Russian Memorial, St John sub Castro etc.

Nice work on these! I spotted the church on my watchlist by way of the change to List of places of worship in Lewes (district). I have lived just outside Lewes all my life and never knew this story – very interesting. I've just made a few additions, mainly an infobox and extra listing info. Cheers, Hassocks5489 (tickets please!) 12:52, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi Struway, thanks as usual for your footy FLC reviews. When you revisit the above FLC, can you comment on the 3b issue raised by Sandman? Thanks, Dabomb87 (talk) 14:15, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks

Hi Stru. I just wanted to say thanks for the additional comments here regarding the list of players. I agree with what you said and have now removed all of the players who didn't qualify based on appearances (thankfully there weren't too many). I noticed there was a sorting issue last night, it doesn't seem to sort right when the header row is split into multiple sections, so I had to go through that and make sure it all sorted correctly. I've also added captions and references to all of the free pictures. I've left the others for now because Chris pointed out that some reviewers might not find them acceptable (no point doing them until I'm sure they need to be removed). What is your view on it? How are the final stub articles coming along? I had a look at William Baker's history earlier and discovered that he was killed in France during the First World War, very sad. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 17:28, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

Its funny that you mention {{PD-US-1923-abroad}}. That is what I originally tagged them with before Chris pointed out here that they are eligible for {{PD-UK}}. I'm much more knowledgeable about it than I used to be, but I'm no expert either and I doubt that I ever will be. Take as long as you need with the stubs, I didn't want to come across like I was badgering you. I don't want to take it to FLC until there are no redlinks and its been a benefit, otherwise I would've probably nominated the list as it was a few days ago and I've tweaked a number of things since then - that sorting issue was a real pain in the arse! Argyle 4 Lifetalk 18:54, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
Excellent, thankyou so much. I'd imagine Harry Cann was taller, from what I've seen he looks atleast as tall as me (6ft 2in), but I can't think of where another reliable source would be. I've been aware of the British Pathé clip for quite some time and have watched it alot. The past has always fascinated me. I'd love to go back in time to watch old teams (if only we had guys like Black, Leslie, Cock and Bowden today!) and experience what Plymouth used to be like before the German's bombed it (trams :D). If you need an extra pair of hands in the future just give me a shout. Cheers. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 20:31, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Pola de lena

Hi Struway2. That seems right. One way to explain very well the situation is to wright "Pola de Lena (Lena)" when other alternatives don't look rigorous enough. I always thought "Lena" was sufficient, as it's a rather small municipality. "Pola de Lena" is the largest parish of the municipality. Regards.--Banderas (talk) 09:25, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

  • Also about this player (sorry my "butting in" :), to Stru: i have readjusted, now much more clearer, the 3rd paragraph of the "SPORTING DE GIJÓN" section; in accordance to WP policy, i have renamed the word "topflight" with commonname "La Liga", when i refer to the 2007-08 promotion by the club. Hence, when you write about the season following said promotion (2008-09), it HAS to be "La Liga" as well, quite understandable, no need anymore (hopefully) to write "2008-09 La Liga season".

Hope you (finally!) agree with me Struway, have a cool week and keep it up - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 16:22, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Pieces and bits :)

Hi there STRUWAY,

about your lesson on approaching an article, here's my "defense":

1 - i honestly thought it looked better with a comma after the club a player plays in, but i have no pretention of speaking English better then a native folk...Case solved V!

2 - i thought fullnames should be removed if they coincided with playernames, i see that they do not. You made a great and clever point there mate, i will also stop doing that...Case solved V!

3 - i tend to remove refs that already exist as links, because i don't see the point in repeating a source. Could you please elaborate on that one better please? Thanks a million...Still not solved X!

Cheers, keep it up - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 21:12, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Again, Mr.Hyde wins :(

Hi there STRU, VASCO here,

Yes, again i have underachieved in my summaries, although i have never insulted anyone in the two which were referred to in your message.

1 - really nothing to add, again my hysterics got the best of me; 2 - i wrote "meaningless seasons" because the player did not play once in two FULL seasons, if that's not meaningless... But don't worry, i have already rephrased Manolo.

I think i might need your help mediating in this situation, or someone's. Can you tell me if my approach is correct in this message to User:Jeppiz (please see here http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:Jeppiz#UJFALUSI)? Thanks in advance, regards - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 21:47, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

Stats table

About a link and a dash, it is my mistake.

About a template, I made a new template; {{Football player club statistics 1}}-{{Football player club statistics 5}}.

