[edit]Hi Sooty655! Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. |
The reason the citations need improving is because they need to be verifiable. I tried Googling "Cottesmore Operations Record Books TNA AIR28 series" or "Waddington Operations Record Books TNA AIR28 series", but no pages containing anything resembling those names showed up, and even after a search of the very few somewhat related results, the information was not locatable. This makes any reader entirely unable to verify what they are and where they came from. Normally, citations on Wikipedia do not consist entirely of a single, short line of plain words like those; they are generated using the Cite button and contain metadata, such as dates, links, ISBN numbers, etc. This is needed here. Also, you removed perfectly appropriate "Citations needed" tags. Content must be sourced on Wikipedia. Finally, you haven't yet, but remember not to go past the three-revert rule. · • SUM1 • · (talk) 20:25, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
As you will have seen, I have sorted out the TNA AIR 28 references so that the links now go directly to the results of the relevant search. The G-INFO search doesn't lend itself to the same approach, so I have put the necessary search term in a superscript note like a page number. Not ideal, but I couldn't find a better way. I'm not sure the TNA references should have The National Archive as the "publisher". They are the holder, who make the records available, but the originator, who decides when they are released to the public, is the Ministry of Defence. I don't know where the term "publisher" would fit in this arrangement. I'm not convinced that reference 2 is appropriate. The book appears to be simply a collection of lists, facts and pictures collected from a wide range of first- and second- hand sources, and it certainly contains inaccuracies. I am looking for the details of a more authoritative source, and will substitute it when found. Sooty655 (talk) 09:19, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
