Can you cite a reliable source that says white privilege is a conspiracy theory? — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 01:13, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm obviously not as well-versed in the theory or the article as you are, but can you cite any reliable sources that support the assertion that this even exists? Opinion pieces in the Harvard Law Review or JSTOR don't count. Neither does demographic data, because statitics only explain the way things are, and not their causes.

This article should be renamed "American Academic Theory of White Privilidge". It's the product of late 20th/early 21st century American academic culture and should be expounded as such. It's a non-falsifiable political doctrine. I'm sure you would delete an article entitled "IQ Privilige" if I were to explain the same demographic data by citing opinion pieces by racists.

The reason I put Conspiracy theory in the See Also section is because the topic has as much relevance to the article as the other as the other topics do. The theory (I'll be generous in calling it that) has as much in common with Conspiricism as it does with any of the other articles, namely:

Conspiracism is a particular narrative form of scapegoating that frames demonized enemies as part of a vast insidious plot against the common good, while it valorizes the scapegoater as a hero for sounding the alarm.

Sounds like what passes for a lot of what's called scholarship these days.

In its first sentence, the article identifies white privilege as a construct in critical race theory, i.e., a theoretical construct. Furthermore, the article cites dozens of scholarly articles (not "opinion pieces") about white privilege.
If you can cite a reliable source that says white privilege is a conspiracy theory, that viewpoint probably should be mentioned in the article. Without such a source, however, linking it is considered original research, which is contrary to Wikipedia policy. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 22:28, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
