Minor/major edits

[edit]

Your edit to the page on the Chida was decidedly not a "minor edit" as you flagged it[1]. Minor edits are corrections of spelling etc. Are you sure the section titled "superstition" conforms to WP:NPOV? JFW | T@lk 21:39, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The "superstition" section is straight from the Jewish Encyclopedia, which I consulted when I initially wrote the Chida article. I find the whole use of the term "superstition" troublesome. It indicates irrational or even deluded thoughts and actions, and is not WP:NPOV without a source actually calling him that (e.g. "the 1906 Jewish Encyclopedia labels many of his customs superstitious").
The 1906 JE is not the final word on many issues. It is unreasonably biased towards modern interpretations by a small group of 19th century scholars. If you are unsure whether a certain point is worth including here, there's always Wikipedia:WikiProject Judaism where you can take soundings and request comments. ...May I ask why you're making edits in these users their namespace?SoothingR 09:20, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I take it that you actually meant to edit Wikipedia:Sandbox? If so, I'll delete the userpages of these users, as they weren't created by them.SoothingR 09:27, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yoel Sirkis

[edit]

For some strange reason, the Bach had two articles on him - Yoel Sirkis and Joel Sirkes. Following the advice in the wikipedia:merging section, I merged the two together and hopefully left all the information in, only deleting in the event of repitition or overlap. Hope you don't mind - I've redirected everything - see it here at Yoel Sirkis (it was also listed in both the Orthodox Rabbis and Middle Ages Rabbis categories, so I changed it just to Orthodox Rabbis). Bach

[edit]

You wrote in the original Joel Sirkes article that

Sirkes wrote: "Meshib Nefesh," commentary on the Book of Ruth (Lublin, 1616); "Bayit Ḥadash," commentary on the "Arba'ah Turim" of Jacob ben Asher (Cracow, 1631-40); "She'elotu-Teshubot Bayit Ḥadash" (Frankfort, 1697); "She'elot u-Teshubot Bet Ḥadash ha-Ḥadashot" (Koretz, 1785); "Haggahot," on all the tractates of the Babylonian Talmud; and '"Rosh," first published, from a manuscript, in the Warsaw (1860) edition of the Talmud, and included in almost every subsequent edition thereof.
Hence I'm hoping you can answer at least the second of these two questions posed here: [2]. With many thanks and compliments on a great article, Nesher 21:32, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
