License tagging for File:Chief Thundercloud as Chief Whitecloud in Renegade Girl.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Chief Thundercloud as Chief Whitecloud in Renegade Girl.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.
To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 20:05, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
Public domain films
[edit]Hi SogeKingBruce. I've added the {{PD-US-not renewed}} template to the image you've uploaded, as the copyright on the film has expired. Because Wikipedia gets a lot of uploaded images and copyright is laborious to determine, bots are used to tag images that don't have a particular copyright tag. For films like Renegade Girl, this can be frustrating as there's almost no way you'd know beforehand that we had a tag for copyrighted works made prior to 1964 which haven't been renewed. ;) However, the change I made should mean that the image will not be deleted and if you want to upload other images from the same work you may use the same tag.
Remember also that while this film did not have its copyright renewed, other films made between 1923 and 1964 may have and finding out definitively that copyright was not renewed is difficult, so be careful when uploading images where you aren't certain of the copyright status. I'm not saying you got this one wrong (on the contrary, the film is in the public domain), but it's a hard problem and even experienced editors get it wrong.