When we used {{Football player club statistics 1}}-5, we can display only league. (e.g. Lev Yashin) But when we used {{Football player statistics 1}}-5, we can not do it. (e.g. Lev Yashin old revision) I want you to use new template; {{Football player club statistics 1}}-5 than {{Football player statistics 1}}-5. cheers, --Nameless User (talk) 11:16, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

I originally made an addition of Aberdeen stats and then looking at the listed sources I couldn't see how years at clubs were being known. Is it the case though that the Birmingham City book goes into that level of detail about his overall career and includes years for various clubs? If so, I think it would be useful to add a few more in-line citations for the Matthews book. Regards. Eldumpo (talk) 06:47, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for adding the in-line citations. I should've messaged you before I made those changes to the years, it was just it seemed unlikely that the book would have that info, and on Wiki years of playing career are often assumed by some, so sorry about that. Eldumpo (talk) 21:19, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Re: Geoff Marlow

Hi. The Category:Minor Counties cricketers was created 3 weeks ago, but did exist prior to that. If my memory serves me correctly, an American Wikipedian moved it to Category:Minor counties cricketers without raising it for discussion. WP:CRIC challenged it as the category exists for those cricketers who have represented the combined Minor Counties cricket team (which helpfully links to the Minor counties article). The description wasn't there before, but was added when the category name was reinstated. So a Lincolnshire cricketer would simply now be Category:English cricketers and Category:Lincolnshire cricketers. Apologies for any confusion! AssociateAffiliate (talk) 15:56, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Hey there. I can't say I did fancy de-catting so many articles in one go. Especially not without HotCat, anyway. Maybe it's worth adding to my account – I guess you'd recommend it, eh? Any chance you "fancy" doing a Good Article review for one of my recent additions, Borussia Mönchengladbach 12–0 Borussia Dortmund? It was added to DYK? today, but I've never written a GA before, let alone reviewed one. If you could help and show me the process, seeing as you've written seven already, I'd really appreciate it. Darlington IPs

You may have noticed on your watchlist that I have finally reached the end of my tether and protected the page for a year due to the repeated nature of the edits. They are showing an impressive level of tenacity but there has not been one single word of discussion from them despite repeated requests. I would appreciate if you could keep an eye out for edit requests on the talkpage but I don't see that many IP edits in the history so I'm not expecting a flood.

P.S. the derby game was something of a let-down wasn't it! Regards, Woody (talk) 23:34, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for that, I blocked them for it but didn't revert it, bit of an oversight on my part! Really is tedious now!
I hope the next game is better, can't be any worse. Woody (talk) 23:24, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
It was odd, I have been tracking the IPs in a sandbox to test range-blocks but they are far too wide and changing to do that. I keep asking for discussion, hopefully they will heed now there is nowhere to turn (except lots of socks).
I think we are going for a full line-up (which isn't much at the moment given our 10-man injury bench), Houllier and Randy want some silverware, show Martin where he went wrong. Woody (talk) 00:10, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

As a fan of St. Patrick's Athletic I know first hand that your sources are wrong regarding his appearances and goals for the club. Although I cannot help you regarding the Galway United stats, I would just like to let you know that your sources, although they are clearly marked, are incorrect and the website you have used has been incorrect on many occasion in the past. Also he was not released by the club. The manager at St. Pat's offered him a new deal and he turned down the terms offered and so the club were not able to retain his services. --Seinvicibles08 —Preceding undated comment added 14:52, 23 November 2010 (UTC).

Zigic man - reply

Hi there STRUWAY, VASCO here,

i really should not waste time with that stuff (the full names in storyline i mean), it's just i have selected that approach, and it gets hard to "re-teach" myself. I am sorry for any incovenience, if you revert it again it will for the better i know.

About the "league vs. Premier League" stuff, it's really simple methinks: unless it is referred to in storyline that Birmingham was relegated, one should say, in the beginning "X player signed for Birmingham in the Premier League", then just "league" would suffice because, if we did not mention anything about relegation, i assume people would know he would play in the top flight.

Again, sorry for any incovenience, regards - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 17:55, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

  • Also, thanks for removing the vandalism in my talk page. I have longsince stopped "feeding" the trolls - only a couple of "strong" summaries, but that's all - but the idiot kids continue on my case, calling me all kind of vile crap. re: Miguel Julio Garcia

I agree with your findings. He appears to have been just age 19 when he signed with the Sockers and never appeared for the first team. I also saw the mention about him playing with Guadalajara, but that most likely was as a youth (I found no mentions of him at mediotiempo.com). I didn't intend to contest the prod; it looks doubtful that he passes the GNG or ATHLETE. I was just adding a cite to remove the article from the unsourced list. Best regards. --Shirt58 (talk) 10:06, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Apologies for the confusion, but I should have pointed out that there may be a bit of a problem with the links. The birth date of 1907 for Bernard comes from the 1911 census - http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/results4.aspx?x=52157731 - but from there it's a bit complicated. www.thisisannouncements.co.uk/5714585?s_source=clmi_innl shows that Bernard was married to a Mary Smith and died in 1988; www2.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/information.pl?r=164608086&d=bmd_1293526012 shows it is the Bernard Smith we are after. That may or may not be too complicated to place on the page - what would you recommend? In terms of the Cringan/Randle story, it comes from a contemporaneous newspaper article, but from an unidentifed paper. I can send you a scanned copy (over talk or email), but how would that be shown on the page? Thanks, Rssrufff — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rssrufff (talkcontribs) 20:49, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi there - thanks for getting in touch, and sorry I've been a while in replying. Totally understand undoing the changes - it was very much a first attempt at changing something. I have identified sources for all of the facts I inserted, with the exception of the story over Randle and Cringan being injured in their first games. The game against Derby was Birmingham's fifth that season, so it is not entirely likely they both only played once. Is the best way to proceed to send you the sourcing, or to redo the changes citing references? Seeking advice

After hearing of his plight, and the planned scarf tribute to him, I decided to do my bit by expanding Neil Young (footballer born 1944). I've been pondering whether or not to add the material in the second paragraph of the Personal life section (particularly the suicide attempt), what with it being a BLP of someone currently going though difficult times. I deliberately waited until after it had been on the Main Page for DYK for this reason, but ultimately included it on the grounds that Young himself put it in his autobiography. So basically I'm looking for some feedback from a couple of editors whose opinions I hold in particularly high esteem.

