You have made several recent interesting edits to the Dick Van Dyke article. Whenever you make an edit, would you please include a summary of what you edited and why you did it in the Edit summary box. That is in accordance with Wikipedia policy (see Wikipedia:How to edit a page) and avoids misunderstanding. For example, I am curious why you removed the text (twice) in the Film Career section about his cockney accent in Mary Poppins. The text has a verifiable source, which I checked myself. Yes, the reference is mainly about Sean Connery but it does refer to Dick Van Dyke being number two, which supports the text in the article. I do my best to avoid edit wars and prefer to discuss things. So an explanation would be most appreciated. Thanks. Truthanado (talk) 16:52, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- I too am a fan of Dick Van Dyke and I have enjoyed his performance in Mary Poppins since I first saw it as a youngster. Having said that, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia based on facts (see Wikipedia:Five pillars). I figured that your removal of the cockney text was a good faith edit and I hesitated to restore it. When I checked the reference though, it was valid, and it just is not right to remove properly referenced material. FYI, I have the 40th Anniversary DVD of Mary Poppins, and Dick and Julie Andrews joke about the cockney accent in their discussions about the film, so I don't think it bothers them. It certainly hasn't hampered Dick's ability to become one of the foremost comedic (and serious) actors of our time. Therefore, I am restoring the deleted text. Thanks and good luck.
