Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia

The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome!

Hello Sujex69,

It seems to me that an article you worked on, Norton zone, may be copied from http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/app/norton-zone-cloud-file-sharing/97ef80af-7d93-46a0-849b-71324df3056d. It's entirely possible that I made a mistake, but I wanted to let you know because Wikipedia is strict about copying from other sites.

It's important that you edit the article and rewrite it in your own words, unless you're absolutely certain nothing in it is copied. If you're not sure how to fix the problem or have any questions, there are people at the help desk who are happy to assist you.

Thank you for helping build a free encyclopedia! MadmanBot (talk) 18:54, 22 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Norton zone requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/app/norton-zone-cloud-file-sharing/97ef80af-7d93-46a0-849b-71324df3056d. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. A tag has been placed on Norton zone, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

As reviewing administrator, I deleted the article.

A Wikipedia article needs to be written like an encyclopedia article, not a press release-- Don't include material that would better belong in an advertisement or a web page, such as a detailed list of products or of executives or branch offices, such as telling a person the advantages of the program--Never write articles addressed to "you" .Remember not to copy from a web site, even your own -- first it's a copyright violation, but, even if you own the copyright and are willing to give us permission according to WP:DCM (permission that irrevocably gives everyone in the world the right to copy, reuse, and modify the material) , the tone will not be encyclopedic and the material will not be suitablem as here. (Thus, there is generally no purpose in giving permission; it is better to rewrite.)

Include only material that would be of interest to a general reader coming across the mention of the subject and wanting the sort of information that would be found in an encyclopedia. Do not include material that would be of interest only to those associated with the subject, or to prospective users--that sort of content is considered promotional. This article was so addressed, and reads like a straightforward advertisement. We do not do this here.

A Wikipedia article also needs to show notability with references providing substantial coverage from 3rd party independent published reliable sources, print or online, but not blogs or press releases, or material derived from press releases. For software, this is normally substantial independent product reviews. If you have such sources, it may be possible to rewrite the article; otherwise, it will not be possible to write an acceptable article.

As a general rule, a suitable page will be best written by someone without Conflict of Interest; it's very difficult to do it properly with a conflict of interest, and you say you work for the company: you are automatically thinking in terms of what the subject wishes to communicate to the public, but an uninvolved person will think in terms of what the public might wish to know. And remember that if your product is notable, other people will know it, and write the article. Norton is well enough known that its staff should not have to write the articles about their products. .

If you think you can do it right according to our guidelines, do so, but expect the article to be carefully checked for objectivity, and for the presence of sources that show notability. The only acceptable way of rewriting is to use the WP:Article Wizard, which will guide you towards an acceptable article if one is possible. But, oddly enough, someone already tried that back in December: Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Norton Zone. It contains the same inappropriate material, but it's better than what you did, because it does contain references to reviews of the software.

You've admitted you work for the company. I do not know who assigned you to this project. Perhaps you could urge them to get in touch with us through WP:OTRS, or by posting on WP:COIN, our conflict of interest noticeboard, or contacting me or any administrator, and we will explain why what you were told to do is not acceptable here.
