Books & Bytes New Years Double Issue
Volume 1 Issue 3, December/January 2013
(Sign up for monthly delivery)
Happy New Year, and welcome to a special double issue of Books & Bytes. We've included a retrospective on the changes and progress TWL has seen over the last year, the results of the survey TWL participants completed in December, some of our plans for the future, a second interview with a Wiki Love Libraries coordinator, and more. Here's to 2014 being a year of expansion and innovation for TWL!
The Wikipedia Library completed the first 6 months of its Individual Engagement grant last week. Here's where we are and what we've done:
- Increased access to sources: 1500 editors signed up for 3700 free accounts, individually worth over $500,000, with usage increases of 400-600%
- Deep networking: Built relationships with Credo, HighBeam, Questia, JSTOR, Cochrane, LexisNexis, EBSCO, New York Times, and OCLC
- New pilot projects: Started the Wikipedia Visiting Scholar project to empower university-affiliated Wikipedia researchers
- Developed community: Created portal connecting 250 newsletter recipients, 30 library members, 3 volunteer coordinators, and 2 part-time contractors
- Tech scoped: Spec'd out a reference tool for linking to full-text sources and established a basis for OAuth integration
- Broad outreach: Wrote a feature article for Library Journal's The Digital Shift; presenting at the American Library Association annual meeting

Altered speedy deletion rationale: Val murphy
Hello StudiesWorld. I am just letting you know that I deleted Val murphy, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided, which doesn't fit the page in question. Thank you. Shirt58 (talk) 12:17, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

January 2014
Hi StudiesWorld. Thank you for your work on patrolling new pages and tagging for speedy deletion. I'm just letting you know that I declined your deletion request for JAY MAA BEHAD BALI, a page that you tagged for speedy deletion, because the criterion you used or the reason you gave does not cover this kind of page. Please take a moment to look at the suggested tasks for patrollers and review the criteria for speedy deletion. Particularly, the section covering non-criteria. Such pages are best tagged with proposed deletion or proposed deletion for biographies of living persons, or sent to the appropriate deletion discussion. Not nonsense or gibberish. Article is in Malay language. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 12:28, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
New Page Patrol
Hi StudiesWorld. I appreciate you wanting to jump right in and help control the quality of new pages but with only 100 edits to mainspace I do not believe you are ready for this task yet. Please read WP:NPP and WP:DELETION and consider patrolling again when you have gained experience with several hundred edits. Happy editing! Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 12:33, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
I have unreviewed a page you curated
Hi, I'm Kudpung. I wanted to let you know that I saw the page you reviewed, Kamal Mitra, and have un-reviewed it again. If you have any questions, please ask them on my talk page. Thank you. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 12:52, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
- Please refer to the article history to see what the article looked light when you tagged or reviewed it. Thanks. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 00:40, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- I noticed that you reviewed the page less than a minute after the page had been created. That is a tad quick. If you must review new pages then it would be best to start at the old end of the queue (although I concur with Kudpung's advice above). Op47 (talk) 09:38, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- That makes sense. StudiesWorld (talk) 11:00, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
