Problematic signature
Hi Spaceman, you have something to work with. The user Sit.Usha uses a signature (സിറ്റുഷിന്റെ അമ്മയെ ഊക്കിയ) which is meant to abuse user Sitush. Salih (talk) 06:24, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, I just saw the name and was going to block based on that, but the signature nails it. —SpacemanSpiff 07:08, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
Profile Saurabh Kumar Shahi
Dear
How do you decide which biographies are important, and which are not? How much are you aware of the emerging political discourse in India? Saurabh Kr Shahi is an extremely relevant emerging journalist and thinker.
Just to illustrate my point, Mr Shahi is ONLY the 2nd Indian to be conferred with Honorary Lifetime Invitee by Shanghai Corporation Organization at Centre for Political Studies. Only 38 scholars from all over the world have been awarded with this. 2 in India including him. Another is Ambassador Bhadrakumara.
I am shocked at how undemocratic a seemingly oh-so-democratic encyclopedia can be.
-- Arkesh Ajay — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arkesh.ajay (talk • contribs) 18:31, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not democratic, it's an encyclopaedia that anyone can edit, but we have policies and guidelines that cover what content is allowed. The article as it stood did not assert any importance beyond that of a journalist. Please read through our notability guidelines and provide content that is verifiable through reliable source references. I can place the article in your user space if you wish, and you can then add the references and show that he conforms to Wikipedia's standards of notability prior to moving it to mainspace. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 19:39, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

Tamil Arts Academy
I have worried quite a lot about the prevalence of the supposed journal of the Tamil Arts Academy in articles that Pondheepankar & socks have been involved. It seems to be the work of one person who, although an academic, makes some very strange (to me) statements and wraps an awful lot up as fact which is from my perspective merely interpretation of ancient texts etc.
Is it reliable? Is it actually the work of Pondheepankar? - Sitush (talk) 15:50, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
- It may be reliable on some points, but I wouldn't call it a reliable source as what I've seen are primary source opinions. Pondhee could be a student of this person -- he has his own blog that he spams here (and gets some meatpuppets to do the same). Sodabottle would know better as Tamil Nadu history is apparently one of his areas of expertise. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 16:10, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
- Nagasamy is a former director of Archaeological Survey of India. He self publishes a books/articles with his own theories post retirement and has a lot of followers (like pondheepankar) from the RSS / hindutva side of the political spectrum. His site is only good as a source for statements like "nagasamy claims such and such" not as facts.--Sodabottle (talk) 16:17, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

Hey Spiff. This user has a coi on Bradley McIntosh (see here) and has added his personal info here. Could you please rev del that? — Abhishek Talk 19:43, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
- This is not in my area of interest/functioning, so I won't look at the article. As for rev del, I mostly perform only copyvio deletions and I'm not up to speed on contact info suppression in these circumstances, so you'll have to contact someone who's more familiar with these. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 19:55, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
Template protection
Any chance of semi-pp on Template:Caste Groups of India (Kongu Vellalar) for a week? I am getting fed up of fixing errors only to see IPs coming back. I have tried explaining in edit summaries and on the talk page. Wouldn't mind so much if it was just warring re: the content but they're also affecting the format, eg: the last one completely screwed up the Refs section. - Sitush (talk) 08:51, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. - Sitush (talk) 11:11, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

