Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Stephenyiu. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Draft:Stephen Yiu, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template), including links or details of reliable sources that support your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Kaizenify (talk) 15:51, 25 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]{{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 15:53, 25 November 2024 (UTC)Unblock request
[edit]Stephenyiu (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
I was blocked on November 25, 2024, presumably in response to the deletion of Draft:Stephen Yiu about me at Articles for Creation, which occurred the same day. It probably didn't help that I made some promotional edits years ago, directly into article-space. I have since become more informed on Wikipedia's neutrality, citing, and conduct policies.
If unblocked, I promise to:
- Never edit article-space again
- Make a COI disclosure in more places, including the top of any AfC submission
- Make better, more neutral contributions to Articles for Creation
- Leave gracefully on my own if I am unable to make better contributions to AfC
I understand now that, even when submitting to draft space in AfC, I was wasting the time of volunteers by submitting sub-par promotional content. I think there are independent press articles that tell my life story from birth to current that meet Wikipedia's criteria to qualify for a page (see e.g. here), but I have done a poor job putting together neutral content and focusing on the best citations. If unblocked, I will do better, and if I am not successful at doing better, I will leave on my own rather than continue to burden volunteers. I'm requesting one more attempt to do it right.
Best regards. Stephenyiu (talk) 16:13, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
Decline reason:
You've edited without disclosing your conflict of interest/paid status(as I presume you earn a living with your company). You've only edited about your company, your partner in founding the company, and yourself.(the latter of which is problematic, if not forbidden) That seems to be all you are interested in editing, so there are no grounds to remove the block. We want you to edit in article space, so you can demonstrate your knowledge of relevant policies. 331dot (talk) 16:24, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