PS You've been doing great work on some of the Unref'd BLPs. Oldelpaso (talk) 21:04, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Glad I got the article to GA before he passed on, given that more people will have viewed/will be viewing the article this week than perhaps the whole preceding year. On another and not at all Wikipedia-related note, St. Andrews is one of the most confusingly laid out grounds I've ever been to. Running late on Wednesday night we hit the Aston Expressway with 25 mins to kickoff, yet by some miracle arrived at one side of the Gil Merrick Stand as the teams were being read out. However, we were met by "home supporters only" signs, with no indication as to where away fans should go. We then discovered that we had go across a bridge, through a school playground and housing estate to get to Coventry Road, before we could finally turn groundwards and enter the away end. I'd been watching the game for a good few minutes before I turned to the scoreboard and discovered it was 1–0. Oldelpaso (talk) 17:57, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Regarding the 2004 Allsvenskan, if he was with the team in that season, well he won it no, even he did not play in the season (for instance, in Carles Busquets, he has a massive list of honours, and i doubt he appeared he most of those accolades).

Marseille

I suppose that's reasonable. I was inclined to use "Marseille" throughout the article simply because that's what we've done in most other articles, but I guess WP:WAX isn't a valid reason. Then again, I would still suggest that we use "Marseille" all the way through, and only use "Olympique Marseille" when there is an ambiguity issue, e.g. confusion between the club and the city. – PeeJay 12:21, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

Redirects

Hello. Noticed you changing the link to Bradford PA at Jeff Hall (footballer). You may want to save yourself a bit of work, and have a look at WP:NOTBROKEN, which says there's no need to fix redirected links unless they're actually broken. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:31, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi Struway2, although not absolutely necessary, the process of fixing redirected links has identified ambiguous links to, e.g. Bradford F.C., which must be either Bradford Park Avenue A.F.C. or Bradford City A.F.C., some of which I've managed to correct, so it's not been completely futile. Best Regards. DynamoDegsy (talk) 14:03, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

How to deal with that most reliable of sources

I was wondering if I could seek your guidance on the issues arising from this edit. Scroll down very slightly, and you should be able to get all three commented statements on your screen at the same time. I have reliable sources to back up all three concerns ([3] [4] and [5]), but am unsure how to proceed. Dale Bennett's substitute appearance seems to have been missed by most sources other than the Watford Observer and BBC Three Counties Radio, while Marvin Sordell's substitute appearance appears to be a Soccerbase error that most others picked up on. The goal is admittedly a subject of debate which we should probably side with Soccerbase on, but I figured that I might as well mention it while I was here. —WFC18:42, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the help. I think fiddly truth is what we should go for, provided it's explained properly. Working on a couple of other things today, but I'll get onto Sordell and Bennett pretty soon. As far as the goal goes, at the moment the BBC match report (my usual port of call for season articles) says Graham, but Soccerbase says Deeney. Both players have claimed it. I've deliberately held back from updating the season article with that in mind, because the worst thing I could do is be internally inconsistent. —WFC18:30, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
I'll stick with what's currently there then. In this instance, we're lucky that Graham is in contention to be top scorer, as the issue is more likely to be definitely resolved than it otherwise would have. Thanks again, —WFC19:15, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

Hello Struway. The link included in the CSD tag refers to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nico Yennaris. Is Roarie Deacon and Nico Yennaris the same person? --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 10:46, 26 March 2011 (UTC)

Good morning. I have now added the project tag to the discussion pages that needed it, so they should get picked up by the bot soon. I assumed they already had the tag yesterday which was lazy on my part. Regards. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 10:45, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

DYK for 1892–93 Small Heath F.C. season

The DYK project (nominate) 16:02, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Hey man, it looks like we've got another problem at 1991 European Cup Final. I believe it's the same anon back again trying to highlight Serbia's status as the successor to Yugoslavia's football record. I think I may have already exceeded WP:3RR, so I would appreciate some help. – PeeJay 07:41, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi Struway2,

Thanks for the heads up. I've never really edited wikipedia before (apart from a few minor things here and there) so wasn't aware of those rules etc... I hadn't realise I was breaking any rules and hadn't thought about the consequences. I'll refrain from posting links to the site from now on. :-)

Thanks

Query

Hi, I have seen and been impressed by your recent creations of Small Heath season articles. I am especially interested in the depth of sourcing - how have you accessed so many historical local newspapers? Such sources would be very helpful in my attempt to improve some of my season articles, and I assume that you have not visited all these local libraries as far afield as Preston, Liverpool and Sheffield? Are the newspaper archives available online? Cheers, BigDom (talk) 11:21, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

