Harlem
[edit]I just wanted to thank you for your good work on Harlem. The article needs expansion, and I'm glad someone of your credentials is interested in doing so.
I noticed that you added some text sourced to the Digital Harlem Blog, http://digitalharlemblog.wordpress.com/2009/04/17/harlem-undercover-the-maps/. Ordinarily, and there are some exceptions (which may well fit this blog, as I see it is written by an expert on the subject), blogs cannot be used as sources under the policy on verification, WP:V. See the subsection, WP:BLOGS. Might there be some alternative sources for the material sourced to the blog? ScottyBerg (talk) 12:31, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. The reason I'm using the blog as a source is that it includes material that isn't available elsewhere, particularly the maps, which can't be integrated into the article as they are copyrighted. I do think that this blog does fit the exemption, as it is written by an expert, who has published on this topic. Stephensyd (talk) 22:19, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
- You may be right. It's an excellent blog, and the maps are fascinating. I just wanted to alert you to the rule, as "wordpress" is something of a red flag around here and someone may try to remove it. One possible course of action is to cite the underlying article and include the blog under the "see also" section. Ordinarily links in "see also" are not used as references. That might be a better way of drawing attention to the blog. ScottyBerg (talk) 22:24, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
