Please remove your premature GA nom here - I have edited the article, so shouldn't fail it, but this is not what a GA article on a painting looks like at all, even after others have improved it. Many basic points are still missing - I have added the most obvious, but it's unreferenced. You can't really do a GA off the museum online sources, even for the MET. Thanks, Johnbod (talk) 15:37, 23 July 2019 (UTC)
- Johnbod, I would be happy to, if you could be more specific about the problems. What information should be added and what information do you think requires better sourcing? StudiesWorld (talk) 17:04, 23 July 2019 (UTC)
- I added on the position within Cuyp's work, & Dutch portraiture in general, but more is needed on that. I think the article is generally a long way from GA standard. Johnbod (talk) 17:09, 23 July 2019 (UTC)
- Johnbod, thanks for the help. I've pulled the nomination until I have more time to improve it. Thanks, StudiesWorld (talk) 17:19, 23 July 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks - it's a nice article as it is, & I'm glad we have it. You may have noticed I started Category:Paintings by Aelbert Cuyp in its honour. It's pity we don't have articles on his most typical large landscapes, except for the stubby River Landscape with Riders. You might explore the question of how many of his other landscapes actually contain portraits. Johnbod (talk) 17:29, 23 July 2019 (UTC)
- Johnbod, thanks for the recommendation. I don't know much about art, but I like it and if I have time, I will definitely look into expanding our coverage of his paintings. StudiesWorld (talk) 00:59, 25 July 2019 (UTC)

Out of order
Thank you for the promotion of Die wundersame Schustersfrau, but formally, it lacked a tick, and if you tick it, someone else should promote. - Once I'm here, I question your reasoning in Floq's RfA. "decision intended to prevent harassment on the project", who said so at what time? These intentions were not clear in the ban without any reasoning, and without means of appeal. THAT - banning someone out of the blue - was "out-of-order", and I am ready to accept unusual measures to raise awareness for such a questionable action, whatever good was intended by it. - I had several encounters with Fram, often no reason for joy on my side, but never, never anything even bordering harassment. - I have another opera in the DYK queue with the line "We pounded on the doors of the mighty", - and I felt that it's pretty much appropriate for resistence against the WMF T&S action. WMF should do whatever possible to avoid being compared to the Gestapo. (I am German, I tried to talk to Jan Eissfeldt in German, no response. I wrote on Kafka, "... about alienation, unresponsive bureaucracy, the frustration of trying to conduct business with non-transparent, seemingly arbitrary controlling systems ...") --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:48, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt, thanks for letting me know. I wasn't aware that overrode a tick, but I have reverted by promotion and simply approved it instead. I really value your opinion and respect you, but unfortunately, I disagree regarding Floq. If you look through by contributions to the discussion, you will see that at first, I was supportive of the action, but later changed my mind. I'm not sure how effective the unbanning was at raising awareness or bring the WMF to the table, but we will never be able to know what caused that. However, I am think that we should err on the side of caution when dealing with harassment and we should have at least waited for more information from ArbCom and board representatives before acting. Additionally, I found the later behaviors around their re-sysopping to be unnecessarily provocative. I hope that you can see where I am coming from. StudiesWorld (talk) 12:58, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- As you said, we should act on the side of caution. It tells me that we should not accuse Fram of harassment unless "convicted". - Please check your facts. Did Floq unban Fram? No. Was the word harassment even mentioned when he unblocked him? I doubt it. - I don't know if you read the reasons - summarised by Iridescent, and actually the whole thread is worth reading - why some in the community were/are so upset about the T&S action. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:12, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt, I followed the discussion. I realize that it was more about the process than about Fram, but I think that we should have assumed good faith in T&S and assumed that they had acted appropriately and worked with them to rectify the issues of process by passing it on to ArbCom. StudiesWorld (talk) 13:19, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- Do you remember how long it took to achieve this "passing it to arbcom"? To sentence someone without appeal is never "acting appropriately", in my limited view, and - last time - every attempt to resist has my approval. - Look, there are some around who believe that I am a disruptive warrior. They report me to T&S, and I can easily be the next. First they came ..., - it has to be stopped. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:25, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt, acting appropriately only in the sense that they had effectively identified harassment. I agree that no ban should be without appeal and I think the solution to that is to push for allowing appeals of T&S bans to the BoT. Given the failures of the community to address all forms of harassment, I am not comfortable saying that there is never a time that T&S should address harassment. StudiesWorld (talk) 13:39, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- I don't think that I could explain what I meant, but so be it. (If they identified, they failed to say so, and Floq's action was - to my memory - before they ever said something about it.) Old question if the purpose justifies the means, and may vary from case to case, - here, the means of ignoring community procedures, not warning the victim, and providing no appeal seem out of proportion. Harassment is awful, but not killing, nothing that has to be stopped on the spot. - I go out for the day now. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:46, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- I will not go and reaffirm. (Imagine everybody did that ...) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:04, 28 July 2019 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt, you didn't cause that, don't worry. I just heard reasonable points about the opposes and wanted to make clear that my opposition was not limited to my initial statement. I also saw the number of people reaffirming supports. In retrospect, it does seem a little petty of me. :) StudiesWorld (talk) 23:36, 28 July 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you, and I am open to the views of others ;) - I tell new editors: the only things we bold are article titles and working redirects, to make things more factual. I would have understood if - after this discussion - you had simply improved the reasoning for your oppose. but, could you please just remove that bolding ... - Floquenbeam happens to be the person on Wikipedia whom I trust most, did you know? ... the one who smiles with me when nobody else does? ... the one I turn to in distress? ("AC has evolved to the point where their main job is to identify and punish the guilty, not to try to unknot an intractible dispute. That seems an odd way for the top rung in the dispute resolution process to work.") --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:54, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