As have I, very impressive. You have inspired me to take on our first professional season as my next project. If you spot anything about our early history that looks useful then I would appreciate it if you pass it on to me so it'll be there for future reference. I remember I still owe you for the player articles you created! Argyle 4 Lifetalk 17:22, 15 April 2011 (UTC)
It seems I actually do have free access to the same collection (I assume it is the 19th Century British Library newspapers) through my Lancashire library card! So hopefully this will help me to create a few more articles for some of our earlier seasons at least. Thanks for the offer to look things up but it appears I won't need you to now. Cheers, BigDom (talk) 21:23, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the help

Hi Struway2, I was the user editing the BCFC season pages recently to include the sending-offs (bit obsessive I guess!). Thanks for the advice, I sourced the timings from the BBC match reports but as you pointed out obviously got details like 36th/37th minute wrong. I haven't edited Wikipedia before so hopefully won't make mistakes like that in future. Congrats on your contributions to BCFC articles by the way, I had a look at your profile and it's great that you've added so much. All the best, A Abrutissant (talk) 21:16, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

1892–93 Small Heath F.C. season

Thanks for the note. IMHO, the article is not far off "B" standard. As you say, a few more illustrations would be good. How about the one of the Coventry Road stadium?

Other areas you could think about:

  1. The squad statistics would be better if the table was sortable.
  2. I like to see the matches colour coded, e.g green for a win, pink/red for a defeat and cream/yellow for a draw.
  3. Personally, I like to keep the League and Cup seasons separate, although as the FA Cup season was so short, this may not be a problem.
  4. Can you add the team strips (home and away) to the infobox?
  5. Finally, how about adding a table of player transfers in & out?

I hope this helps. Best wishes. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 19:08, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the comments. The sortable table I used here looks OK, I think. I note your comments about the illustrations - I don't think that alone will prevent the article being upgraded to "B"; likewise, with the player movements, if the information is not available. Cheers. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 15:56, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

p.s. I see that the only season article from the same era that has been promoted as a Good Article concerns one of your local rivals (see here). Personally, I don't think it merits GA status, but that just goes to show how subjective the whole issue is! DK

I have re-rated the article as "B" class. I think you should now aim for GA status. Best wishes. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 19:57, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the note and very kind offer - I'll let you know if I need any help. Cheers. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 19:18, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
Well done getting this to GA status. I thought no-one would ever look at it. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 12:29, 18 April 2011 (UTC) p.s. my Sunderland supporting colleague says can you let Chelsea thrash you on Wednesday!

United Counties League

Thanks for the welcome back. I'm not sure I'll be as active as before but I may well do a bit of tidying on some of those league season articles as well as continuing to work on WBA season articles. I was just wondering about the United Counties League mentioned in 1893–94 Small Heath F.C. season. There is an article United Counties Football League, to which United Counties League redirects, but there appears to be no connection with the 1894 league. Do you think it would be worth creating a separate article about the 1894 league? I can provide match details (date, opponent, score, WBA scorers, WBA line-up, attendance) of all WBA games in that competition. Cheers. ---Jameboy (talk) 23:27, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

It wasn't actually deleted after a discussion - that's AfD (or MfD and RfD as appropriate) only. I deleted it under CSD A7 following it being tagged, and as it hasn't shown any improvement, I've done the same again. Peridon (talk) 19:48, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi there STRUWAY, VASCO here,

i tried in this player's page, but no chance, my edits were immediately reverted, pronto. Why a ref for the player's birth and height? So that those are not vandalized? The vandals vandalize everything, not just those areas. If it's only for reference purposes, why not ref all his clubs and his full name? I'll never understand that approach, maybe it's just me...

The only thing i should not have done was to show Greek club names in full, sorry for that (i do remind however, that those were redirects prior to my edits). However, i do think that there should be TWO links not ONE regarding the competition of the Greek Cup, one regarding the competition proper, the other referring to the 2010/11 edition. But don't worry, i won't edit it again.

Speaking of which: maybe i'll just stop editing English players (haven't really) and/or players who play in the country, most of my contributions will be given no chance so why bother? Furthermore, this area is well covered by the likes of you, Matty, Chris, Wolcott, Chris II, and i am not being sarcastic, you do a great job, we just have different approaches, VERY different ones.

By the way, the REF to back Míchel's birthdate and place is DEAD, but i won't edit it again. Attentively, regards from Portugal - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 16:12, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

  • Thanks for your kind and to-the-point answer my friend, as always. Last time i clicked on it, the LFS.es link led to the website alright, but not to the player in question. Must be "something in the air"...Cheers, keep it up - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 21:03, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Is that OK on his part, especially without summary? I think not. Cheers - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 23:14, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

DYK for 1893–94 Small Heath F.C. season

The DYK project (nominate) 06:02, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Re your message, I have added the page number, although I don't normally for this book due to the nature of the text i.e. alphabetical entries. I'm not sure why you moved the reference in the intro to only cover the first part of the sentence, as the whole of the sentence is ref'd from the source, even with the addition of Walsall. Eldumpo (talk) 15:49, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

Fair enough, not referring explicitly to Football League is minor, but I see his Wales caps is not actually mentioned at the source. For info I'm taking this article off my watchlist if someone like yourself is keeping a close eye on it - can't remember why it was on there. Regards. Eldumpo (talk) 16:09, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

