YouTube notability
[edit]Hi! I wanted to give you some notes about the draft.
- When referring to Gallagher, make sure that you use his last name instead of his first name. Using the first name is seen as too informal. Also, replace the word "prides" in the article when referring to Palladium Boots, as this is seen as kind of a marketing buzz term. An alternate way to phrase this would be "The company has stated that they see "modern day explorers" as their target demographic and that they use modern fabrics and materials for their products." This gets the same gist across but a little more neutrally.
- One of my concerns is with the article's sourcing. The Palladium Boots source would be primary, since it is the website of a company that is affiliated with Gallagher. Famous Birthdays would not be seen as a reliable source on here as they accept user submitted content, which they don't verify. It could be correct, but even with that it still shouldn't be used as a source. Finally, be careful with the Sun. It's seen as a tabloid on Wikipedia, so it's not seen as the best reliable source on here. Something like this from the BBC is better. However this brings up a related issue:
- Be very cautious with YT personalities. Most of them, regardless of their subscriber and view counts, do not pass notability guidelines on Wikipedia. It's incredibly frustrating, as it's not an easy feat to get that many subscribers, but it's definitely difficult to find enough coverage to really show that they're notable per Wikipedia's guidelines. Some of them only get local coverage or coverage for a single event. With Gallagher I'm concerned that he may have only really received coverage for the parkour stunt he did for Superdry. This would be seen as one event, so what you'd need to show would be a depth of coverage over a longer period of time (ie, articles that go into depth and span a year or more's worth of coverage for multiple events) as opposed to a short burst of coverage over a smaller point in time for one thing.
The article as a whole looks good, but I wanted to make sure that you are aware that it's pretty hard to justify articles for YT people on Wikipedia. Shucks, even PewDiePie (like him or hate him) didn't have an article on here until a few years ago, after he'd already become the most subscribed channel. We also had trouble justifying one on Dan from GameGrumps as well. This doesn't mean that Gallagher isn't notable, just that sometimes there's a little pushback.
