Climate additions

[edit]

Just so you know, you would save time by converting any county-level division (县级市、县) that has a full Climate table in ZH-Wiki to Template:Weather box. Here are the syntax conversions:

  • "_Hi_°C" --> " high C"
  • "_Lo_°C" --> " low C"
  • "_Precip_mm" --> " precipitation mm"
    • "_Rain_mm" --> " rain mm"
  • "_Hum" --> " humidity"
  • "_Precip_days" --> " precipitation days"
    • "_Rain_days" --> " rain days"
  • "_Sun" --> " sun"

You must follow the spacing EXACTLY as I showed above. Otherwise it will not work. –HXL's Roundtable and Record 21:13, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your advice.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Supasun (talkcontribs)

The rainfall that you gave for Mianyang and Dujiangyan are very similar, so one of them is probably incorrect. Also some of the monthly precipitation totals for Shangri-La County do not appear to be correct.

Could you tell me how you read off the data from weather.gov.cn? You do not need to tell me how to arrive at the data...did you estimate values from the graph, or was there a table of values? Thanks. —HXL's Roundtable and Record 21:34, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I made a mistaken about the rainfall of Mianyang. This is a link of Mianyang city Climate data http://www.weather.com.cn/cityintro/101270401.shtml , and This is a link of Dujiangyan Climate data http://www.weather.com.cn/cityintro/101270111.shtml, Thank you for reviewing it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Supasun (talkcontribs)

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. Climate additions and ZH-Wiki

[edit]

Although this will slow you down, please copy as much of your additions to the corresponding article on Chinese Wikipedia. I assume you know enough Chinese to do this? You can copy (and slightly modify) the description Weather.com.cn gives. Just do the reverse of the replacements I gave above. You MUST include the spaces before...i.e. type in " high C" exactly when replacing. —HXL's Roundtable and Record 23:50, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah,I know enought to do this. I plan do this in ZH-wiki after finishing in EN-wiki. I have a request , Can you add the climate data to Genhe at this moment. Thank you

Could you please give the climate data of 图里河Tulihe(30km south of Genhe and have similar Climate)from CMA to (Genhe city) , it's regarded as a coldest city in all of china(population over 100,000 inhabited),but Mohe are coldest town in China. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Supasun (talkcontribs) 18:44, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I can see, 图里河 is not a settlement but a region: 图里河地区. If I can get the data from here for Genhe itself, then I will, but if I cannot, I will use CMA. Not now though. —HXL's Roundtable and Record 19:10, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced edits

[edit]

You have done a lot of unsourced edits changing temperatures on various cities today. Please note that you should stop and discuss. Continuing to post unsourced edits will lead to a block of the account. -- Alexf(talk) 22:13, 7 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

all of my edits changing temperature have source.It is accurate site. Please let me know, which one is unsourced? Thank you. Supasun (talk) 5:26, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Most of my edits source of russian climate cities is only added the average snowfall precipitation. which is the same source site they have before. Supasun (talk) 5:32, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

For example this one changes by 1 degree. Where does it come from. It may be you are correct but it looks like you just randomly changed it as you have not provided a source for it. -- Alexf(talk) 22:41, 7 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not block me, I have nothing to provide the source because There is already a source. It is come from their climate data source This is the source you can check here Buenos Aires July Average Climate Maximum is 14.9c in the source . but in the wiki someone made it wrong at 13.9c. so I Correct it. Thank you for your advice. Supasun (talk) 5:52, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

For the Russian cities average snowfall , I just use the same source That already have on the page. Thank you Supasun (talk) 5:52, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Ok. That explains it. Thank you. -- Alexf(talk) 09:02, 8 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I have seen these come up in a lot of the Russian cities, which came from most of your edits to them. Be really careful. Those are not snowfall you are putting in but instead they are snow depth information. Snowfall and snow depth are 2 different things. You can see the difference in this example in Iqaluit from Canada which measures snowfall and snow depth. The one on the wiki page (it's correct after checking it) uses the snowfall data instead of the snow depth data. Ssbbplayer (talk) 14:50, 15 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Poorly placed oversized climate tables

[edit]