Cheers

Thanks for the message. Going into the game on Monday I still believed we could stay up but it was always going to be tough to beat Southampton. It's been the worst season in my 15 years as a supporter but everyone at the club has pulled together so much and getting relegated again is of little consequence right now. Hopefully things will be sorted by June and we can begin trying to climb back up the ladder again. I hope you guys stay up, one more point should be enough. My sister's partner comes from Birmingham and is a massive Villa fan, so he was in a right huff when you won the League Cup! Argyle 4 Lifetalk 16:49, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I assume the 2nd paragraph of his playing career can be directly cited to the Tony Matthews book, but I just wanted to check that was the case, and if so perhaps you could make the change? Also, note the discrepancy between the two (reliable) sources for his Walsall stats. Do you know of a third source? Is there anywhere on-line with historical Birmingham City player stats? Thanks. Eldumpo (talk) 09:36, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for adding citation and note. I have received the Hugman info and have added this to the article. One point though is that the other online sources all refer to him as a winger, so I think this ought to be added to his position alongside outside forward. My question on BCFC stats was more a non-Wikipedia one, but having seen the two List articles (and noting that they are complete/referenced) then they can suffice for total apps. Does the Matthews book list player stats by season/competition? Regards. Eldumpo (talk) 09:28, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
I have changed the position, although it was very much "change-over" time in terms of naming of footballing positions as far as I'm aware, and I'm going on the other web sources rather than saying that players should not be referred to as outside forwards in that period. Re BC stats it was a general query as I've been doing some club career tables recently, and noted that Birmingham was one of the larger clubs without a full online stats presence. If I come across Birmingham players I need stats for I will ask you to look them up if that's OK. Eldumpo (talk) 09:49, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for that link. Having had a quick look I think it is of some merit for Wikipedia and thus I have added it to List of Birmingham City F.C. records and statistics#External links, although you may feel my text needs changing, or that other parts of the archive should be directly linked. Eldumpo (talk) 10:10, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Darlington F.C.

Hey, I don't have any book sources, sorry. I was surprised at how well reference the article was, I think it really just needs tidying and expanded in a few places before possibly going for a GA. I was moving the references to the end of the sentences because it makes the article easier to read and less interrupted. Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(footnotes)#Ref tags, spacing and punctuation says either is acceptable, and I've never had a problem working that way; I find it makes it easier to read a sentence when editing. Fintan264 (talk) 16:19, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi there STRUWAY, VASCO from Portugal here,

more than one year since this message right (please see here http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:Erminameraz#Footballer_infobox_stats)? Well, the user continues to do just that: stats updated, PC the same, even though he was fairly not to do so.

So, we have two options: 1 - he has not yet noticed the "you have new messages" banner above; 2 - he has but does not care. Where to go from here? Summaries are also absent on his part, ZERO!

Attentively, keep up the good work - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 11:43, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Vandal? Most likely

Hi there STRUWAY, VASCO here,

regarding this message i sent to newbie User:GreyBeyond (please see here http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:GreyBeyond), and keeping in mind the contents of said "letter" were 100% true on my part, no false accusations, i think this may be a guy to watch out for. I did not use the correct templates once again, but i did not shout either :)

He also edited some English football articles, did not watch those for vandalism tough. Regarding User:Erminameraz (see above, the guy with the PC updates), he is better but he continues to engage in the behaviour, meaning: he updates the STATISTICS chart, but does not do the same in infobox.

Kind regards, cheers - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 21:07, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

Commiserations. There's little worse than last day relegation. Far better to be gone with games to spare like West Ham than be given hope that gets snatched away. Oldelpaso (talk) 17:49, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
Bad times. Look on the bright side though, at least you might win a few games next season ;) Not against us though, preferably. BigDom 17:53, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
That's what I thought this time last year! I hoped that I wouldn't have to return the favour but here I am, bleddy Wigan. Enjoy Europe next season, hopefully you'll go far, and hopefully Carson's people are intelligent and organised enough so that you don't self-destruct like we did. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 19:19, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks... I still haven't forgiven whoever it was started the rumour that Stoke had scored. There are many Blues fans who thought they'd never live to see us win something. Compared to that, I'll take relegation (so long as the club doesn't actually go bust), it's hardly a novelty in the last few years.
And just for Woody: going down, who gives a f—, we knocked the Villa out the Carling Cup... (repeat to fade)... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 22:34, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

Seb Larsson

I can try to do it. I have basically been editing footballers' pages I like recently and expanding them ( Lucho, Lisandro, Kalou, Caicedo ). I basicallly got most of the information from ESPN's soccer website, it has a bunch of statistics for teams, individual players and has great match reports and then combined it with personal knowledge of the players and info from other sources as well, Sky Sports and Daily Mail. So if I don't expand the page and you want to, I think that is a pretty good platform to build from! Rupert1904 (talk) 00:39, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

Well you must have two talk pages because I clicked on your talk page and it sent me to where I wrote it. Rupert1904 (talk) 22:30, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi there STRUWAY, VASCO here (and again, sorry to bother you),

regarding the message that you sent this user, i feel his approach (at least) in Lucho González is totally wrong, he pratically refers to EVERY GAME he played in while at Marseille, with references to goals scored by OTHER players and games he did not appear in. In what way is that relevant? I remember quite clearly exposing this at WP:FOOTY twice, and there i was told (twice) you don't write like this, with that "tsunami of info", only relevant stuff (milestones, debut). He engages in match-by-match commentary, and even more, detailed commentary WITHIN the SAME match (paragraphs of 10, 15 lines where González is not mentioned ONCE). If that belongs anywhere, it's in the Marseille page, don't you agree?

