Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Tourism Industry Association of Ontario
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Draft:Tourism Industry Association of Ontario, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
- It appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement of https://www.tiaontario.ca/cpages/about. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit]You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:
- Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Orange Mike | Talk 21:56, 2 February 2022 (UTC)How to delete a draft article?

Blocked for sockpuppetry

Request reason:
Hello! This will be a longish message, and I hope that you will please read it to the end. I started this user account in order to write an article on the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO), for whom I work. Following the rules, I did make that declaration so that there would be no conflict of interest. The intention of the article is to ensure that anyone searching for information on the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario, would find them in Wikipedia, and learn that we are a non-profit advocacy organization, and not a government agency or a Destination Marketing Organization, for which we are commonly mistaken. In the past two years, our organization has worked tirelessly to support and advocate for tourism businesses affected by COVID-19, and we are now often referenced, resourced, and relied upon by many companies including news agencies, making us quite notable. I set up what I thought would be a draft page with a couple of lines from our TIAO website that I could go back and edit later (and not understanding that I was publishing, and should have been testing things out in the Sandbox) and the article was immediately flagged for speedy deletion as being non-encyclopedic and possibly in copyright violation, which totally makes sense. So first I followed the declaration of consent process, and laboriously included each and every one of our website pages. While waiting for that to be reviewed, I thought about how we could have a better, third party, more encyclopedic article written. To accomplish this, I approached two, new unpaid interns and assigned them this task: write a Wiki-style article (i.e. encyclopedic, non-partisan, third-party) about TIAO, using as many outside references as possible. In the mean time, this user account was also flagged as being problematic as it had the word TIAO in it, and was blocked indefinitely. So I asked the interns to set up their own editor account, and begin working on a new Tourism Industry Association of Ontario article. You see, at this point, I believed that the original article was deleted. So, when they attempted to publish the new article (which by the way I am told contains 31 outside references regarding TIAO), they were told that they couldn't because the article already existed. So they tried to log into my user account to delete it, and that was when they were accused of sock puppetry. I can totally understand why you would think that, but that certainly was not our intention, and I believe not the case here. They (unpaid new student interns) had written a completely third party encyclopedic article, and could not even have it reviewed because I made critical errors in my initial approach. So, what am I asking for? I would love to unblock and then delete or inactivate or rename this user account as I have no personal desire or need to ever edit any Wikipedia articles. I would like to delete the original article I attempted to write (which as you can see only contains the declaration of consent and a line that we would add content soon.) I would like to see our interns unblocked as this truly was not any malfeasant attempt at sock puppetry. And finally, I would like them to be able to submit the new article for review. Thank you for reading to the end of this message, and I hope you consider these requests. TIAOWiki (talk) 16:39, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
Decline reason:
I am going to be bold and close this request since you say you have no intentions of editing. Your interns are free to request unblock themselves, though I think it's unlikely since by your own admission they will want to continue to edit about your company. Please also heed the information below. We have no interest in aiding search results for your organization or in helping persons interested in it. 331dot (talk) 21:09, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
- Your account name represents an organization, which is something expressly disallowed by Wikipedia's username policy. You need to select a name username which represents you as an individual for an unblock to be considered.
- Sharing access to your account was also another violation of the username policy. The person who creates an account must never allow others to use it, for any reason.
- We have little interest in what an organization's representatives want to say about it. It is an inherent conflict of interest, which compromises your ability to be an objective judge of your organization's notability, and write from the required neutral point of view. You have clearly expressed that you have no intention or desire to edit Wikipedia other than to create an article about your organization.
- Your organization's interns - paid or not - are still considered paid editors by our mandatory paid editing disclosure policy. The internships themselves are considered compensation, regardless of the absence of remuneration. They are representing your organization, not disinterested third parties. The paid editing policy's section entitled "Additional notes on who must disclose" says:
Users who are compensated for any publicity efforts related to the subject of their Wikipedia contributions are deemed to be paid editors, regardless of whether they were compensated specifically to edit Wikipedia.
Interns are considered employees for this purpose. If they are directed or expected to edit Wikipedia as part of an internship, they must disclose.
I am not an administrator, so I cannot comment on the deleted draft article since I cannot see deleted content. However an organization - for-profit or non-profit - must meet Wikipedia's notability criteria to be considered worthy of inclusion. Significant coverage (not brief mentions or routine coverage) from multiple reliable and independent sources is required to meet this criteria. Being a worthy cause isn't enough - sufficient quantity and quality of third-party coverage is what we need to see.
Given the above I am not optimistic about your chances for being unblocked. But maybe the reviewing admin will have a different point of view. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 19:58, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