Please remember to put climate tables in a suitable location on a page, and consider whether the collapsed option is suitable. Creating a climate section near the top of a page and putting a large climate table but no text is not good practice. Just because the information exists is not a good enough reason on its own to add to a page. The main format of wikipedia is that of an article creat,ing a climate section and placing a table in it but on text is not how an article be built up. Where tables that do not contain information directly relating to the text of the article should either be collasped or not added.Johnkn63 (talk) 03:20, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. And, more importantly, all the automated page edit creations carry only the general meteorological site url; none are supported by proper linking to the source of the data presented. Hence, all of the pages subjected to this edit have unverifiable data and all such edits should be removed if not properly sourced. sirlanz 22:32, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sirlanz has deleted your climate data on Shangchuan Island twice- I revert his edit and added a new method of citation, do you like it?- Geographyinitiative (talk) 03:14, 24 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi thank you for your added, I just open and has not seen yet. it was gone ,Seems he also deleted your added . he also deleted baoting county, and wanning city twice which is unreasonable . It is normal that chinese climate data have only main page. it is the same case for near mostly chinese climate data in every language on wiki, those specific information are in subpage which is non url format , so there are only main page to link . Advice on climate data

[edit]

The first is about the way of the 1991-2020 climate data released by the China Meteorological Administration. It is best not to use the original table (the problem is that the webpage is not easy to archive through the wayback machine, and the website will become invalid at any time). Of course, you can still use it as a secondary tool before the site fails.

I have a reference template here, you can use it for reference, Thank you for your cooperation! User:Fumikas Sagisavas/climatedata/prc/template ALSTROEMERIA🌸Čijukas Kuvajamas 14:10, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, the scale of the average value of the table is 1991-2020, and the scale of the average value should be 1981-2010. Of course, if you want to obtain extreme value data after 2011, you need to use NOAA or OGIMET ALSTROEMERIA🌸Čijukas Kuvajamas 14:14, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I highly recommend that you swap out source [1] for [2][1]. Because according to the verifiable policy, the new link has been stored in the Wayback Machine, even if the original web page is invalid, the data can be viewed on the archived page. ALSTROEMERIA🌸Čijukas Kuvajamas 14:19, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I want to replace all of the data with 1991-2020 average normals. However, there are still 400-500 stations and some major cities such as chengdu, changsha and xi’an which do not have 1991-2020 normals yet.
so now i will stick to 1981-2010 normals with adding precipitation days, snow days, sunshine and wait until there are information available in all values and all stations with 1991-2020 normals. Spsn34 (talk) 19:59, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your advice. Do you have a reference template in wayback machine that contains all of the 2400+ stations? The reference template you sent only has a few hundred stations, while the original table have 2400+ stations. Spsn34 (talk) 19:57, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

mean max and min for weather boxes

[edit]

Hello, is there some policy against using mean max and mean min for weather boxes? I noticed you have removed it for Oban, New Zealand, but kept the record temps I added. I also saw for other pages you kept the mean max and mins. If you could let me know why this is I'd appreciate it so you don't need to fix my edits. I also saw you removed quite a few other weather boxes I added, but I figured you were cleaning since there were 2 of them and you kept the record temps. In future when I have mean max and mins for 1991-2020 for example should I just replace the previous normals for the weather box rather than making a separate weather box to include them when they are from a different source. I think that they are a very valuable piece of data which is worth including whenever possible. I will start writing "-present" for record temps from now, thanks. I'm new to Wikipedia like to improve my weather box editing skills so I'd appreciate any tips. Cheers Javier1957 (talk) 23:02, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't mean to leave in that first sentence, that was from a first draft while I was reviewing all your recent edits to get a better understanding. Cheers Javier1957 (talk) 23:04, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your newly added information in the weather box. I only moved the record temperature boxes into one weather box but did not move mean and max mins because they weren't from the same period year with the existing weather box. yeah, you can add data in the existing weather box unless they were from a different station. Spsn34 (talk) 06:20, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your contributions and help. If I have the 1991-2020 data for a station with mean max and mins but the weather box uses another station which doesn't have that data I'll replace it for the extra data.
Under what circumstances should there be 2 weather boxes? If the place is large enough and there is a temp difference in the different locations and if there is an airport for the place with its own weather box? For Christchurch I plan on putting 3, airport (current), gardens and bromley, all with noticeable differences and representing different parts of the city. Cheers Javier1957 (talk) 08:05, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, some cities on Wiki have more than one weather box. maybe there is no place for the airport so you can put the airport weather box in their district location or Christchurch city. Spsn34 (talk) 09:49, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone please correct the climate data for Kenting National Park in Taiwan?

[edit]

According to the edit records I checked, the average daily minimum temperature °C (°F) and average daily maximum temperature °C (°F) of this place have been modified in recent years, but the average daily temperature (°F) has not changed. At the same time, I don't know if the original source of the climate data for Kenting National Park is reliable. 205.134.180.156 (talk) 04:18, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I think that temperature number looks strange. Now I've replaced them with data 1991-2020 average from 畜試南區分所(B2Q810) station. Spsn34 (talk) 12:00, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