I have also sent him a message explaining this, and have spent the last hour composing González's article. Of course, he will undo me immediately, "preferably" without any feedback. Cheers - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 23:00, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Hair clinic

Clinic itself may not be notable but the procedure of which it is one of the pioneers most certainly is. Perhaps it should be moved to follicular transfer and an article written about the procdure which just mentions the clinic? If you google and book search it that procedure it notable.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:53, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Me neither, I'm not qualified either to really know if FT is different to the FUE. But it picks up loads of hits in google books called follicular transfer and I believe this clinic is notable as being one of the pioneers of it. I agree an advert is not a good idea but I'll try to write an informed article on it which briefly mentions the clinic.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:19, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

I've improved Follicular unit extraction and think it is now satisfactory and in the appropriate context to mention this clinic.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:19, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi there STRUWAY, VASCO here,

after you warned this chap, he continues (see here http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Royston_Drenthe&diff=432898119&oldid=432262748). Sure, a youth club that does not even have a WP article, but that's not the point, this vandal has to be dealed with.

Why are these IPs/accounts not blocked on sight and its owners are still shown the courtesy they do not display towards others? Mind-boggling...Cheers - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 00:47, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi Struway, hope you can get back online soon! Just to let you know that I've blocked Squares18 (talk · contribs) indefinitely as, almost immediately after the lifting of his 6 month block he reverted to exactly the same version of the Darlington F.C. page. It is extraordinary how s/he continues to do the same thing after almost two years of being asked to communicate with other editors. It shows amazing commitment, if only it could be diverted into editing constructively! I see it's GA now which is mainly built on your ground work so well done on that! Now we have to wait and see whether Randy/McLeish prove to be vindicated next season. I hope so! All the best, Woody (talk) 18:14, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

Welcome back

Good to see that you've returned. I found something interesting regarding Small Heath that could be added to the 1894–95 season. A few weeks ago, Greens on Screen began releasing a comprehensive account of the history of Plymouth Argyle, 17 chapters in all. It has been absolutely brilliant so far, I've learnt so much about our early history and in amongst it there was a part about Home Park Football Club, the team Small Heath played in a friendly. The attendance was 4,000 according to this section.

It's funny how things turned out. Back then we were an amateur club in the Devon League and there was an awful lot of teams of a similar standing in Plymouth. Home Park A.F.C. were created in an attempt to bring professional football to the south west but they only lasted until 1896. When Small Heath played them Argyle had just been shut down and didn't return until 1897. Had many people in Southern England not been so against professional football at the time, the club I support now would be very different. I know that on Wikipedia nobody owns an article, but I'll leave it to you to decide whether it should be added because that article came from all of your hard work. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 17:16, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Indeed, the only relation to Argyle is some of the players, especially Jimmy Lynes; quite a character who had a number of run-ins with the Devon FA. He played in the Football League for Leicester Fosse and Lincoln City, but was banned down here for getting paid to play! No wonder Arsenal gave up on trying to bring professional football to the south and joined the Football League instead. Do you have a soft spot for Lincoln City by the way? I remember the featured list you did about their players. Or just thought why not? I recently saw a list of results for San Marino by Miyagawa and felt inspired. The Faroes aren't as bad as some people make them out to be. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 20:27, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi there STRUWAY, VASCO here,

seriously, this is getting out of hand, this anon England-based user is giving me no rest (and he can also be User:Demis21, as he also wrote the same shenanigans in another AEK player article - see here http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Juan_Torres_Ruiz&diff=437881829&oldid=437801290 - also advising with a hidden box message to stay the hell out of editing his team's players), i elaborate:

1 - He turns CAREER sub-sections (you know the ones with the club's names) in three per se sections, i tidy it up, he undoes me again, so we have FOOTBALL CAREER (empty), SEVILLA and AEK, cool...; 2 - i add Sevilla FC C in box (it's a senior club and José Carlos played for it), he removes it, i add the correct Sevilla FC totals (18 games and one goal, as www.bdfutbol.com clearly indicates), he changes it to 31/5; 3 - the gross error saying that he was sent on loan to FC Cartagena in January 2011 after the arrival of coach Marcelino García Toral, who did not arrive until July (i correct it, he reverts me)!!; 4 - the POV and the WEASEL in AEK: he joined because "he wants to play UEFA Europa League" (when Sevilla is also playing the competition this season!!), he joined because "he has a GREAT relationship with Manuel Jiménez Jiménez the coach", he joined "even though all these teams wanted him", and he writes this without one single reference, i tidy it up, keeping the basics, he undoes me; 5 - i add three new pertinent categories, he removes them. Help me please (and help WP)!

I have already messaged both IP addresses (he is dynamic 100% sure, at least has used three here, what's the point in messaging someone that probably will never read the message?) and user Demis, have received ZERO in reply...then i lose my temper (duly or unduly) and i get the scolding, what can be done?

