Speedy deletion nomination of Pipeline Pilot
[edit]You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.
A tag has been placed on Pipeline Pilot, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an acceptable page. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item G11, as well as the guidelines on spam.
If you can indicate why the subject of this page is not blatant advertising, . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. You are welcome to edit the page to fix this problem, but please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. As well as removing promotional phrasing, it helps to add factual encyclopaedic information to the page, and add citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the page will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. ukexpat (talk) 15:09, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
(More) I saw your message at Talk:Pipeline Pilot - (actually from 82.132.247.143 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), but I assume that was you while logged out). You are welcome to try again; I recommend that if you do, you use the Article wizard and choose the option to create via "Articles for creation" so that the text will be reviewed before being added to the encyclopedia. Note also that the page was deleted as a copyright violation, since it contained text copied directly from http://www.scientific-computing.com/products/product_details.php?product_id=817 and http://accelrys.com/products/pipeline-pilot/ . To avoid copyright problems, please remember to use external pages only as a source of information and ideas; do not copy-and-paste. -- John of Reading (talk) 10:14, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
Hi John, Yes I was in the train on my phone when I saw the speed deletion email... didnt think to login. Now that I logged in, I signed with my correct name. To make things transparent, I work at Accelrys, but I agree, there was clearly a copyright violation, and the choice to delete was a good thing, as Wikipedia cannot contain copyrighted material. Good wake up call. Can I start the page again? Or the fact that I work for Accelrys makes it forbidden? I could start like the for the apple: Pipeline Pilot is a software :) And thanks for the link to article wizard and the advice on copyright problems. Stooof (talk) 12:15, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
- It's not forbidden, but it does mean that anything you write will be subject to extra scrutiny. Have a look through the FAQ page for businesses and organisations. At minimum, you should add to your user page something like "I work for Accelrys, the creator of Pipeline Pilot" so that everyone knows where you stand; and you should submit your proposed page via Articles for Creation. Reviewers will be looking for "reliable sources", independent of the company, to confirm that other people have already found it worthwhile to write about the product. The "find sources" link, above, may help with this - I see that several books and articles mention the product. -- John of Reading (talk) 14:31, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
- Hey, I saw your note on the talk page. What you could do is work on the article inyour userspace (that is, any page beginning with User:Stooof/... such as User:Stooof/Sandbox). That way you could take your time with it and get it to meet Wikipedia's standards for articles. Then you could move it back where it was when you're done. If you want to do that I can undelete the article and move it there for you to work on. Well, actually I would have to check with the admin who deleted the article and make sure that was cool with them first. But like John said, do please check out WP:COI and make sure you can do it neutrally. Peace, delldot ∇. 02:10, 22 December 2012 (UTC)
Thanks all for the ideas, this is really appreciated. No need to get the old content back, I realise now there was a copyright violation. I unified my en and fr profiles (even though I am not sure what it does) and updated them accordingly to your advices, mentioning the fact that I work at Accelrys. Extra scrutiny is good, it's fair.
