add back this but accidently overwrite your contribution that was made 2 minutes before. Hope that helps. -- Cheers, Riley Huntley 23:26, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
  • Hi, Modal. I did not mean to characterize your edit as vandalism. In fact, I was not even aware you had made an edit: I was reverting vandalism that had occurred several edits before and had been overlooked; at the time that I had last refreshed the history page before reverting to my old revision, the most recent edit was User:Mutt Lunker's. Mutt (who was, assuredly, not vandalizing either) had cleaned up some damage from a preceding unexplained removal, but had failed to notice that this removal had occurred (i.e. he thought he was dealing with a simple copy edit, when in reality the reason for the grammar error was that an IP had deleted a chunk of the intro). The point is, because this was a rather complex situation (vandalism by two accounts, partially reverted by two other accounts), I took a minute or two to flip through the diffs to make sure I was causing no collateral damage. Ironically, it was this caution that created the problem, since if I'd restored the last good version earlier, I wouldn't have reverted your wholly constructive changes in doing so. I apologize for not re-checking history before clicking "restore"; I know better than to save a revision without making sure all of my revision-history information is up to date.
That said, I also owe you and the other editors an apology for an unclear edit summary. I should have written something like "removing vandalism already partially reverted" or "removing vandalism by two IPs, along with partial reverts by User:Altaïr and User:Mutt Lunker" - or anything else that would have made clear that I was not accusing any of the obviously good-faith editors of vandalism.
Once again, I apologize for my oversight. Since there's now a complicated edit situation (the "good version" of the page exists partially in your version and partially in mine), I'll now go about the tedious task of merging our edits, as a penance of sorts. Thanks for alerting me to this.Francophonie&Androphilie (Je vous invite à me parler) 23:39, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! I'll leave you to it. Modal Jig (talk) 23:51, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

Your contributed article, Chretien-Martin Feud

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Chretien-Martin Feud. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – 2004 Liberal Party of Canada infighting. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at 2004 Liberal Party of Canada infighting – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 02:51, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

Fine detail

Two points arising from the advice you gave the unmentionable Jason West Jones (talk · contribs). User_talk pages are not normally allowed to be deleted but they may be blanked or reduced to a {{retired}} tag or similar. I think the theory is that all contributors to the page would need to give their permission before deletion could happen. {{db-u2}} was inappropriate (I assume that was a typo for db-u1.) db-u2 is for mistakes such as this one. (Incidentally, I see you as admin material - sadly the requirements for adminship seem to get more severe. If you do apply in a few month's time, feel free to solicit my support.) — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 02:05, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation! I was still a bit fuzzy on the userpage criteria, despite having the article criteria memorized. ;) Either way, I'm just glad that little meltdown's over for now. Thanks for fighting my vandals, by the way! And I'm flattered that you think I could be an admin... someday, maybe. :) Oh, also, no clue what that "TotalBiscuit" comment on your talk page is about, but it may interest you to know that the OP's userpage is a redirect to Dwarf tossing. — Francophonie&Androphilie (Je vous invite à me parler) 10:43, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

Heh

I hope you don't feel obliged to take the moniker "F&A" on my account. :) Also, apropos of nothing in particular: I think Risker's a "she", although I'm pretty sure nobody minds. ;) Writ Keeper 21:49, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

Haha, to the contrary! You reminded me to get around to updating my doppelgängers. You'll see I've had F&A for a few days now (and for a marathon editor such as myself, a few days feels like a week at least - and, in terms of edit count, it probably is). And oops would appear so. I'll send her my apologies. — Francophonie&Androphilie (Je vous invite à me parler) 21:55, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

Just saying hello

Hello! Thanks for your vandalism patrol tips a few days ago. I installed Twinkle, it helps indeed! BTW, just today I found myself in the middle of the Israel-Palestine war (edit warring about exchanging Israel for Palestine etc etc.).. My only regret is that I cannot install STiki since I am too inexperienced. Cheers.Super48paul (talk) 13:30, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

Bonjour.

