File source problem with File:TomFurryIcon.jpg

[edit]
File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:TomFurryIcon.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:54, 4 November 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. feydey (talk) 20:54, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox Furry

[edit]

I edited your userbox, User:THWoodman/Userbox Furry because Category:Furry fandom is a content category; meaning that it is only for Wikipedia articles. There was Category:Furry Wikipedians for this type of thing, but it was deemed a "self-identification" category and "[d]oes not further the project" as if pointing out your interests is totally useless in terms of POV, knowledge of the subject, etc. User categories based on interest must be worldly and popular to warrant a category I suppose. Anyway, welcome to Wikipedia. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. RP9 (talk) 13:10, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File:BuffaloSkyline.jpg

[edit]

Hi, Tom. Welcome to Wikipedia. The image you uploaded of Buffalo's skyline, File:BuffaloSkyline.jpg is indeed beautiful. Unfortunately, there are a couple of problems with it. First of all, you've indicated on the image description page that the image is in the public domain. The e-mail you've quoted there does not indicate that Mr. Zimmermann released the photo into the public domain, so you should remove the "public domain" tag as soon as possible.

Now of course, that tag needs to be replaced with something, and it needs to be a free license -- that is, one of the ones found at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Free licenses. The problem is that based on the e-mail you quoted -- "Thank you for the interest in my photo of the Buffalo skyline and for asking of my permission for use in Wikipedia. You have my permission for freely using the photo for that purpose." -- asking permission just for use in Wikipedia is not sufficient. (Please see Wikipedia:Image use policy#Free licenses.) We need Mr. Zimmermann to agree not just to have the image used on Wikipedia, but for it to be released under a free license. You can do so by following the instructions at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.

I hope this message is clear. Please don't hesitate to ask me, or any other helpful Wikipedian (like at the WP:Help desk) if you need further guidance. Thanks, and I hope you stick around and keep contributing to the encyclopedia.
