110 Film

[edit]

Hi there, Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia.

Can you provide the source for your claim that Ferrania are discontinuing 110 film? (Either a link to an online press-release/report or a reference to printed material).

I haven't removed your claim, as I believe it probably *is* true, but I can't find any reference to back it up on the web, so I marked it as "citation needed". Thanks!

All the best, Fourohfour 11:25, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Salutations! I don't have a press release or a link. I made the edit based on an email from a "Shirley" at the OK outlet of Ferrania, on 2 November 2006. I followed up with a phone call and ended up ordering the last 127 rolls of film they had in stock in the U.S. If you'd give me an idea how to effectively reference an email exchange or phone conversation, I'd be happy to do so.

Either that or I was jobbed and Shirley is laughing hysterically at me for falling for a high-pressure sales tactic. If you browse the Ferriana online store, 110 film is conspicuous by its absence.

Any direction you can offer would be appreciated.

Warm regards, TDKozan 21:02, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm... if it was based on an email *conversation*- as opposed to an emailed press release, for example- it would probably constitute "original research" and isn't referencable.
Strictly speaking, Wikipedia is only supposed to include non-original information that has already been verifiably published elsewhere, albeit in a different form. (A telephone call definitely falls outside this category).
If the original email was a press release and/or bulk advert, then it's probably referencable, even if it's not online. (You *could* put it online I guess- I doubt confidentiality would apply to bulk ads/PR- but it's not necessary). You may wish to note the source, or at least the division of Ferrania it came from (e.g. "Sales, Ferrania U.S." or whatever it was).
If it wasn't PR or an advert, then I don't think it can be referenced. That having been said, if Ferrania actually claimed that they were discontinuing 110, then it's probably safe to leave the fact in. (Even though it's technically against the rules).
Sorry; didn't mean to make too big a deal of this. Sometimes people read more into things than is valid given the information (or reliability of sources) available, and I didn't know which it was in your case.

I guess it's best to leave everything as it stands currently since it was a private exchange, not a press release.
No biggie regardless, I'm just trying to figure out how to best contribute as I go along. I got tired of making silly little edits without accountability so now I'm trying to live with the consequences.

I removed your statement because Ferrania's website here and here still indicate that it's selling 110 film. Maybe it's an out-of-date page, but I don't recall seeing it last time I checked. Fourohfour 16:04, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
-shrug- Not worth fussing about. Attempting to place an order would give you the information. TDKozan 19:24, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ferrania should make up their minds then; maybe the sales person misunderstood the situation (or was just misinformed), maybe you did, maybe she was only referring to the U.S., maybe the website really is out of date, I can't tell. Nothing personal, it's just two contradictory stories supposedly from the same people. As you said, not that big a deal. Fourohfour 11:15, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for contacting Ferrania usinfo.

We have just recently discontinued the manufacturing of 110 film. However, there are inventories on hand through our distributors and dealers. We suggest trying a search engine on the internet, such as Google, to locate any dealers selling our 110 film.

Again, thank you for contacting Ferrania usinfo.
