SPEC
[edit]You recently eliminated the redirect from SPEC to Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation. I will revert that change as Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation appears to be the most notable subject with the name SPEC. For example, try searching Google for SPEC. Wikipedia:Disambiguation has some advice on how to manage conflicts in article titles. Elving (talk) 21:12, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Notability of SPEC Youth Retreat Centre
[edit]A tag has been placed on SPEC Youth Retreat Centre requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Accounting4Taste:talk 21:48, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your note. At the top of this page, I've left a templated welcome message that has links to a number of different basic tools and information about Wikipedia and I hope you will find it useful. Two articles that may help you most are WP:Your first article and WP:Why was my article deleted?. The two aspects of your article that would need improvement are (1) that it's not clear that the topic is notable -- that the Youth Retreat Centre is in any way special or unusual or better than other organizations of similar uses and backgrounds -- and (2) that there are no reliable sources that corroborate that notability. What would be required as reliable sources is independent, arm's-length, third-party expert opinion that asserts the notability of the topic and is verifiable. It's a common misconception that simply because a topic (organization, person, record album, etc.) exists, that it is therefore the proper subject of a Wikipedia article. In fact, Wikipedia articles are only about notable topics and that notability has to be backed up by expert opinion (in such things as newspapers, magazines, etc.). If you have any questions about Wikipedia policies that aren't answered by the welcome message's links or the links within this paragraph, feel free to leave me a note. AfD nomination of All Saints Pastoral centre
[edit]I have nominated All Saints Pastoral centre, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/All Saints Pastoral centre. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.
Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Oo7565 (talk) 16:39, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