DYK for Lesbian erasure
On 28 July 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Lesbian erasure, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that some LGBTQ activists have opposed the use of the term "lesbian erasure", because it has sometimes been used in opposition to transgender rights? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Lesbian erasure. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Lesbian erasure), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Administrators' newsletter – August 2019
News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2019).
Interface administrator changes
|
|
- Following a request for comment, the page Wikipedia:Office actions has been changed from a policy page to an information page.
- A request for comment (permalink) is in progress regarding the administrator inactivity policy.
- Editors may now use the template {{Ds/aware}} to indicate that they are aware that discretionary sanctions are in force for a topic area, so it is unnecessary to alert them.
- Following a research project on masking IP addresses, the Foundation is starting a new project to improve the privacy of IP editors. The result of this project may significantly change administrative and counter-vandalism workflows. The project is in the very early stages of discussions and there is no concrete plan yet. Admins and the broader community are encouraged to leave feedback on the talk page.
- The new page reviewer right is bundled with the admin tool set. Many admins regularly help out at Special:NewPagesFeed, but they may not be aware of improvements, changes, and new tools for the Curation system. Stay up to date by subscribing here to the NPP newsletter that appears every two months, and/or putting the reviewers' talk page on your watchlist.
Since the introduction of temporary user rights, it is becoming more usual to accord the New Page Reviewer right on a probationary period of 3 to 6 months in the first instance. This avoids rights removal for inactivity at a later stage and enables a review of their work before according the right on a permanent basis.

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 6 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 7 August. It will be on all wikis from 8 August (calendar).
Problems
- A change in RelatedArticles extension accidentally enabled it for everyone, not just for mobile users. This has been fixed. [9][10]
Meetings
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 7 August at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- Today everyone can see IP addresses if someone edits without an account. In the future this could be more hidden. This is to protect unregistered editors so fewer can see their IP address. This would only happen after we make sure the tools for vandal fighting can still be effective. You can read more and comment.

DYK for We Come in Peace
On 5 August 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article We Come in Peace, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the 2018 art installation We Come in Peace was described as "eerie, other, unnerving, ambiguous, even alarming"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/We Come in Peace. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, We Come in Peace), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

/* Aaron Harmon Wikipedia page */
Hi again! I'm still having trouble figuring out how to get this approved. He is mentioned in the blackbear ANONYMOUS album credits on their Wikipedia page so doesn't that at least prove validity? https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Anonymous_(Blackbear_album). The other producer credited on this page has many Allmusic credits and he got approved? https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Andrew_Goldstein_(musician). I guess i'm just confused as he is a legitimate producer and if you search any of his projects mentioned along with his name they will show up. Thanks again for the help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Emilythornberg (talk • contribs) 20:56, 9 August 2019 (UTC)
- Emilythornberg, thanks for reaching out. I apologize for the delay, I have just been on a short wikibreak. The probelm with the Aaron Harmon article is that it does not cite any reliable sources and is lacking inline citations for most of its text. If those issues were resolved, I'd be happy to approve it. StudiesWorld (talk) 10:26, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