Another possible sock
Not to be getting all paranoid, but the same day (12 July) as we block a bunch of other socks, in comes in a brand-new reg, User:TomPaul67 who makes one edit on a non-India page, and then dives right into Talk:Kurmi. Some suspect to that his immediate priority is to assert that he's read a lot of books about India, and questions how we could possibly doubt the Tyagi source (completely discredited and apparently largely an uncredited rip-off of WP circa 2007). It looks like yet another sock, possibly with the intent of either getting Sitush and myself to waste time endlessly repeating what we've typed a hundred times already, or of just casting doubt upon our decisions by claiming expertise to support this terrible "reference". Note too that a popular argument on Tallk:Kurmi has been "look at all the people who've shown up to complain", so I suspect there's some socking or puppeting of some form or another going on. MatthewVanitas (talk) 03:57, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
- If that's the case then you'll need to open a WP:SPI. A record of sorts would be ideal in these cases. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 06:56, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi. :) I've rolled this article all the way back to November 2009, before the introduction of copyvios by a known offender. I ran the remains through Earwig's tool and only found Wikipedia mirrors and sources that clearly copied us. But I haven't checked the article against its references (don't have time! I'm leaving town in 45 minutes). If you see any additional problems, please slap the tag back on it? --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:11, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
- Looks ok to me so far, I'll relook later because part of the problem with this CCI was that it included non-searchable content from the sources (Google doesn't seem to throw it up but following the links to the sources shows the copyvio), but I think Bigtimepeace cleaned up most of it in his Nov 2009 revision. Thanks for taking care of this. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 17:26, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

I just wish to say that, if you haven't already noticed, I've removed one of your userboxes, but mainly because it was non-existant. I was sure you'd be okay that I did that, since there is no use in having a red-link where a userbox is meant to be. LikeLakers2 (talk) 18:40, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

Temple categories
Hello - I see that you are shuffling membership in some of the categories related to temples and places of worship in India. The categories do need some cleanup but it's not clear what your plan is.
Please leave a {{talkback}} when replying. Thank you. --Marc Kupper|talk 19:47, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
- I'm guessing that you saw the change on the Padmanabhaswamy temple. The Hindu temples in Kerala cat was close to 200 with quite a few non temples in there too. I'm just splitting it to the districts within Kerala (kind of like Category:Hindu temples in Karnataka) so that it follows the hierarchy of our regional categories when there are enough articles. This is just an offshoot of a discussion at WT:INB. BTW, I plan to send Category:Temples in Thiruvananthapuram district for a speedy rename to Category:Hindu temples in Thiruvananthapuram district as per the standard naming structure of the tree. Now given that these regional cats are going to be in the parent of Category:Hindu temples in Kerala and the district cats of either Category:Places of worship in xyz district (if they exist) or Category:Xyz district, I'm removing those two simultaneously to avoid the overcat problem. Does this explain it? cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 19:53, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for the reply. I had not seen the WT:INB discussion. I saw the change on Padmanabhaswamy Temple and was puzzled as it did not seem like an WP:OVERCAT though I did see that the existing category layout was messy, both in the naming, and the membership. Moving the temples to a separate category per district makes sense.
- Good luck with Kerala. Category:Hindu temples in Karnataka was fairly clean with only three temples that were not in districts. I fixed those. Kerala will need bit of time to break up.
- While doing the Karnataka cleanup I saw that we have Category:Hindu temples in Uttar Kanada district while the article for the district spells it Uttara Kannada district. Are you familiar enough with the names and language to know if the category name should be fixed? I'm assuming that "Uttara Kannada" is a consensus determined name. List of districts of Karnataka also uses "Uttara Kannada." --Marc Kupper|talk 23:58, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
- That's a typo, I'll nom it for a speedy rename. The category tree seems a bit confused in many of these cases, we have categories for Thrissur and Thrissur district places of worship that are almost identical. I'm not sure the former is necessary and so on, but I'll leave that for a later date. —SpacemanSpiff 06:48, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

- I've left a note after yours. I might not be able to get to this for a few days as I have limited time on-wiki but I'll leave a note for another user who did some clean-up on similar moves before. —SpacemanSpiff 13:58, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
FYI
I've reopened the AN/I thread here. The original complaint section I have left closed, as with the section later created that I closed quickly. There is now a third section for current discussion. CycloneGU (talk) 15:17, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
My moves

Rev Deletion
Hi can you delete this version. --Commander (Ping Me) 11:40, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker)Happened to see this, I revdel'ed it. Though, it would help if you checked--that's the first time I deleted an edit, so I'm not 100% certain I got it right. Qwyrxian (talk) 13:52, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
- I didn't notice that SpacemanSpiff is off-wiki. Anyway thanks a lot. --Commander (Ping Me) 12:03, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