Keep in mind, not justifying my at times obnoxious edit summaries, but i only want the articles to be the best they can, do these folks want it too? I doubt it...Cheers - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 14:17, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Endash in footballbox

Hello, I think the MOS:NDASH refers to the grammatically correct use of it in a sentence or phrase rather than in strictly a display format such as in template:footballbox and template:footballbox collapsible. Major football articles that use those templates, like 2010 FIFA World Cup Final, 2010–11 UEFA Champions League knockout phase, and 2010–11 FC Barcelona season, all use the spaces around the endash so I think it would only make sense to follow this implied convention. What do you think? Vanadus (talk) 22:36, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

That's a very interesting discussion you bring up. It makes me wonder why WP:FOOTY proceeded to ignore the possible MoS violation after it was identified. Vanadus (talk) 21:24, 1 August 2011 (UTC)

Ah. I hadn't scrolled down that far. I just did a ctrl+f for Hughton and input the new figures and unfortunately my screen didn't display the info you pointed me to. Thanks for advising me on that. Regards, Mac Tíre Cowag 09:30, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks - Doubt

Hi there STRUWAY, thanks for your assistance in the Quique Flores "business",

Really i think it's time for me to leave WP! According to this (please see here http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Xxxx693), User:Scoelho86, who seemed pretty supportive of my work against the Quique Flores nuisance, has edited in the same computer as User:Lombriz de Aguapuerca, one of the socks?! What the hey?! Feeling very sad and confused (as i said before, no friends in real life, still time to make enemies in the virtual world), and the checkuser is not 100% conclusive also. How come Lombriz is blocked and not User:Xxxx693?

I'll back away for a couple of days, keeping Flores' page on my watchlist. My userpage keeps being vandalized by that IDIOT, i have enough mental problems as it is (bipolar) to deal with this. Kind regards - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 00:37, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Back from the grave!

Hi there STRUWAY, VASCO here,

regarding this message you sent User:Bruno corinthiano (see here http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:Bruno_corinthiano#Miguel_Marcos_Madera), i have started a discussion about a Brazilian "user" at WP:FOOTY, who has the same M.O.: several stuff removed in box, including the captions of pictures.

This guy most likely will become a major nuisance if he sets his heart into it (if you read the discussion you'll see what i mean). Cheers, happy weekend - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 18:28, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Scott Dann

Because the link to Arsenal was never confirmed. No official sources or real forms of evidence were ever produced to say Arsenal had ever bid on the player. User:RoverTheBendInSussex (talk) 15:42, 31 August 2011 (GMT)

When it involves Rovers, your damn sure i am quick off the blocks! Haha!

1- Sky Sports quite frequently get it wrong. It's always worth backing it up with confirmation from the BBC at the very least. 2- Dann has been linked with Rovers since early yesterday so it is hardly breaking news. User:RoverTheBendInSussex (talk) 16:22, 31 August 2011 (GMT)

But if a transfer stops dead at a certain stage it can be explained that it stopped at the medical stage or the agreeing a fee stage etc. That is how it has happened before on other player pages. User:RoverTheBendInSussex (talk) 17:03, 31 August 2011 (GMT)

Hi there STRUWAY, VASCO here,

once again, i knew almost everything would be reverted, only wanted to help, i guess i did not. Now - but i have the courtesy of notifying you - i have made some more edits, namely some "breathing space" in introduction and some more info therein (number of La Liga games played, at his age and with the "fame" he has in Spain it's unlikely he'll return to his country's top division, but if he does we'll change it; World Cup participation).

I don't know why you people do that, but OK, i won't do it anymore, Spain and England stay without wikilink. Also, why do we need to state - twice - that the Football League Championship is the second tier when everybody that cares about football - 99,99999% in England and slightly less abroad - knows that it is the second level? Again, i respect your work, i won't touch it anymore.

Also, "turned" one link into two regarding the 2011-12 UEFA Europa League (competition AND season of competition, pretty much as i had done in Miguel Marcos Madera a few months ago, you did not allow it). Hope my last paltry chances can be allowed to stay, if not, i'll leave Ibáñez's article in peace.

Cheers, happy weekend - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 14:27, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the prompt reply/input. Regarding the "THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE PLAYERS" category, i took on a WP:CRYSTAL approach, assuming the obvious - he's a Spanish international playing in a second division, he's bound to play some games there - but i was wrong to do so, sorry, he has not appeared in league yet.

Cheers again - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 16:56, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

well, I supposed to add (unsourced addition of sensitive numbers), but you know body (no one is infallible). Thank you for reminding and have a good day. Cheers Sean (Ask Me?) 18:19, 25 September 2011 (UTC)

Žigić

Hello. I have nothing against that source. As a matter of fact, I use data from that site regularly. But the thing is that, as far as FIFA or UEFA are concerned, SCG = Serbia. For instance Serbia national team took all the fixtures, results, coefficients of SCG national team. Like those in Euro 2008 qualification. In fact FIFA and UEFA both contribute to Serbian national team all the results of ex Yugoslavia teams. From 1919 til its break-up. As it's seen in Serbia's profiles on their sites: UEFA and FIFA. Same principle is applied for all players who represented both of those national teams. It is similar as for players who represented West Germany and Germany. Players like Jürgen Klinsmann.

