MY TEACHER SAID THAT I SHOULDN'T USE WIKIPEDIA TO DO SCHOOL PROJECTS BECAUSE ANY FOOL CAN WRITE SOMETHING ON HERE & THE INFO MIGHT NOT BE CORRECT. HOW WELL DO YOU GUYS MODERATE THIS?

We moniter it VERY well, not much at all gets by us. I would trust wikipedia 100%, one thing you can do is to read the tags at the top of articles (if they have one), if it says that an article does not have references then you may be wary, or if it says that the article may be a hoax. You have now made this change twice - once after the message above. The Australian article, like thousands on Wikipedia, legitimately uses Australian English. Please respect this. It appears you are a new editor. Maybe not vandalism, but it seems you are ignorant of non-American English. Please familiarise yourself with this before you make any more incorrect "corrections" to an article written in Australian English which is almost identical to UK spelling. Ie, theatre not theater, organise not organize. There's another whole world outside the US, hard to believe for some, but true i promise. kind regards Merbabu 15:43, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading Image:Nicky-jam.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

Thanks for uploading Image:Nicky-jam.JPG. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then you need to specify who owns the copyright, please. If you got it from a website, then a link to the website where it was taken from with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Translation question

{{helpme}} Who translates the articles into other languages? Does Wikipedia use an automatic translator (like Google Language Tools or freetranslation.com) or do proffesional translators actually make sure that it is a gramatically correct translation?

Actually, if your referring to the other language versions of wikipedia, each different language is a special project of its own. That is to say, the spanish version of wikipedia is written by native spanish speakers or persons who speak spanish. If you look at an article (say Tree for example) and look in the left hand column under "languages" you will find links to other versions of the article in different languages. You will notice that the italian version of this article is very different from, say, the hebrew version.

Speedy deletion of Nicole McCormick

Thanks for the removal of vandalism on Gatsby! For future reference, what you can do to remove vandalism like that, instead of just deleting it, you can go into the "History" tab at the top of the screen, and find the last version of the article that had no vandalism. Click on the time and date for that version, and you can open that version. When you do, click on "Edit this page" at the top, and just save it -- leaving an edit summary along the lines of "reverting vandalism".
