Sumanth Ratna. Kandavalli is a materials researcher based in New York City. Ratna is a graduate student at New York University Tandon School of Engineering department of mechanical and aerospace engineering. He received his B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Karunya University as an honored undergraduate. His research interests are in the fields of Mechanical and Material Science Engineering with more than five years of experience in conducting research. In recent years, his work has focused on additive manufacturing, composite materials, polymers and biofuel production.

In 2021, Ratna graduated from the Karunya University with a Bachelor of Technology degree. He received a Master of Science degree from the Tandon School of Engineering New York University in 2023.

Research

Ratna joined the Centre for Research in Design and Manufacturing Engineering (CRDM) in 2018 as an undergrad research student under Dr. Rajesh Ruban's supervision in analyzing data, conducting literature reviews, casting the composite (stir casting), and operating the UTM. Later he joined Center for Research in Metallurgy (CRM) as a research assistant with involvement in project planning, preparing samples for material characterization (SEM, OM), mechanical testing (tensile, macro, and micro-hardness), friction stir processing, fused deposition modeling, lab housekeeping, writing original manuscripts.

He has published over 30 peer-reviewed scientific papers and filed over 25 National and International Patent applications, of which 8 are issued.His publications have been cited more than 355 times, and he has an h-index of 12, as of 05 March 2024 on Google scholar. RATNA has also undertaken the noble endeavor of co-authoring a book titled "Introduction to Material Science and Engineering."