Inline references - Reply

Hi there STRUWAY, VASCO here,

1 - Andy van der Meyde: i just tend to dislike NFT.com as a ref, i prefer sources with mere stats as links (of course i don't dictate anything around here, just an opinion). I only wanted to improve the article's overall display - in my eyes, could be wrong though - got scolded for that :(

2 - Borja Granero: the storyline started in the middle - like saying Cristiano Ronaldo signed for ManU in the 2007 summer, with nothing before. Here, i admit it, i was even more wrong, had no business removing it, but improving on it, which i now did. I also did the same (guilty!) in three other Recreativo de Huelva players, am taking care of that as of...NOW!

Attentively, sorry for any inconvenience, happy weekend - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 10:27, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi - sorry to bother you. I'm thinking of creating an article on Sid Scholey whow managed Walsall in 1929–30. His bio on the Walsall website [6] says that he was briefly caretaker-manager of Birmingham in 1927–28. If I create the article, would you be able to add anything about his time with the "Blues"? Thanks for any help. --Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 11:58, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the response and taking the time out to look. Pity you drew a blank on Scholey, but at least your time wasn't wasted. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 19:52, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Yes, i noticed that situation too. I'd too would go for 1st Nov with a note of him being caretaker. -Koppapa (talk) 15:42, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi there STRUWAY, VASCO here,

regarding this (please see here http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#AfD_-_User:MYS77), i was in no way meaning "warning" as in "You silly man, stop what you're doing or else!", i meant "warning" as in redirecting him towards the proper guidelines. If you feel offended by my choice of words in an event in which you also are referred, i apologize.

However (and again), i get the feeling i try to help and still get a bit scolded/mocked (i.e. "...all of which are properly referenced (not just a list of external links...)" or "It'd be a shame if people started "warning" such a contributor"). If that isn't the case, nevermind.

Another one regarding MYS77 (whose best intentions i never doubted): Ever-improving English? I just browsed through D'Alessandro's article, and will definitely improve on its language, if i "can". Cheers - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 13:30, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

More my friend: yes the creations i referred to in my WP:FOOTY report are old, but i only found out about them NOW, and i know for sure a couple UD Almería B guys are still AfD material. Still on my report, the Valencia CF Mestalla bit is not responsibility of MYS, but another user, i apologize for any confusion, and for any incovenience overall, was only trying to help.

Redirects

Hi there STRU, VASCO here,

really, i thought i was helping in Miguel Marcos Madera's page. Again, i repeat the following: i'm as dumb as they come regarding WP technicalities, i admit candidly i have not read 99,99999999% of them. Duly noted your observation (hence i do not know why do you think "it's hopeless to expect you will take notice"), will fare better in the future; the only thing i thought was a given was that the word "redirect" was bad, pretty much.

Wish you a better 2012 than i do for myself, take care and kind regards - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 19:13, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for keeping an eye on Djebbour's topic and reverting when necessary. As you have noticed, it's almost a daily occurrence with his article where people change his stats. Can that be considered vandalism and is there any chance we can get protection for the article? Thanks. TonyStarks (talk) 03:27, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Anon user

Hi there.

I noticed your recent edit to John Carew, and I believe that the anon user in question, 217.168.83.42, is the same person as 85.89.0.161 (his old IP: 85.89.8.107) which is currently blocked for 6 months due to disruptive edits. They have the same pattern of editing, updating infobox without timestamp (mostly Norwegians but also others), making and updating "recent history" sections on Norwegian football clubs and making and updating "career statistics" on Norwegian footballers. The first IP is according to it's talk page a district school in Norway, so there are some edits that differs from the other IP's. Also a thing to notice, is that while the blocked IP edited in the morning and afternoon/evening, the other IP (the one you are undoing edits from atm) is editing between 08 and 16 (or something similar) mondays to fridays. As far as I can see, the IP's are from the same area of Norway. So my question to you is; since this is probably the same person, could the IP currently editing also be blocked? Mentoz86 (talk) 09:24, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, I felt that I had to compliment him. I kinda want this guy on "my team", if he learns how to do things right. I checked out his edit counter(s), and since December 2008 he have done almost 18k edits, mostly to Norwegian clubs and players. If he learns how to do things right, he would be extremely useful, but this way is just disturbing for other editors that has to "clean up" after him. He will probably be back in six months or when he automatically get a new IP at home, and when he is back I will try to compliment him even more - maybe he'll learn :) Mentoz86 (talk) 15:22, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

Jamie O'Brien (footballer)

I see that you removed the link that I put on the page, that link shows the players career to date and is a reference to his career, to say that it adds very little is wrong as it is evidence of his career to date. MRPRO03 (talk) 17:18, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the link to the screen readers. It certainly comes across bad. Out Of interest although it's really irrelevant do you happen to know if there is any research on how many people use this software to view wiki. Would be Intrested. Edinburgh Wanderer 13:22, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

FYI, I made an edit based on your comments at Template talk:Football squad player2#Cosmetic change. I believe my edit to be non-controversial for the reasons I gave there, but because it's not precisely what you suggested, I thought I'd let you know for transparency.
