Hi there, I translated this text with help from a friend by reading and decoding it.
"This photo was taken at the entrance to Manger Square in 1959. I was standing next to Mr. Saleh Al-Hamarneh, who was reading a letter to me that came from his son, Rjạ̉, from the American University of Beirut. This is the first letter that came from him. He was showing me a phrase in the letter, a request to 'cheek kiss Abu Salem on behalf of me'. After reading the letter, he cheek kissed me (An Arab way of greeting). Mr. Ayoub Muslim was standing in front of us, and the American journalist who took the photo. The photo came out immediately five minutes after it was taken.
