- Hi Sven-steffen, when you see vandalism like that at Sudan, you can revert to an earlier version rather than trying to figure out what is missing. See Wikipedia:How to revert a page to an earlier version. Thanks, BanyanTree 18:06, 3 August 2005 (UTC)
- ah ... so it works! ... i always asked me how all others make reverts :-) ... thanks Sven-steffen arndt 10:33, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
Sudan source material
[edit]Hello again Sven-steffen, I clicked on one of the interwiki links that you've been adding and was really impressed with the German articles you've been making for Sudanese locations. I was wondering if the source you use is also available in English? I can puzzle out some of what the German means, but an English language source would be much simpler. Thanks, BanyanTree 17:02, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
- mmh :-) ... most of them are english, so i always have to translate ... see the following web-pages:
- sudan embassy in oslo
- sudan embassy in london
- world-airport-codes for sudan
- and also google, but don't take only the first 10 or 20, often i go till 100
- i hope i could help you ... Sven-steffen arndt 21:55, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
- and also a nice map by the UN for sudan for distances and so, see sudan.pdf Sven-steffen arndt 21:58, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
- ... can you transfer the images from all english sudan-articles to the wiki-commons, there i already have created some categories and transfered all images from the german wiki ... maybe then i have the feeling that i'm not alone there :-( Sven-steffen arndt 22:14, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for your links. I'll try to help moving some images to the Commons. Cheers, BanyanTree 22:24, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

Omdurman + Khartoum
[edit]Hi, I was wondering if, because Khartoum and Omdurman form one metropolitan area, if they shouldn't be considered together categorically, like Category:Minneapolis-St. Paul. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't someone living in Omdurman use the Khartoum airport, thus making it the de facto airport of Omdurman? --McTrixie/Mr Accountable 21:55, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
- From looking at the map at article Omdurman, it seems as though the cities are only a few hundred meters from each other. --McTrixie/Mr Accountable 22:03, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
- you made a rekursiv-error in Category:Omdurman and Category:Khartoum by adding them in each other ... for the articles in each Cat: you should define, what articles should be in the Cats - if all articles are in both, Category:Omdurman and Category:Khartoum, you don't need two Cats ... to the airport: if you want to travel by ship oversees from omdurman, you have to take a ship from Port Sudan, so Port Sudan also belongs to Category:Omdurman? - Sven-steffen arndt 23:28, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
- I would say that businesses like department stores, city magazines, tv and radio, grocery chains, in the area that serve both cities would be in both categories; Khartoum state agencies that serve the area; private schools and big employers with people from both cities involved. Looking at Category:Minneapolis, Minnesota, Category:Saint Paul, Minnesota and Category:Minneapolis-St. Paul, it doesn't seem like the categories have anything in common; it seems like the articles are held in common by both cities are simply placed in the big category..... I don't know what nomenclature would be used here; Category:Greater Khartoum? IDK......The people who work with the categories in Minnesota haven't put the two cities' categories on each apposite page, meaning that one has to go down to the bottom of the page to switch categories; if I ran the circus, I would simply put all three categories at the top of each category page and be done with it. ...... If one considers what has been done on the Wikipedia for the area around London, England, where every subway stop, bus line and restaurant chain etc etc has been identified, articled and categorized, one assumes that eventually the Khartoum area would eventually be as well organized someday. I guess its very simple; 3 categories, one for each city, and one meta-category for the full metropolitan area. Articles in common would simply be put in the big category........ And if you put Port Sudan in Category Omdurman, wouldn't it also have to be put in Category:Khartoum as well, if residents of Khartoum also go to Port Sudan to board an ocean liner? It would have to be so, unless the big category were also there to include travel agencies and train lines etc that are involved in the Greater Khartoum cruise line business. --McTrixie/Mr Accountable 08:25, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
- the idea of a big Cat including Khartoum-Cat and Omdurman-Cat seems to be ok, but i also have no idea how to name this big Cat ... i never would put Port Sudan in these Cats - but maybe we have different views of what things we are using Cats for - Sven-steffen arndt 14:26, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