Hello Sir; I'm looking for an open mind. Here what the problem is: My name is Frederic Bourdin and there is a Wikipedia article about me: Frederic Bourdin. For years I've been editing it using reliable sources, such as serious Newspaper and Magazine and myself knowing that of course my word would not be enough. There are four different version of my Wikipedia article: English, French, German and Russian, and I've been mainly working with the French and English version and there has never been any problems until a few months ago, let me explain: It is well known in France and in differents press article that the Father of my mother (my grandfather) was racist and because of the fact that my Father was Algerian, my grandfather wanted his daughter, my mother to have an abortion of me. This FACT is on numerous press reports, part of the film that was made about me The imposter and else. It's also on the French version of Wikipedia. So I edited the English version "of me" in the truth interest but: an editor: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:Bbb23 stopped me to put this information in the article because, he say that I should not be quoted no matter how reliable and sourced those quotes are. I was angry because of that and I threatened him with legal action, I did not know that it was forbidden in Wikipedia's rules so I was blocked. I decided to create a new account and I was blocked again and then I decided to wait for the blockage to end and when it did I edited the article again using as an argument that I could quote myself as long that it was supported by reliable sources and... I was blocked again for "evading the block" and I did not since it did run's out... But never mind, I think that all this is very unfair. I only want the true to be printed and my ignorance about Wikipedia's rules deserved me but I think that the editing should be put again and stand (since it's true and confirmed by reliable sources) and if you can help me, maybe you can find it on you to help me being unblocked, I've never had any problems on Wikipedia before and those problems would never have happen if it was not by: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:Bbb23 deep dislike of me. Please look at the facts and help me. PS: You can also see that I've done everything that I could before asking your help: I appealed, I emailed and I don't know what else I could do that I haven't done. Thank you Sir.
--Idontfeelthesame (talk) 22:44, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

Merci encore.--Idontfeelthesame (talk) 10:00, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the kind words!

I wanted to thank you for sending me a message on my edits to the Islamic Terrorism article! I don't really edit wikipedia unless I see something factually incorrect, so hopefully I didn't break any rules of etiquette by removing that block and the one referencing it. I also added in a citation for a sentence further down the article that referenced the Ottoman Empire. Is it okay for me to put in the citation if I know that the work supports the sentence that needed it? Oh well, if it's not I'm sure someone will edit it back to the right way anyhow.

I feel skittish about making too many edits in such a short period of time, but the section in Islamic Terrorism on Hamas references its charter as calling for the destruction of Israel, and that it remains in effect today. Would you mind editing the article to make it clear that Hamas itself states that their views have changed with time and that the sections on Israel have been taken out of context and had their meaning translated incorrectly? Here is the same article which is cited to this effect in the Hamas Covenant article. Thank you!

First off, yes, you're allowed to reference any reliable source, no matter how accessible or in accessible it may be to verify it. More importantly, though, you're doing a great job of being bold, which is something that we greatly value in the community; it's what makes the strongest editors, and later on, the most effective admins. So I'd encourage you to not stop just because you're worried about how it may come across. As long as you stay within the guidelines, your edits are quite welcome and appreciated - and even if you do break a rule or two by accident, as long as you don't repeat the mistake it won't be a problem; everybody does it when they're new. So please, keep on editing! — Francophonie&Androphilie (Je vous invite à me parler) 05:41, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

Please set up an e-mail address in your preferences. I would have very much preferred to send you the message below via e-mail because: a) the slightest thing I do in connection with our mutual friend seems to provoke some massive outburst from him and b) now that I have semi-protected my talk page his outbursts are only going to affect others.

Thank you for preparing User:Francophonie&Androphilie/JWJ documentation. Given that he has been plaguing Wikipedia on and off since this in 2008, there is no reason to believe that his "retirement" will be permanent. So it is useful to have the "previous" thoroughly documented. Every time I look at his actions, I cannot help thinking "how childish". This is the sort of things that ten year old kids get up to. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 21:04, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

NAC Thanks

Hi F&A. I didn't see this comment until after the discussion was closed, but I just wanted to say thanks for pointing that out. Thanks again. — sparklism hey! 15:12, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Haha, well I'm probably a bit too familiar with policy exceptions, in all honesty - I think you can always spot an NPP'er in an AfD or similar discussion by the apparent need to speed things up as much as possible. So, as Dennis said in his closing note, I quite admire your restraint in double-checking what you did; I hope I can be so self-aware in my contributions someday. :) — Francophonie&Androphilie (Je vous invite à me parler) 19:06, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
