from draft to article

[edit]

can someone tell me how to move a draft to the next step to prepare to send to review as an article?

Please help me with...

Spacestar7 (talk) 23:19, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

See Help:Referencing_for_beginners#Same_reference_used_more_than_once, you have listed several sources but some of them are simply repeated. Use the link I've listed now, and then afterwards, list any additional amount of in-depth third-party news sources overall. No press releases or trivial passing mentions. Hello, I'm Jim1138. I noticed that in this edit to Scott Nute, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Jim1138 (talk) 01:05, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries

[edit]

Please use wp:edit summaries especially when removing citations and cited text. For major edits, I would recommend doing them piecemeal. Add an edit summary to each. You can also add your reasoning on the talk page, such as talk:Scott Nute and add an edit summary of "see talk Section Name". I would recommend adding the talk before making the edit. Otherwise someone might look and not see anything. You can always go back and add to the talk.

Here is a good page on references: help:referencing for beginners. Also, try to keep talk on one page. You can wp:ping someone: {{ping|Jim1138}} yadda yadda yadda ~~~~ You need to save both the ping and signature at the same time. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 01:27, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This is confusing....a guy earlier suggested my article needed to be cut down alot...especially the use of the subjects bio for references. So, that is what I was doing...trying to clean it up and remove so many references to the bio. So, it sounds like you are saying to make little edits at a time, and then put share changes in edit summary? Is this correct? Spacestar7 (talk) 01:40, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Jim1138:Spacestar7 (talk) 16:35, 8 August 2016 (UTC) Jim1138, I hope I did this "ping" right...first time doing that. I reviewed the references/citing info and I am still not sure about something. Can you help me understand better about citing from a biography. If you notice in my article I cited the subjects bio many times because that is what I thought I was supposed to do, cite every time after I referred to info in the bio. Was that not necessary every time? Can you please give me advice on if I “over-cited” from the bio, and any other tips? Thanks[reply]

I got your ping. Please understand, I do wp:recent changes patrol (WP:RCP) and go through hundreds of edits in short order. I only spent seconds reviewing your edit before reverting as I did not understand why you made the removal. There are quite a few others who do RCP as well. There is really no hard policy on what constitutes a "proper" amount of referencing, so you will likely get conflicting suggestions. I am not sure that your removal of those references was a good idea (or not...).
I see the article was tagged with a COI. Have you read wp:COI and wp:Autobiography? Your use of wp:Teahouse is probably a good idea.
Please indent your talk - WP:THREAD -other info if you are curious: wp:talk page guidelines and wp:user pages Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 18:30, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

God's Paper Boy source

[edit]

Hello Spacestar7,

The book called God's Paper Boy by Nita DeBorde is cited over 35 times in this article. This book is not listed by Google Books. It is sold through Amazon.com, and is listed there as published by "CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform". That is a self-publishing service owned and operated by Amazon, which lacks professional editorial control. I have found no independent reviews of this book in reliable sources.

DeBorde's previous fictional book Project Lachesis is also self-published by "CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform". I see no evidence that she is an author with an established reputation for writing biographies.

The newsletter of the Scott Nute Global Ministries says "In August, we published our first book, the biography of my life and ministry—God’s Paperboy. If you would like to purchase copies that can be given as Christmas presents, they can be found on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle e-book." This confirms without a doubt that the source is not independent.

According to WP:RS, "Anyone can create a personal web page or publish their own book and claim to be an expert in a certain field. For that reason, self-published media are largely not acceptable. Self-published books and newsletters, personal pages on social networking sites, tweets, and posts on Internet forums are all examples of self-published media." Accordingly, this source is neither independent nor reliable, and is therefore not acceptable for use on Wikipedia. This and similar self-published sources, and all contentious material cited to those sources, must be removed from the article.

Please use edit summaries to explain your edits. If you do not remove this material from the article promptly, then I will do so, and I expect that there will be very little of substance left. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 05:47, 9 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the info. I did not know the bio author Deborde was not a reliable source. After the suggestions, info, and changes, I will understand if you all delete my article. A couple corrections about the subjects baseball info: Nute actually pitched in 11 minor league games, out of which as a relief pitcher he had one win and one save; this is verified on the included cites to the baseball stats for the Niagara Falls Rapids team. Also, Nute was not at the lowest minor league level, but the second level called Low Single-A, the lowest level is called Rookie level. This is verified on the Wiki minor league system page highlighted in the article. Spacestar7 (talk) 14:04, 9 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
